First half observations:

1. When your best guy on the court is at best a 3rd best guy on a good team...it's gonna be a bad time. Even if you have like 3-4 guys who could be a 3rd best guy.

2. Evan Mobley is very good

3. Apparently Dean Wade is "radioactively white" with "a ridiculous farmers tan"

4. Garland is the engine of the Cavs, at least tonight. Passing is outstanding.

So you went! I read earlier today that Kyrie was also out and figured it would not be much of a game unless the Cavs were wore out from the roadtrip.

Jimmy Butler says he wants to get his “joy back” and doesn’t think he can do that in Miami. Shams says his preferences are Phoenix, Houston, Dallas, and GS.

Time to fire up the trade machines - do those even work any more with all the new CBA restrictions?

Phoenix couldn’t do it unless they give up one of the big three because they can’t aggregate.

It’s hard to get the matching salary from the others in any trade that feels worthwhile. Would Dallas give up Klay, PJ and Kleber? That would get them close. I guess that might be worth it on the floor but seems like Dallas generally likes their chemistry. Gsw would have to give up Wiggins (or Draymond I guess which seems unlikely)

I suppose Houston would be possible if they were to give up vanvleet or brooks, though they would have to give up two or three guys. The other problem is who really wants to give Jimmy several more years at 40ish million?

I would rather have PJ alone than Jimmy from a basketball standpoint at the same price, much less when you toss in the huge contract disparity. Especially surrounding Luka and Kyrie.

It's not an awful take, it's an informed one. Washington is better this year, and llikely to be better every year going forward.

The other one that seemed somewhat plausible is the Kings sending derozan, huerter and Lyles. Seems like the type of players the Heat might be interested in and the Kings could be ready to shake up the roster

We usually don't hear about players on the trade block or perhaps unhappy behind closed doors, just feels like Jimmy in a professional manner let them know
They opted to drag their feet because the Heat always feel like they have to get the upper hand which is partly why Lillard was not traded to the Heat
Lillard by all accounts wanted desperately to join the Heat and many players get what they want in the NBA, he didn't

-Feels like the Heat haven't been a playa for many free agents or aligning the stars to come thru Miami in quite a while now
Butler did his work twice getting them to the NBA Finals, mostly alone from my POV, they didn't go out and find a lot of additional help to push them over the top
They have hit on a few draft picks but nothing seems to be working for them right now, not in the way they are accustomed to

I tried Derozan, Huerter, and McLaughlin this morning which also works. The Kings can't afford to give up Lyles given the way the rest of their big rotation looks. But I still wouldn't do that if I'm Sacramento for a bunch of reasons, namely because he's not that big of an upgrade on Derozan and presents the same fit issues, Sacramento couldn't give him a big long term deal, that prospect of that $50 million option next year is scary, and I can't imagine he's going to be thrilled to go spend a bunch of time in a small market.

Dillingham (when healthy), Miller, Shannon, and Minott need to be getting run. Whatever their faults, it's not like the team is lighting the world on fire. You are going to not hurt the team by giving these guys some run to see what they can do.

Dillingham especially needs to be playing. He was the 8th pick, and the team gave up their last remaining draft capital to move up and take him because they needed a back-up PG, a PG of the future, and a second shot creator after Ant. With Conley showing his age some nights there is zero reason for him not to be playing. Zero. None. He's been fine in his extremely limited time and showed some positive flashes. It's just bonkers at this point.

The Wolves are not going to get a top seed this year. That much is obvious, so start mixing and matching and trying some things with the youngsters. Maybe things click at some point, but this **** ain't working.

I haven’t watched Dillingham’s NBA minutes but wouldn’t he get absolutely destroyed on defense at this point in his career? It’s just so hard for 20-year old rookies to have a positive net impact on a good NBA team. His lack of size makes him particularly vulnerable.

Sounds like you're talking about Reed Sheppard. I really hope they send him to G-League to get some reps. He's not doing any good just sitting on Udoka's bench.

OKC is a very legit contender.

Of course, they also tried to attack the paint multiple times in the last 5 minutes and kept getting stood up by hartenstein as the thunder wings collapsed and immediately started digging, leading to multiple stops.

Part of the loss was shooting variance, but part of it was also okc just being relentless on defense.
