I'm still alive but barely.

Doesn't help that I have to take 0s at kicker every week due to injuries and surprising cuts.
I'm sorry, but there are no such thing as surprising kicker cuts. All the kickers that got cut had warning signs.
So we’re saying, for next year, it might be better to NOT shop from the $3 bargain bin anymore, and instead put a few more bucks towards kickers?
No. Some cheapies have no warts and are quite safe. If you go back in this thread, I said my safest $3 kicker was Cairo Santos, and his only wart was limited distance. But I doubted he would lose his job because he is accurate. And his 20.2 points in week 4 saved alot of teams.

Not to jinx anything (although as soon as I say that...) I'm feeling like I and the other 19 remaining contestants who have both Puka and CMC are going into this week with significantly less stress than we otherwise might have...
Yeah great result for a TNF game

Yeah you warned me away from Gano. I went with Cairo Santos instead. Thanks good buddy.

Idea - what if we, as a Shark Pool collective, could come up with "expert teams" at each position? We may be able to build the prefect team for next year. I would gladly join the kicker squad, because I suck at everything else.

I have Santos on my already-eliminated team ;)

Guess kicker wasn’t my problem.

Lots of great posts in here but checking…. @apalmer are you still eliminated, just like me?
;)
Last time I checked, but I did get the Super Special Subscriber deal, so I'm waiting for my 2nd chance bonus to kick in.

My Mega Platinum Triple Chance Jackpot Subscription has me already picking my playoff contest team.
@Dacomish turned me on to this level of Subscription, so get on board too. I think there’s only one slot remaining.

Signed,
President of the Early Exit Society

OK, start with this mentality - 2 RBs for $13/each are better than 1 RB at $26. And so on .... You want protection from injuries, and byes, and your RB getting the flu on Sunday, or being game-planned into a single digit score, or being ejected during the game, or his team fighting from behind with the passing game, or ...... then better to have a next man up mentality.

But if you use this mentality, you can then say it's better to roster 4 RB's for $6.50 each, or 8 RB's for $3.25 each. Next thing you know, you have a roster of $1 scrubs.

There are obvious limits. I see teams going into battle with only 4 RBs. Won't last by a long shot. If we were allowed more than 30 players, for $85 spent on your running back group, I'd rather have 14 each of $6 RBs than just 4 RBs averaging $21. Ever heard about too many eggs in one basket? Same applies to the other groups (WR, TE, K, D).

Hate this part. Starting to think that leagues/contests should all just use TMPK. Maybe it's just me, but it feels like there are so many more injuries and mid-season kicker changes than in the past.

I will second the notion that has already been voiced, that there were not many surprise kicker cuts this season.

The main thing you need to look for in kickers, in addition to being on a team that can move the ball, is the job security of the kicker. In addition to kickers that are having to win their position in camp, which raises a red flag, it also means knowing stuff like whether a team can save substantial cap money by cutting an overpriced kicker. Gano was prime example of that this year. Even if he had not been injured it was widely known that the Giants could have saved over $3M in cap money by cutting him. I tend to also be leery of very old kickers, thinking they are more likely to suffer injuries than the younger guys. The only kicker I was surprised to see cut this year was Moody in Kansas City. I didn't see any indication that he may have been on thin ice, but he was quickly cut after a poor performance in week 1. Maybe the indications were there but I just didn't see them.

In past years I have routinely gone with $3 kickers, but I have usually felt good about their job security when I have. I think Santos is a safe $3 kicker, but he did not fit with my bye week strategy because I already had a kicker with the same bye week. This year I rostered one $3 kicker (Grupe) and two $4 kickers (Boswell and Loop), due to reservations I had with most of the $3 kickers. I feel pretty good about the job security of the kickers on my roster, but anything can happen with injuries. You have to hope your kicker does not get injured trying to make a tackle when the opposing team is returning a kickoff and he's the last chance to prevent a touchdown. That almost happened in one of the games I was watching this week.

Agreed that kicker job security is mostly pretty predictable.

In many years I've posted rankings of kickers by job security, and the kickers who lose their jobs are usually pretty concentrated in the bottom 5-10 riskiest players (e.g. 2022).

I haven't done the rankings as consistently in recent years, mainly because I've stopped doing mid-summer drafts involving kickers (e.g. Anarchy drafts have been just before the season starts) so it hasn't been as relevant for my own drafting. But I have at least checked on the kickers that I was considering taking (e.g., all the $3 kickers in this year's contest). I thought that Santos & Grupe were the only two pretty safe options among the $3 kickers, so I went with a $4 player as my 3rd kicker.

