2024-25 NBA Thread: Game 7!! (103 Viewers)

I was watching the game tonight and was thinking about the difference in approval rating between teammates like Dillon Brooks vs. Steven Adams and Steph Curry vs. Draymond Green. I realized our Wolves have a similar dynamic with Mike Conley vs. Rudy Gobert. I can't think of any bigger than Brooks and Adams though. Anyone else?
Jokic and Westbrook?
Chris Paul and Wemby?

(I think Steph and Green are the best choice)
I think it's Adams and Brooks. Steph has had too much success to not have a large amount of haters.
What are we even talking about, I thought you meant like teammates who like each other the most

I think it is two teammates on complete opposite sides. Curry is well respected, liked and considered a really good person. Draymond is the opposite.

Teammates with one being universally loved (Adams) and one universally hated (Brooks)
Ohh, I get it

Seems like a wolves-thunder WCF is pretty clear now. The Nuggets or clippers would be dangerous, but just don’t think they will have enough juice after this series. Wolves have some serious mojo right now and finch knows how to push the right buttons. Don’t think the warriors will be able to sustain a full series against the more experienced wolves (as opposed to the rockets). I guess we can’t count out the rockets just yet, but I don’t see them being able to beat a more experienced but younger team (as opposed to the warriors).
Slow down.

Redick is already cracking, done deal

How many seasons does he last?

I was waiting for that one. Because I have a broken back (BORED) and sports are better than nothing. I guess I'm kind of critiquing the changes I see and I'm not liking any of them, really.

The ref camera is also an abomination. Takes way too long and those guys love all the attention. They should ditch that side-show.

The game has its moments, but yeah, I think the direction it's taken is not for the better.
Sorry about the broken back. But the choice isn't watch basketball or watch nothing
I change channels.

Like when you go to the car thread and we get to talk about your dope Volkswagen Gulf.

could not stay awake for the fourth quarter but man lakers losing with luka and labron 4 to 1 is surprising our wolves looked great take that to the bank brohans

Really thought the Lakers would have had a game like the Rockets had last night.

Can't wait for the Nico press conference to talk about defense and tell us how much better the Lakers were with AD.

Awesome series for the Wolves and not something I expected after such a choppy season. Just dominant. Also fun seeing this form from Randall. He's made the KAT trade look lopsided with his performance in the playoffs. Total team effort

James can still do it on offense most of the time will be 41 and is looking slower on D against the young teams as the games get more intense, Luca plays D like he is 41 already. Not a good combo for playoff success.

The NBA game I have been watching this playoffs if a far cry from the regular season games, it is almost fun to watch again. Tough D, physical basketball is back.

Who says no - Lakers trade Rui, Reaves, Vincent and a 1st for an injury riddled Anthony Davis from Dallas?

He can't do it offensively either, not playing those type of minutes. His fourth quarter stats in this series where pretty bad overall.

41 minutes per game is ****ing bonkers for a 40 year old dude. Basically right in line with his career average in the playoffs but way too much for a dude his age. He is averaging the 7th most mpg in the playoffs but is closer to #1 (Jamal Murray @ 41.8) than he is to #8 (Brunson @ 39.6).

I watched pretty much every minute of the series and I though Lebron played great on defense. Amazing what he's doing at 40.

Frankly, I thought the Lakers played well. Rui (sp?) was really good and Finney-Smith had moments. Reeves was streaky but noticeable, Lebron played very well, and Luka was fine. I know I'm a Wolves homer, but my takeaway from the series is that the Wolves are playing their best basketball and were just the better of two good teams.

That Luka trade is the worst in NBA history, I think we can all agree.

But man, Luka is such a can on defense. Just absolutely zero effort, and no desire to even make it appear as though he’s trying. Just half jogs around and plays matador with everyone. And with zero interior defensive presence, there’s just no way that Lakers roster can legitimately compete. That voided trade for Mark Williams badly hurt them in the short-term.

Great win and series for Minnesota. They couldn’t throw a beach ball in the ocean last night in regard to their three point shooting—but they found a way to win . I thought they were active defensively and as I’ve said before—I do think they are one of the more talented and deep teams in the NBA. They just need to play with more cohesiveness and I think they need to find a way to be productive inside when their three point shooting isn’t working. Gobert provided that to them last night—and I think that the Lakers incomplete roster played a big part in that dynamic. I think Minnesota matches up well against either the Rockets or the Warriors. If GS wins, I believe Minnesota would get the home court—and Minnesota would be more rested while a GS team where their star players are up there in age will be worn down from a tough Houston series.

On the Lakers side of things—as unpopular as this sounds—I think they have a lot to be happy and proud about. First of all, they landed a player that can carry the franchise for the future. Reeves is looking like a steal in regard to what they extended him to earlier. While the Luka trade was awesome for the franchise, I do believe that it did leave them with an incomplete roster to finish this year—and yet they played well enough to get the 3 seed in a tough western conference. I thought that JJ Redick did an admirable job being a rookie head coach in a hot seat (being the head coach of the Lakers comes with a lot of scrutiny) that even veteran coaches aer sometimes uncomfortable with. Acquiring a guy like Luka mid season— is not easy to do schematically. They went from having one of the best big men in the game to effectively being a team with a lack of big men—to a team that has three legit ball handlers/creators (in reeves, lebron and luka). I think that with more time together to develop chemistry, and time to tweak an incomplete roster—that they have a bright future.

Minor detail in the grand scheme, but Finch holding onto our challenge as McDaniels was getting called for absurd fouls with his hands behind his back and then using it on that clear out of bounds play was astonishing. Who is feeding him information?

Randle doesn’t look like remotely the same guy from the first half of the season; I don’t know if we just underestimate the time needed to blend in with a new team but he looks like a beast unleashed on both ends of the floor right now

Lebron's probably thinking what's the point now other than continuing to play on the same team with Bronny?
...unless the Lakers somehow miraculously (wink wink) wind up with Giannis. But they'd have to give up every semblance of depth they have to do that.

This is where I am. After they blew up the Mark Williams trade, most everyone thought they'd have trouble this year with no rim protection and that they'd need the summer to get it.

They already have minimal depth. The Lakers just have no good options that fit within LeBron's timeline.
Mark Williams was probably a pretty decent option. I get he’s hurt a lot but I still don’t get why they canned that one. Luka could’ve thrown him lobs all day.

LeBron takes the minimum to play with Bronny again...WA LA roughly 30 million in cap space for the team (doesn't get them Giannis though).

How long does it take the Lakers to drop Bronny when LBJ retires? LBJ might get some ownership percentage with some team that might extend Bronny’s career. If not, I expect Bronny to be out of the league very soon after his Dad departs.
