2024-25 NBA Thread: Mavs fans devastated but Cowboy fans excited to have Luka (13 Viewers)

Cleveland has won 15 games in a row.

For the second time this season.

Wow.
As a Celtics fan, I'm wondering if they will be able to actually beat the Cavs.

If they played a 7 game series starting tomorrow, my prediction would be Cavs in 6. Not seeing any holes in their team, similar to OKC.

Boston always has a shooter's chance but they just aren't as consistent, especially in the defensive end. KP has barely played and Holiday and White aren't as effective as last season. Pritchard is improved and Tatum took another small step forward, but Brown is also inconsistent this season.

Meanwhile the Cavs are steamrolling everyone, even when not at full strength.

I am here with the Cavs this season. They just seem to the magic this year. They kind of remind me of the Celtics that won the title in 08 or 09.

A lot questions coming into the year, but then just steam rolled through the regular season and then won a title. Although the playoffs weren't as easy.
As a lifelong pessimistic Cleveland fan…they will come back to earth. I expect the Celtics to handle them quite easily. I hope I’m wrong, but these are my true feelings! I love what the new coach, Kenny Atkinson has brought to the team though. He is a breath of fresh air!!!

You have an NBA title just a few years ago! Not many teams in the NBA can say that.

Talk to the fans of Twolves, Magic, Bobcat, Kings, Pelicans, etc etc about being pessimistic, disappointed and wishing they had a parade in their city while we could all legally drink.
Yeah, I was a Boston fan for like 7 whole years before they finally won a title. It was rough.

I don't know. The Cavs remind me of the 08 Celtics. A lot of questions going into the year. Cavs have a new coach and there were rumors that Mitchell wanted out (before he signed an extension) the Celtics just got Allen and Garnett and no one knew how they would gel. You had the Pistons who still had a very strong starting 5 and LeBron fresh off a finals run. The Cavs have to compete with a complete team like Celtics and a Knicks team that made a major shake up. That Celtics team dominated the regular season on the way to a title (although the playoffs were much tougher.)

I don't know a single GSW fan that would consider JK a 'role player'
That's cause they overrate him
True, still not a role player. Per game, he is 2nd in FGA, 3rd in scoring, 4th in MP, and 2nd in USG%
If he played on a true contender he would most assuredly be considered a role player

Any playoff team he is a role player. You have your all stars who the team runs off of Steph, Butler, and Green. Then you have your role players defensive guys, 3 and D guys, scorers, etc and then you have bench depth.

I think Kuminga could be more and work his way into that top tier on a good team, but he isn't there yet and not even really close. He needs a major breakout.

Ex-NBA player Oliver Miller has passed away.

Went to college same time as him and loved the player but did not like him personally at the time (always hit on my GF-and everyones' for that matter, lol) but hung out with him and Spud Webb in a Gentlemans club one afternoon and had a good time with him and will remember that guy.

But always loved the talent. Was rare to see that kind of passing ability on a big man before the Euro's came. Walton I know, just did not see a lot of it. If he'd have been able to control his weight he'd have been a superstar. RIP Big O.

Reverse jinx engaged

SGA flops on a rebound, gets a cheap foul on Brown. Tatum stands his ground against Hartenstein and gets nothing after being pushed away and gives up a bucket than gets a tech for arguing.

Lesson learned. Anytime someone puts their hands on you fall to the ground.

Jimmy with a triple double. Amazing how seamlessly he's transitioned there. He's doing so much dirty work that you just don't see guys his age doing. Warriors 12-2 with him.

Golden State also appear to be getting Kuminga back soon too.

This current stretch is yet another stain on Steph's legacy. What a disappointing player.
sometimes i... i... i love you

Wolves have third easiest schedule rest of the way. All aboard the train!
I think they have a sneaky good path to home court in the first round. I was looking at that yesterday morning.

My prediction is Denver #2, Memphis #3, Minnesota #4, Lakers #5, Rockets #6. Warriors and Clips make it out in the play-in.

