2025 Las Vegas Raiders thread - ☠ 2nd round pick signed, Earth is now in harmony and balance again ☠ (31 Viewers)

Wonder if the Raiders tried to get Wilkins to use cryotherapy? Maybe same clinic AB went to?
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, “the Raiders voided the remaining $35.2 million of guaranteed money left on Wilkins’ contract last month.” The Raiders’ decision is reportedly “due to how Wilkins treated the rehab from his foot injury he suffered last season.” He signed a four-year, $110 million contract with the team last offseason, but appeared in just five games before suffering the season-ending injury. He totaled 14 tackles, nine quarterback pressures and two sacks while active. Wilkins reportedly filed a grievance with the NFLPA today. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport adds that the team asked Wilkins to undergo surgery to correct the injury but Wilkins declined.
He already had surgery and wanted to avoid a 2nd surgery, I wouldn't want to voice a lot of anger at Wilkins, other veteran players have a limit on the number of surgeries they can go thru
Terron Armstead for the Dolphins had a limit while he was playing, they opted to sit him most of the time at practice to counter his pain management

BTW: Wilkins made $49.5M for the 5 games he played in a Raiders uniform.
You and I have no idea what the current health is of Wilkins, I know PUP for the moment but we have no idea what the 2nd surgery vs what Wilkins thought was a better path for him
He might still collect his $34M owed to him, Wilkins did quite well signing with the Raiders

I feel no sympathy for the team or Wilkins, it's not personal, it's business

I can’t help but think that cutting Wilkinson is evidence that Mork is cash strapped. Yes, I know he has that big, new stadium that is supposedly a cash cow. If that is the case why has he sold over 25% of the team the past few years?

If you look at how the team has reacted to some of the high priced contracts through that lens, things seem to make sense. Signing, then cutting Garopollo in one season. Botching Carr’s release and receiving zero compensation. Now Wilkinson.

Granted they signed Max to a big deal. But maybe that pushed Mork’s budget to the limit(?)

If Wilkins signs elsewhere and tears it up, that will just add fuel to my hypothesis.
You thinking cutting Jimmy "Noddle Arm" G was a cash flow decision? Really? No, seriously, really?

Carr was botched for sure but that seemed more like ineptitude than anything.

Wilkinson is interesting but it feels more like looking for an opportunity to move on from him with an ejection on the contract that had a chance to make it not hurt as much. It is a huge gamble to take if you were just looking to save cash flow because if he wins... ouch.
Getting rid of the dreamboat was not a financial decision.

Carr and his agent had the raiders by the short hairs. And they correctly decided to move on.

Wilkinson is being portrayed as a non compliant. Doesn’t seem solely money driven

And have you seen the valuations? The raiders have skyrocketed in value since the Vegas move.

Foot injuries are very complicated and most doctors advise surgery as a last option because there is a fairly high rate of failure vs other types of surgeries
You rarely hear abut an ACL surgery gone wrong these days, we still see folks cringe when discussing a Lisfranc injury.

8-12 week injury initially for Wilkins? Surgery in October, he should have been well on his road to full recovery, something went wrong with the surgery is my guess, there should not have been a need for a 2nd one, I understand Wilkins POV and I also understand the Raiders POV, they spent a lot of money for just 5 games, they are not exactly getting off light for this free agent signing.

Stupid callback joke aside, I too don’t hold the Wilkins signing against them or think it was a bad move. I loved it at the time and think it pays dividends if he doesn’t get hurt.

But he did. And then he didn’t rehab as needed. And here we are. Moving on….
