That is a whole lot of faith in a guy who hasn't really played much in two years and a rookie. I would like additions in LB and DB because I am not sold on who we have. Glad you have more faith in them... or maybe Pete... than I.

I have concerns about our back 7, for sure. May take a while for them to gel, and might even be a disaster.
The team has kind of punted on LB. Elandon is clearly the alpha right now. If I thought they could get something done with a 3-safety look with Chinn as a nickel LB, i would be into that.

Chinn is an exciting piece. You can move him around a ton.
Even if the starters put it together, we are so very thin all across that back 7. It makes me nervous as hell.

Absolutely, our LB is a tragic situation right now. Pratt is no savior but he'd improve the overall talent level.

Once Spillane and Deablo left, the cupboard was empty.
I am in favor of the strategy, even if I would have kept Spillane. But he was a journeyman who blossomed here. We have 4 veteran journeyman now, Roberts had a better track record than Spillane did when he arrived. I feel like we can find a pair to hold the fort.
And that's all we need, if the DLine plays well. Without Maxx Koonce and Wilkins performing, the LB won't matter. We could have two studs, and if the line isn't getting pressure, you have a bad defense.

Yea... I have a little drool come out of my mouth thinking what they can do with both Bowers and Mayer....but if we aren’t going to get them both on the field Mayer is probably worth more in a trade. Chip seems to have evolved and is more flexible in using his roster so I would like to see what happens.

Man, listening to JPJ gush about Donte Thornton is so awesome. I can't recall a Raiders rookie class over the last three decades that had me more excited than this one, especially combined with last year's stellar class, and a walking HOFer in his prime leading them all. AFCW is brutal, so expectations are tempered, but cannot wait to see this group come together.

Has a familiar ring.
That phrase should NEVER be uttered by a single Raider player, coach, staff, execs, or even fans.
We haven’t sniffed “consistent mediocrity” over the last 2 decades, so let’s get to that level first before any dares to associate “excellence” with this bottom 2 franchise since 2002.

"Striving for Excellence" has been Pete's philosophy long before he became a Raider. It's actually how he defines "competing" and the core of his always compete philosophy. The jist of that message is to frame competition as reaching to become the very best that one has the potential to be. You are taking it the wrong way due to years of Raider fatigue. I get why, all good, but today is a new day and Pete is redefining everything.

In reality there is very little difference between the two. One has a slight emphasis as a value and the other a slight emphasis as an effort. In both, you can have a commitment to excellence or strive for it and fall short of achievement of excellence which we have seen for the last two decades. The ability to focus an an organization around a value and rally effort to it is an important thing when building or rebuilding culture in that organization.
I am all good with a fresh take on the organizations core value that is something Carroll has owned in his own way being pushed to revamp our culture in the organization.
Commitment and Striving for Excellence. Let's just get to that standard.