Wolves looking great!
They are getting healthy and coming together at the right time. The good thing is that some of their young players got opportunity over the past several weeks—so that should be good for their confidence—as well as the confidence that Finch has in them. If they can stay fully healthy—they have the potential to be a problem in the West again.

Houston has a very favorable schedule as well and will soon be at full strength (Amen 🙏). I got #2 Denver #3 Houston #4 Memphis #5 Lakers #6 Minny. Warriors and Clips as well.

If the Wolves can finish #6 or better I'll be happy. Houston or Denver would be fun matchups. Don't want to play LA. I just haven't seen that much of Memphis to comment there.

i fully recognize that i am succumbing to hot takery but i have been trying to think of any point guard that has changed the game as much as steph curry has i think magic yes bringing size to the position and he is clearly one of the guys in the all time greats discussion but who else even comes close take that to the bank brochachos

Abdul Rauf could've been that dude in a different time :kicksrock:

Fun game last night in Portland as the Knicks hit a buzzer beater in OT to win the game. Strong showing by Scoot who really is starting to blossom. He's very far away from a finished product with much to learn, but but his athleticism and speed at which he can move with the ball are preternatural.

The core of this team is coming together nicely, just need experience, more draft picks and other teams to age out.

Scoot - PG - 21
Sharpe - SG - 21
Avdija - F - 24
Camara - F - 24
Clingan - C - 21

Future so bright.....gotta wear shades.

Really bad loss for the Pistons tonight, but in the grand scheme it is probably helpful. The Bucks and Pacers seem to have their number. I doubt they get out of the first round, but if they do I believe it is against the Knicks .

How's the rest of the Lakers schedule looking? Enough time for them to fall to the play-in?
They are so much better off staying in the 4/5 zone with Houston then OKC then dealing with Golden State in round 1 and then Jokic.
If I was the Lakers, I’d far rather play Denver in the first round versus Houston or OKC. The Lakers (especially in the playoffs) are not a fast team. Houston and OKC would swarm them on defense and they could throw lots of quick, young players on Lebron and Luka. The Lakers are also a team where guys like Luka and Lebron like to get to the basket. The Lakers would want to avoid teams that are young and quick that can run them off of the floor or teams that are elite in stopping people in the paint.
Denver is one of the worst teams in the league when it comes to how many points they give up in the paint per game. The only teams that are worse are Atlanta (who is virtually tied with them giving up 50.2 points per game in the paint), Dallas (who would be much better but they have been without their big men for many games), Washington, Indiana, New Orleans, and Chicago. As great as Jokic is (I think he’s the best player in the league), he’s a sieve defensively when it comes to being any sort of defensive presence in the paint. The teams allowing the fewest points in the paint per game are Oklahoma City (ranked number 1 at 42.7), and Golden Sttate (ranked number 2 at 45.5). Houston is league average at 15–but they are loaded with quick/young and athletic players. If I’m the Lakers, I’d want to play teams like Denver, Memphis or the Clippers

I'm going to have to take a huge L on my take on the Jimmy Butler trade. Ugh.
Yes, the Warriors have been doing well with Butler, but they've basically had 2 quality wins (NYK and DET) since he got there. They beat MIL without Giannis, DAL without multiple players, and HOU without Sengun. They lost to the aforementioned depleted Mavs and the 76ers without Embiid (allowing 44 points to Quentin Grimes). Most of their wins have been against middle of the road (or worse) opponents. I'm not prepared to say they are back just yet. We haven't seen them play against any of the top teams so far. Maybe they can keep it up.

Sengun had a double-double

My bad. It was the game against the Thunder that I'm thinking of.

All OKC games were pre-Butler

I meant the game Sengun missed recently was against the Thunder, not the Warriors.

Sorry, I don't mean to be picking nits. I'm just super-hyped about the Dubs resurgence. Hopefully, they can continue their good play with their upcoming schedule, which does look to be difficult.

I hope you right. The Warriors are my second team since the Pistons have been so bad for so long, but I am skeptical because of how many bad teams they have played in this 12 - 2 stretch.
