2024-25 NBA Thread: “the sun will still come up tomorrow”, Bucks fan says in city that hasn’t seen the sun since September (17 Viewers)

Mavs have just 8 players available for tonight - the minimum allowed for a game.

Spencer Dinwiddie
Max Christie
Klay Thompson
Naji Marshall
Dwight Powell
Kessler Edwards
Olivier Maxence-Prosper
Brandon Williams

If you’re wondering why they can’t add more players right now, it’s because of their stupid trade of Grimes (who is killing it for Sixers so far) for Caleb Martin, which put them right up against the hard cap so they have no room right now to add anyone.

Graphic they just showed on the Lakers telecast:

Seasons - NOP 23, LeBron 22
Reg Season wins - NOP 848, LeBron 1.000
Playoff wins - NOP 22, LeBron 183

Crazy
The three LeBron stats that got me were:

1) The difference between LeBron & Steph Curry’s total minutes (regular season + playoffs) is greater than the difference between Curry & Anthony Edward’s total minutes. Curry is 36 & Ant is 23

Total minutes:
LeBron 70,401
Curry 39,913
Ant 13,656

2) LeBron has scored more points (regular season + playoffs) than Magic Johnson & Larry Bird COMBINED

LeBron 50,033
Bird 25,688
Magic 21,408

3) LeBron is the youngest player to ever scored 50,000 points :giggle:
Going to need to see a source on #3 here

Kyrie with a torn ACL. Oof.

This gives Nico an out on the season. There was never a good basketball reason for the trade, nor was there any indication he negotiated the best deal available once the decision was made, but there was a plausible way forward for the season if not for the injuries.
Did this trade make them better for this season? No. But did it make them younger? No. But did it make them better for future seasons? Also no. But now they aren’t as injury prone? [puts hand on shoulder]

Which is the PERFECT time to do this:

DALLAS (AP) — The Dallas Mavericks revealed on Monday that they are raising season ticket prices for next season, just weeks after dealing star Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Mavericks said season tickets will go up by an average of 8.61% next season and the increase is due to “ongoing investments in the team and fan engagement.”
"Pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered."

Lakers are 16-3 in their last 19 with their 3 losses against Philly, Charlotte, and Utah. So you know what’ll happen against NO tonight.
LeBron scores the 50,000 point of his career
Such a show off, should score a more modest amount of points. LeBrag

I heard that they have something like $41k below their hard cap. A 10 day for a rookie (just over $60k) is more than they have available. That is amazing.

Just to give a feel for how ridiculous a game Pritchard had

========

Only one NBA player all-time has had, over the course of his entire career

a 40-pt game w/ 10+ 3PM
a 40-pt game w/ 0 TO
a 40-pt game on 70% shooting
a 40-pt game off bench
a 40-pt/10-reb/5-ast game

That one player is Payton Pritchard. He did all of it today

If I'm understanding what you wrote right, he's the first player to do all of those things in one game? Because then of course he did it all today haha.

Yeah, but how many charges did Toumani Camara take for Portland?

The key is that he is the first player to do all of those things across an entire playing career. No other player has been able to do those exact stats across an entire career (one at a time).

He just happened to do them all in one game as well, which is what makes it so insane.

Well, we grow them different out here in Oregon, folks. Oh, we don't put a LOT of guys in the NBA, but when we do, we put out greatness. Peyton Pritchard, Danny Ainge, Damon Stawdelmeyer (sp?), Dwayne Eubanks, just to name a few......

I'm guessing that lineup is probably upper-mid-pack in the born-in-this-state team rankings. You also get Sabonis, AC Green, and Terrell Brandon which makes a surprisingly decent lineup.

I may or may not have spent too long looking here. :bag:

someone (from here??) called in to the Dan Patrick show this morning with a sizzling Camara take

didn't sound like GM but he could have been masking his voice

Gotta feel a little for Klay taking his talents to Dallas to team up with these losers.

Celtics injury report on a second night of a back-to-back (facing PHI):

Out: Brown, Jrue, KP, Horford
Questionable: Tatum (who missed last night's game) and Hauser (who rolled his ankle against POR)

No Maxey or PG for Philly too - gonna be a great nationally televised game

I'm on board if it means another 40+ points for White and Pritchard. Last night's game was fun to watch.

Plus, they get to rest everyone up for the big matchup against the Lakers this weekend.

I am not a huge Tatum fan. But just heard on the broadcast that he has 4 consecutive years of 26 pts, 8 rebs, 4 assts. Only been done by Oscar, Giannis, and Kareem. That's good company

I have never seen a fan base hate a player that has brought them a title, won so much and been so good for so many years so much. It baffles me.
No hate here - just not the love that he probably deserves

The refs were as bad tonight in the Nets-Warriors game as any I’ve seen this year. Multi-directional. Just awful. Whoever those guys were, they don’t have any business wearing stripes at the NBA level.

Not just you, Celtic fans in general. Since Tatum was drafted they have been a contender almost every year.

I am ready for the Pistons to put up a statue for Cade because they are going to win a singular playoff game for the first time in 15 years.

He has his faults but I see him as someone who seems to improve in one way or another every year. And, unlike so many other superstars, he almost never misses a game.

Great game right now in LA.
One of the better games of the season imo. Shame that Brunson got hurt. My guess is a bad high ankle sprain based on how it looked on replay—but hopefully I’m wrong and it’s not that serious.

Great game but definitely a shame Brunson couldn't finish it out. Knicks looked lost without him. Despite all the talented players on that roster he's pretty much a one man gang down the stretch. For their sake, I hope he's not out long.

This seems incorrect since Luka already has 5 in a row:

2019/2020: 28.8/9.4/8.8
2020/2021: 27.7/8.0/8.6
2021/2022: 28.4/9.1/8.7
2022/2023: 32.4/8.6/8.0
2023/2024: 33.9/9.2/9.8
(2024/2025: 26.8/8.3/7.9)

I’m kind of shocked that LBJ is not on that list!
He did it for 3 straight seasons, but missed the 4th. It was split between his last 2 years in Cleveland and his first in LA. The year that broke the streak was the bubble year and he led the league with 10.2 apg, but was at 25.3 ppg and 7.8 rpg.

LeBron has gone 25-6-6 for 20 straight years. He didn't hit those marks his rookie year and now this season his scoring is currently at 24.9 or else it would be his 21st in a row, which he can obviously get up there.

That's ridiculous.

He seems like a bit of a dandy and he's not caucasian so those are two strikes against him in Boston

It was almost cherry picked to exclude Lebron.
Yea I mean I do hate a lot of these cherry picked stats, and the broadcast apparently even got it wrong cause it should have included Doncic. But I think this one was made to include Tatum more than exclude anyone in particular. Tatum just barely eked out the 8 rebounds a few years ago
