I mean, say he would have ratted out everyone 20 years ago. He wasn't working much if at all. I don't know what his finances were like back then. Given the knowns and unknowns ... what speculatively could have happened to him and his loved ones had he spilled all in 1997? Seems possible it was much more than career threats keeping him silent -- maybe personal threats against family?

I don't think he realized just how bad the situation he was in as a kid really was until after Haim died. In the scene from The Two Corey's in 2008 where they let the beans spill about their experiences, Feldman seemed to have a "well, me too" attitude about it, where as Haim on the other hand seemed to  be expressing just how much if screwed up his life, even going so far to suggest that Feldman's apathy about it all is what was pissing him off. I think for years Feldman just viewed what happened to him and Haim as bad, but it was just like that everywhere for everyone else, so his bad experience wasn't unique. His "apathy" about the experiences was still there even in 2008. He didn't go to the police in 1993 to turn people in. He gave the police names because the police came to him wanting him to name Michael Jackson as a sexual predator. He instead said, Jackson isn't one. And he knows Jackson is not one because he knows what predators are like, because he was a victim of predators, and here are the names of the people who did it to him. So yes, he always knew what he experienced was bad, but I don't think it was until after Haim died that he realized just how uniquely bad he and Haim's childhoods were. Since Haim died, he's taken on a much different approach to it all, and has said numerous times that he didn't realize how much he was surrounded by monsters until he was much older.

Yeah, I can see people reacting to similar and horrible situations could react differently. I feel bad for the guy.

I don't know how I missed this -- I knew Feldman spoke to police during a Michael Jackson investigation, but I had no idea he named his molesters to police.

That's been public information for 24 years?

Yeah, I dont have any care about Matt Lauer making that comment and any one who does is fake. Every single man here has said flirtatious comments to a woman, his was just on tape. Gay men get away with saying a lot worse to women, which is another topic...is what gay men say to women any worse then straight men sometimes, but we know how women look at it, is that a form of sexism? Not so simple when you bring in the many circumstances and nuance into such issues.

So what was the tipping point which made everyone feel safe to come out with these stories? Because we know that this stuff has been going on for years based on the stuff coming out, but only now are people opening up about it. I think this is just going to be out of control for a while, and I don't have a problem with that, I think it ultimately will make people who commit sexual harrassment more cautious about doing it because of the risks that they will be outed.

we had a the husband of a friend who started sexually harassing women employees within months of landing his first executive chef position. ex-husband, and ex-executive chef. 

but the cooking world sounds a lot like hollywood- insular and power-driven (and mostly male, historically). wihtout knowing anything about him beyond his tv presence, seeing batali's face on the news didn't surprise me... and I doubt he's the last.

Some people aren't happy to just be happy and content. They are unhappy and they love drama and attention. Acting like Little ##### let's them get attention and makes them happy temporarily in a ####ed up kind of way.

Solution: ignore them or tell them to #### off
