2024 Free Agency Discussion (1 Viewer)

Vikings with two good signings of LBs Van Ginkel and Cashman.

Blake Cashman and the Vikings have agreed to a three-year, $25.5 million contract.

Vikings agreed to terms with EDGE Andrew Van Ginkel, formerly of the Dolphins, on a two-year, $20 million contract.

Swift is a Bear

They are saying 3/24 with 15 guaranteed, we'll see about that, but that they went after him like they did is great for how they view him.

ETA-Garafalo now saying he'll get $16.5M over first two years of the deal, so an $8.25M two year deal is what it's most likey to look like. Solid.
That's gonna be in the running for worst deal of FA in my opinion.

Swift has proven he's a COP RB. Khalil Herbert is a better runner by a wide margin. Montgomery got less last year and is also a much better RB than Swift.

Swift was a downgrade from Miles Sanders for the Eagles last season.
This is an interesting take. I have always felt like Sanders was overrated, and Swift was underrated. As a Bears fan I'm not too thrilled that they are spending on RB, but I would MUCH rather have Swift than Miles Sanders at the same price.

ETA - I would, however, slightly prefer Pollard to Swift at the same price.
Yeah, ditto. Are we talking about the same Miles Sanders who lost his starting job to Chuba Hubbard???

DE Leonard Floyd to 49ers, 2 years, $20m with incentives to $24m.

And Minshew's contract is 2 years, $25m with $15m guaranteed.

The same Miles Sanders who averaged .5 more YPC than Swift did in Philly. Not arguing Sanders is good, arguing Swift also isn't.

With a different OC, that Philly offense was not the same functioning unit, not quite the apples to apples comp you are making it.

Not sure how I feel about Cashman, but Van Ginkel was a nice add for sure. Really loved the Greenard signing, he's a really good all around EDGE that feels like Flores type.

As long as they don't decide Darnold is their QB, this could be a solid day for them, as not chasing that Cousins contract probably was the right move. I feel like there is way too much assumption that a 36 year old will be 100% back to normal from a torn Achilles.

Wonder if Aaron Jones could be on their radar?

Luvu to the Commanders.

Also breaking news: Now I have too many Commanders. First Armstrong, then Luvu, and I already have St-Juste & Jamin Davis. Gah!

Giants trading for Brian Burns??
That would be a Giants move. Nowhere near contention, trading for a vastly overrated pass rusher who needs a new contract.
Yea and if true highlights difference of how us fans think teams are or should be thinking and how a lot of teams actually think.

Fans think Daboll and Schoen realize they are not ready to compete and are discussing ways to build the roster to be in position in the future. A rebuild.

Meanwhile Daboll and Schoen are discussing what moves can they make to try and field a competitive lineup and not get fired.

Yup...that is always the missing piece with this stuff...job security...it is really easy to say don't draft or pay for a QB this year (usually the best example with these type of moves) but when your job is on the line it's not as easy to do nothing as it does when you are a fan.

Za'Darius Smith staying in Cleveland for 2/23.5, which is a nice deal, and makes the 2/20 Leonard Floyd got from SF look like lunacy.

I know this is free agency, but figure a good place to share comments at Justin Fields.

Rapoport said earlier today that the Bears haven't really started talking about trades for Fields, that they are still focused on evaluating Caleb Williams and deciding what they want to do.

"Za'Darius Smith (31) had 5.5 sacks, 61 pressures last season, got $11.75M per year over 2 years.

Leonard Floyd (31) had 10.5 sacks, 45 pressures last season, got $10M per year over 2 years (up to $12M).

Fair value for Floyd and Smith. #49ers chose the familiar player."

Lunacy... :ponder:

5 years $150 million

Wow, so $30 MM per is now the going rate for elite DL. Not sure Burns is at the level of truly elite, so this number is remarkable to me. Maxx Crosby at $20 MM per over 5 years, signed two years ago looking like a massive bargain right now.

Floyd is a 1 dimensional pass rusher, who is a zero in the run game. He used to play the run well way back on the Bears, but he hasn't been that guy in years.

Smith is a complete player, who gets more pressures, and as many sacks typically. He's also a strip sack artist. I think there is a sizeable talent/ability gap between the 2.

Speaking of talent/ability gaps, Crosby should probably be holding out right now. Burns is like half the player Crosby is. Crosby is arguably the best EDGE in the NFL, he just goes unnoticed because Raiders.

Huge mistake out of NY for overpaying money wise, and maybe pick wise, and much huger mistake on Carolina for not getting a ton more than this last offseason.

Ekeler to Washington. All four teams in the NFC East have a new starting RB for 2024.

I would not be sure that Ekeler is a starting RB as opposed to becoming a like for like Gibson replacement
I own Robinson and Rodriguez in almost every FF league...I have no choice but to get an Ekler VooDoo Doll and put about 10000 pins in its knees, crotch, and eyes. :wall:

Easy now. Dude is 28 going on 60. Nature usually sorts these things out for you.

Possible WR for the Chiefs (or anyone)
•! Marquis Brown
• Ridley
• Mooney
• OBJ
• Boyd
• Samuel
• Chark
• Thomas

Dried up a little with Pittman, Evans, Higgins, Gabe Davis signings/tags

I could see Samuel going here, very good in space, he's quick, just seems like that would work well in that offense. Brown or Ridley would be nice splashes, but do they have cap money to sign either?

KJO might be a good fit as well.

Chiefs rarely jump in on the first day of madness.

My money is them going after Mooney or Samuel. Veach is a master at waiting out the free agents and ends up with guys that fit. That's the most important thing for the Chiefs and Andy Reid.

And I'm not worried about the cap. Jones cap number this year is only $7 million. They will have money to spend in the right places.

OBJ, a vet with good hands, would thrive!

The Giants are trying to get people to forget how bad the Daniel Jones contract was.
