A-List Celebrity To Be Outed As A Sexual Predator (4 Viewers)

Matt Lauer our at NBC for sexual misconduct
I'm not sure why, but this one surprised me a bit.

Interesting that he was fired on the basis of one complaint, although the article on CNN said that NBC found reason to believe that it wasn't an isolated incident. Also appears that the NYT has been looking into Lauer for several weeks now. So clearly there is more to it.

There's gotta be a whole lot more people in power out there whose sphincters are tightening more and more.

This is getting insane and I am not sure how comfortable I am with all this.   Without the details man its tough.  They are using the term "sexual harassment" as a pretty vague and all encompassing way.
The New York Times has supposedly been working on a story about Lauer's misconduct for the last several weeks, seems like NBC is getting out in front of the story. Lauer was an icon at NBC, they don't fire him unless there is solid reasons to do so.

But what did that mean he did?  Screw someone that work on the show?  Compliment a girl?  Rape someone?  Its so broad now.   Without specifics I hate seeing someone/anyone lose their entire career over a he said she said situation.

They are? What specifically do you think is so insane about this particular firing?

I assume that NBC knows the specifics and they seemed to think it was bad enough to immediately fire one of their top news personalities. You seem to be assuming that the allegations are vague or not very serious and I'm not sure what you're basing that on.

He sexually assaulted a staffer at the Olympics

Or they dont want to be lumped in with the Wienstens of the world and have the SJW come down on NBC so they fire him under their broke vague company rules umbrella to appear to be proactive and get ahead of it.

Its not an easy situation on any level

I love how you use SJW as some perjorative for people who don’t like others raping people.

Until you know exactly what the allegation(s) are, I'm not sure why you would make any assumption as to the seriousness of the allegations. It seems especially odd to assume that NBC over reacted when you have essentially no information and they have lots of information.

2 reporters for the NYT have said that they have been investigating Lauer and that there are multiple women involved.

The allegation that got him fired is being termed sexual assault and it happened fairly recently.

I'm sure we'll hear the specifics fairly soon. Why rush to hand wring that NBC overreacted and that Lauer didn't really do anything wrong when we'll soon have much more information to help determine those things?

The staffer, who has not been named and wishes to remain anonymous, complained to NBC News bosses yesterday, prompting them to move fast and fire him.

A source told Page Six, “An NBC staffer come forward with a claim that Matt sexually assaulted her at the Olympics. There have been rumors about Matt having affairs with subordinates at NBC for years, but those were believed to be consensual. This incident in Rio was not.”
They found out yesterday and fired him today?  How was there adequate time to investigate the claim to ensure it wasn't someone who was upset for another reason?  This is scary stuff.  Presumably, Lauer didn't admit that he raped her.

Above quote is from a Page 6 article.

Considering we have no idea what happened, what would you agree is adequate time to investigate?

Who said anything about rape?

And? Grabbing someone's ### is sexual assault. It isn't rape. Like I said, we have no clue what happened, but rape is a big leap from the little information we have been given.

Actually, no.

But as a general rule, a sexual assault is one that involves some form of unwanted penetration. Mere fondling is also a crime, but it's usually called criminal sexual contact or something similar.

An NBC insider said Lauer’s alleged victim complained to HR on Monday, “This happened so quickly. She didn’t go to the media, she made a complaint to NBC’s human resources, and her evidence was so compelling that Matt was fired on Tuesday night. The victim says she has evidence that this has also happened to other women, but so far we don’t have evidence of that.”

That is pretty fast. What evidence could she have that would hold up that well after over 3 years to get that guy fired that quick? Would need to be video of what happened (doubtful) or emails/texts from him to her either apologizing or threatening/offering hush money/etc? I am thinking its the latter if this woman says she has evidence it happened to others, too

I'm guessing enough that NBC probably pulled the fire alarm with their legal team to vet the information out, and that team probably gave the green light to fire. I don't think it was just a simple knee-jerk reaction. I think the information was likely vetted, passed up the chain and the brass did quick probability math to land on "Yeah, so, we have enough to go on that the cost of our reputation outweighs us wrongfully firing with in-hand and reviewed info brought forward. Lauer's history."

My wife had said the opposite. After the Charlie Rose thing, she said that Lauer will probably be next- she said he has always been condescending and aggressive with women on TV which she has found to often translate to other inappropriate behaviors in private.  I guess her radar is working pretty well.

Oh, yeah. They clearly felt they had enough to go on. I am just curious what it is/was that she has that got him canned that quick. Has to be pretty damning (I would think).

these social justice warriors are ruining what was once a great nation

can't insult the cripples anymore. can't grab a titty at the office party. can't hurl racial epithets at 9 year old's during your kids soccer game. can't bar the ethnics from shopping at your stores anymore.

WE WERE GREAT ONCE!

Also says that the NYTimes has been inquiring about Lauer for weeks. Have to think that NBC execs were aware of stuff like this for a while now.

No doubt. If the allegations are true, he may have been known around there to have a certain MO and this woman coming forward was what they needed to drop the hammer.

Somewhere Ann Curry is slamming sake bombs and dancing on tables.

pantherclub has taken the side of the assaulter in other instances as well like in the tayler swift thread he just seems to always be on the side of the assaulter take that to the bank bromigos

if history has taught us anything it is that ex nfl players make great morning hosts so i hope that nbc replaces lauer with none other than dbrickahsaw ferguson i think he would do a wonderful job take that to the bank brohans

Amazing that no one would have believed these women a few months ago, and now companies can't let the alleged perpetrators go fast enough. While it's an encouraging development that this type of behavior will hopefully be prevented (or at least won't be tolerated) in the future, I can't help but feel that this could be headed somewhat into witchhunt territory. But then again it's telling that most of these guys in the media/entertainment business aren't denying the accusations (less so for those in politics).

Lauer always came off as being a bit of a creep.  Just the way he would ogle and talk to Savannah Guthrie
