A plea for when comparisons are made (1 Viewer)

Can we stop jumping all over posters when they compare young players to much more successful players from the past?

When somebody says a guy looks like Randy Moss, they probably mean that he is fast, can leap over defenders, maybe is tall and lanky. He's not saying he expects him to BE Moss, just that he has some of the same characteristics and would be the same type of receiver, a guy that would excel with athleticism but may not be a great route runner.

Or when somebody compares a RB to Emmott Smith, he's probably saying the guy doesn't have elite speed, but runs tough and has good vision. I don't think most of them are arguing that they expect a guy with two starts to someday be the all time rushing leader.

So can we stop flipping out and mocking people every time we see comparisons being made? If someone says 'I think CJ Spiller is going to have a better career than Barry Sanders" then mock away.

What about unsuccessful? Terrelle Pryor = Vince Young.
Challenging the reasons for the comparison seems totally legit to me.

For instance, comparing Robert Woods to Marvin Harrison makes sense to me because of how good Woods is at running routes and because of his hands. Comparing him to Randy Moss would be ridiculous.

Someone (*cough* OP *cough*) is DEEP in that Zac Stacy thread. LOL
I do like Stacy, but I'm not sure what that has to do with this. I'm not one that even tends to make a lot of comparisons. I just have seen a lot of people getting all high and mighty in threads recently when someone else makes any type of comparison. Honestly, it just makes the mocker seem stupid to me when they don't understand that comparisons are made to illustrate points about body types or attributes.

Maybe people making comparisons should be more careful.
Why bother? Isn't this what the Shark Pool is for?

One guy starts it... half react like it's the dumbest thing they've ever heard, and the other half come storming back... and it just goes from there.

Was it ever any different... honestly?

I presume there was a time between the first and second ever posts where there was no argument.

This past Friday I compared Gio Bernard to Barry Sanders and was immediately mocked and bullied. It was very hurtful and made me not want to post here anymore.

THank you to to OP, I applaud your initiative. Together, we can all, clean up the shark pool and return it to greatness.

Same crap popped up in the Zac Stacy threads... well it's all of them really.

I like the idea behind this thread, but without hard moderation it's not likely to change.