This year a few days before the contest closed I asked GPT-5 Thinking to make kicker job security rankings for 25 kickers and it came up with this ranking, starting with the highest risk: BAL, TEN, BUF, NYG, IND, ARI, NE, MIN, WAS, LAR, JAX, SF*, GB, ATL, KC*, TB, NO, DEN, PIT, LAC, HOU, SEA, CHI, CIN, LV. That's Gano NYG with the 4th highest risk - GPT's comment was "Kept the job and looked excellent in preseason from 50+ yards, but he’s 38 with recent knee/hamstring IR history". (I don't entirely agree with this list - I gave SF & KC asterisks here and avoided them in my Anarchy draft because I thought that Moody & Butker were riskier than GPT had them.)

3 main kinds of things to look for with kicker job security:
* Is he good? Much higher job security risk if he's not. Main thing to check is kicking accuracy rankings for the past few seasons, which various sites have.
* Any recent struggles? If he's coming off a down year, or had a recent injury, or missed a notable kick last year, or has off-field concerns, that can mean a shorter leash from his team in addition to a higher chance that he plays badly (or gets reinjured or suspended).
* How committed to him is his team? It's a good sign if they recently gave him guaranteed money. It's a bad sign if they recently put him through a competition for their kicking job, even if he won, because they could just bring in someone new. The things that the team has been saying about him are also relevant, as are other contract details (whether he still has guaranteed money left on his contract, how much the team would save by cutting him).

As you see above, only 3 of the top 20 RB's were priced under $17, and the 20th highest scoring RB scored only 179 points. There were 35 WR's to score at least 180 points, and 14 of them were $16 and under. My whole point for doing this is to show you can't win with bargain basement RB's, but you can with every other position. I'm not saying you should totally avoid the cheap RB's, but you simply can't survive with a bunch of RB's $13 and under. Just look at the current top 20 RB's after 4 weeks - 15 of them are $20 and over, 3 are $16-$18, and the 2 outliers are $13 (Javonte Williams at RB6) and $8 (Kenneth Gainwell at RB20). A grand total of 1 entry chose both Javonte Williams and Kenneth Gainwell.

The only kicker I was surprised to see cut this year was Moody in Kansas City. I didn't see any indication that he may have been on thin ice, but he was quickly cut after a poor performance in week 1. Maybe the indications were there but I just didn't see them.
The massive red flag was leading the league in missed FG's in 2024. His 10 misses were the most in the last 5 years. Then he went on to say he was going to change up his style to gain some accuracy at the expense of his distance. Bull! He had no distance to lose. His long last year was only 53. The only reason he kept his job all last year was because SF drafted him in the 3rd round, like morons. They finally had to admit he was a failure.

Feeling good with 100 points, and no WR or Flex points yet.

4 WRs, and 2 RBs to go.

I figure we are still looking at about 110ish for a cut line, but hard to measure bye weeks, with bigger cut down percentage.

Well my QB less team is 5 below the cutline. I know what fates plan is. Keep me close enough to the cutline to torture me until about 10 tomorrow night.

With Jordan Love on bye, today was a perfect day for C J Stroud to have his best outing of the season and kick in 39.2 points. That's my highest QB output so far this season.

I'm sitting on 120.30 after the 1pm games, with all 5 RBs, and 6 of my 11 WRs still to play.

Gotta love the Saints Defense putting up 17 points today, and Grupe kicking in :kicksrock:16.3 (pun intended)

What’s the cutline right now?

If you're interested in seeing your points while games are in progress (and the live cutline), refer to my post here:

Should be moving on to week 6. Need McLaurin back soon, need Geno to keep his job, and how bout some double digits from my $57 RB duo

Sent you some coffees for your hard work!

Bill is an animal!

David Montgomery with rushing and passing tds ♥️

Christian Kirk makes his first appearance in my scoring.

Raiders defense wins a participation trophy. And my contempt.

This is my best week so far, even with 4 guys on bye week and Pearsall out injured.

I’m sitting in 198.8 after 4pm games…
With RB James Cook -10.8, and WR Kayshon Boutte, - 13.3 remaining for FLEX scores,
And JAGS defense and CHIEFS defense - 17

Would be nice to get a few more points and crack 200. I’m guessing lots of teams will probably be over 200 this week.

182.8
+ either Drake or Josh ( yeah, I didn’t get that until just now)
+ Josh Palmer or Kyle Wiiliams
+ KC (-7)

On to week six.

Good luck to those sweating the Turk.

It would be surprising if Cook doesn't top 10.8.

I'm at 166 +Diggs-10.6 + KC defense-0.0. 180.7 week 1.
