2024-25 NBA Thread: OKC - Memphis series moved to Quibi (43 Viewers)

Damn
The 2025-26 Boston Celtics payroll and luxury tax total is set to exceed $400 million once they fill out the roster.Tax rates are set to increase in deeper levels that season while the Celitcs are also set to enter the repeater tax.
How do they get out of that?

Trade someone?
Boston has committed something like $940 million to their current group of starters. Yes, they can always trade guys. KP would be the most likely candidate (or the guy they will chose not to bring back when his contract is up). With Porzingis having health issues and Al getting old
Getting?

Seems Orlando added $10 million to Isaac's 2024-25 salary with cap room, declined by maximum 40% to $16.44 million next year, and then had maximum 8% declines to land at $12.9 million by 2028-29. Total $85.3 million, of which $67.9 million is new money.

Pretty slick contract for the Magic. Clearly they believe in this core.

Two of our National Treasures, wikkid and Doris Burke, embraced the TimeLord nickname and used it regularly. It was a great nickname and anyone that thinks otherwise can fight me.

He doesn't even play. Nicknames should be reserved for players who play the game. He should be called Papier-mâché.

Pretty sure I had a thread title while Wikkid was here that said something like ‘Celtics fans embrace TimeLord nickname hoping he can take them back in time to when they relevant’ or something like that, that he laughed at.

Which snowflake reported that one?

The fragility of some in here is astonishing

Celtics sign Tillman to a 2 year minimum deal.

Crazy that they are bringing everyone back
Why wouldn't they? They had just had like a top-5 ever dominant season.
I get it, it's just shocking to me that none of their role players got better offers elsewhere. Drew effing Eubanks signed for 2 years 10 million yet Kornet and Tillman sign for the minimum
It’s that Celtic culture

So after the first wave, who are the best players available remaining at each position?
Lebron

I am surprised Slo-Mo is still available. He seems like a very good bench piece/5th starter for a contender.
He wants to stay in Minnesota so both sides are trying to figure out something that works. It was reported that they're pretty far apart though.
Anderson (slo-mo) signing with GS for 3/$27m. He’ll be signed and traded into the Klay trade exception.
poop

Well, he did choose the #9. When asked why Bronny said, "Juice [WRLD] has just been a big part of me keeping calm in situations that I've been through. Just paying homage to him, especially because he passed. It's a really important thing for me."

Come on bro. We all know it's because Jordan wore #9 in the Olympics.

Also, glad LeBron isn't wearing #6 anymore. With Bronny wearing #9, that would no longer be ...nice.

Yea, I have no clue. I know they said they weren’t signing a 2-way deal. So does this mean he has to stay on the roster and no G-league option? If they have to keep him and with the lack of moves made so far, what are the lakers thinking??

It's a television show.

Is anybody (worth paying attention to) really outraged or is this yet another race baiting, media driven story?

Im a charter member of the Lebron James Hater-wagon but I'm not going to take that out on his kid. Is it nepotism? Maybe, but Bronny still has James DNA and thats worth a 2nd round draft pick on its own. This is no different than Jerry Rice's, Montana's son, or Emmitt Smiths cousin getting drafted due to the family pedigree. It's just got a little extra juice because Lebron thinks so highly of himself that he felt the unnecessary need to have his agent alert the league of his own pretentiousness.

I feel badly for the situation the young guy is in

It's A LOT of pressure. I admire the drive considering he could just be hitting the clubs with Dads money and nobody would bat an eye.

I believe it’s a one-way deal but I don’t know the machinations of sending him down there if they think he needs more work.

Yea but then Bronny says “I never really thought about playing with my dad” or something like that. It’s just all so contrived.

lol, I just saw this on Reddit. “Cue the fake reading glasses and page 1 of a book”

Ah well, it (sports) was a good run.

Anybody with less than 3 years experience can be assigned to the G League whenever.

Got it. But he’s getting paid nba money regardless.

Why? If it doesn’t work out he still played for the Lakers and heads to a private island and takes some IG models with him.

[Charania] LeBron James plans to sign a two-year, $104 million maximum deal to return to the Los Angeles Lakers

LeBron gets the ol' Double Tobias deal.

Just like LeBron's suggestion that he'd take less to let them sign another player in free agency. So much for that.

You're projecting

:sadbanana:🤪

Not sure what’s worse for Lakers - not getting any free agents to agree to sign with the team, or not getting any assistant coaches to agree to join the team.
George Karl apparently feels it's the assistant coaches. 😄

Maybe Tweet 3 in this series will be like the old commercial, with George Karl getting to the center of a Lakers Tootsie Roll Pop. link

So he thinks his legacy is set. Time to milk em for all you can get. Have fun LA!
I think he would have taken less if they were going to use that money on Klay or PG13 etc. I thought maybe to facilitate Derozan or Lavine, but maybe not necessary?

Well, now any player signing with the Lakers knows they were not worthy of a LeBron discount.

Lakers fans out there quoting Succession about their front office, "I love you, but you are not serious people."

Celtics B2B?
I don't see any player movement that is going to change the story arc heading into 2025.
What teams are light years better thru free agency thus far?
Denver is still as good as anyone in the West

And the Heat continue to do nothing, DeRozan now being linked

The Celtics should be the favorites, but who knows if they will repeat. The majority of us thought that the Nuggets were too good not to repeat and they lost in the second round. Weird things can happen. I would say there are 6 to 8 teams that can win it next year.

Injuries are always the x-factor but they are definitely the favorites and I do think that both Tatum and Brown will still have a chip on their shoulder despite winning a title so I really don't see complacency being an issue.

The East will be tougher just so long as everyone's best player doesn't get hurt.

The Knicks are a clear #2 right now. If Embiid and Giannis come into the playoffs healthy and the Pacers get a little better, there will be some good playoff series.

I don't think the Knicks are the clear #2. Lots of ambiguity after Boston.

And that would be the truth given the remaining free agents. I know we like to pile on the Lakers here, but there weren't any difference maker free agents that were going to take what the Lakers could pay them even if LeBron took a discount. They dodged a bullet with Klay deciding to go to Dallas - that would have been a really bad signing for the Lakers.

Right now I think they're focusing on trading Russel to clear space for DeRozan, or some other trade options.
