AFC Championship Game - Baltimore Ravens at Pittsburgh Steelers (1 Viewer)

I dunno. I'm a Steeler fan but that looked like a dirty hit to me. I admit I don't know the exact rule. I thought that if the helmets make contact, whether inadvertent or not, it's illegal.
So if a tackler goes for someone's waist and the ball carrier ducks down and helmets end up hitting first, you would say it is illegal? I don't think so.
In fact, on the screen pass to Parker, when Bart Scott lit him up, the first thing that hit was helmet-to-helmet. Perfectly legal, nothing Scott could do about it. That's football.

I have no vested interest in it either way but I will say I've coached football for several years and leading with the helmet is illegal and "dirty" .. Clark went Helmet first.. and you have to be blind or maybe even a steeler homer not to see that.. and although maybe it wasn't intentional, according to the Rules, it plainly should have been a flag.. solid, physical, and hard hitting football is a beautiful thing.. but Phil Simms blew that analogy on that call..

If you lead with your shoulder, that doesn't mean you won't be committing a helmet to helmet. He led with his right shoulder towards McGahee's left, which directly lines up their helmets. That's poor technique. Left shoulder to his chest and his helmet is outside his right shoulder - good technique, safe and legal.
Of course he had several seconds to get all of that processed in the brain, regardless of what stride he was on, etc.Just stop it.
:banned: Steelers are going to win anyway, why can't you just admit he lined it up wrong? He's going to be fined.

Go Cardinals
You are a tool. I hope bad karma strikes all of your teams.
What like the Pirates and the Penguins
The Penguins and Steelers are fine. You got me on the Pirates. What have the Detroit teams other than the Red Wings done lately?
Pistons won the NBA title in 2004 and have been to 6 straight Eastern Conference finals. Tigers were in the World Series in 2006. HTH.
Cavs/Celtics down this past year?

Hit was legal.. he clearly tried to lead with his shoulder. Unfortunate play and I sure hope McGahee is fine, you never want to see anyone get hurt.

No penalty there, and I doubt there will be a fine. Scott stopped Parker on a play about 7 minutes into the third where he speared Parker in the helmet with the crown of his. No flag there either.. they only call it on a defenseless receiver in the process of making the catch or on a QB.

Bottom line is, fine or no fine, there was no intent to injure there. And we're GOING BACK TO THE SUPER BOWL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Getting ready for some serious Steeler hate these next 2 weeks. It's going to be Steeler fans vs. the rest of America rooting for the underdog. Hell, I would have rooted for the Cardinals if I wasn't a Steeler die-hard.

Cool to see Whis and Tomlin both in the Super Bowl in year 2.

Can't wait to hear Bart or Ray crying about how they really won the game even though they scored fewer points.

I think it was unintentional but illegal. Regardless of whether he led with his shoulder or not as Steeler homers with blinders on are claiming, the defender's helmet made contact with the receiver's helmet first. But bryhamm shtick is always funny, let it go.

Congrats to Jerk, Bell Jr, Ahrn, Evil, Tim, and all the other good Steelers fans here. To all the bad Steelers fans, act like you've been there before for once.

Way to go Steelers!

I never thought that this team, with the weakness at offensive line, and the tough schedule, would be even close to this position. Going into the year, the best I hoped for was 9-7 and a shot at the AFC North Title against Cleveland (I also never thought the Ravens would be in this situation.) This team has exceeded my wildest expectations.

Now, if they can win the SB against an excellent Arizona team, that will be 6 Superbowls, and the Steelers will have to be considered the modern day Yankees of the NFL.

Great season, Ravens!

Hope Willis is OK.

Love to see all the Steelers hate! Because it means that Pittsburgh is still playing. You know we'll be seeing a lot of it for another two weeks, and probably longer. Keep bringing it. Sorry to those who seem only to live to root against the Steelers, but good for us.

Thanks, DD. You're not one of "those" I was talking about. I know who you root FOR. Good luck on another cup.

Pistons went to the Eastern Conference Finals like 8 years straight won a title. Tigers were in the World Series couple years ago. Lions Pfft. You're city don't stack up sports wise any way you try to spin it.

Congrats to the Steelers.

Baltimore - great run. I hope McGahee is OK.

Should be an interesting offseason for the LBs in Baltimore.

Considering where the Ravens were last year, how they were stood up by Jason Garrett a year ago, and how everything seemed to come falling apart preseason when Boller was hurt and Smith was sick to be disappointed about losing the AFC championship game is a worthy price for the season.

As a Ravens' fan I wish Rex Ryan some luck as he likely starts a new job tomorrow. I wonder if Ray Lewis is moving on? I hope McGahee is healthy and hope he arrive to camp in shape next year (assuming he is still here). Hopefully this season was a glimpse of good days to come and not the beginning of the end. Either way it was a fun season!

I'm a good Steelers fan. But I take offense to people taking personal pot shots or calling the Steelers Super Bowl win vs. Seattle a mistake. Sorry if I stand my ground. Anyway, go Steelers. It was a hard fought win and I was sweating until the end. The Ravens are a great team and the rivalry will only continue as Flacco continues to grow. The Super Bowl will be awesome. Whiz/Grimm vs. Tomlin - good for them!!

WOW, if we choke this one I will claim for the return of the chin.
What language is this?
I'm pretty sure Steelers43 said Tomlin's not a good coach.
It was conditional to giving the game away. But Troy saved the day.
Yup. Weak.
Why?
Exactly.
OK dude.
Tomlin got your team to the conference championship with a lead in the fourth quarter, and you were ready to jump off the bandwagon if they didn't close out the game because you didn't agree with the playcalling. Forgive me for not calling you a die hard fan.
Can we agree that:Tomlin Bandwagon <> Steelers die hard fan

Kudos to Baltimore. they were outplayed on both sides of the ball and STILL managed to hang around and have a shot to pull it out. I hate the ravens, but I sure as hell respect them. They're a great team (probably the second best in the NFL this year) and quite a turn-around from last year.

:hophead: to a great season and 3 great match-ups, all you Ravens fans.

AFC North is gonna be a tough division next year ... well the top 2 teams will be tough. :hophead:

Hey! I'm as die-hard as they come. I complained about the play-calling at 16-14, too. If it wasn't for the bonehead on the punt return, the Ravens would have needed only 30 yards to have a FGA.I wanted to see the Steelers play to win. I don't like the "not to lose" approach even if Hines is out.I may have been wrong. Maybe Tomlin had faith the defense would do exactly what it did. It's all good for me.

Absolutely right. The Ravens are super-tough and well-coached. They and the Steelers are the undisputed smashmouth champs of the league.

Also, I know the Polamalu vs. Reed debate will rage on, and certainly doesn't hinge on one game, but Troy was the difference maker for Pitt today and I barely heard Reed's name all day. Tomlin/Arians/Ben deserve a lot of credit for neutralizing him.

The only shame in this game is that today was the least compelling of the three matchups as far as quality of play. Injuries had a lot to do with it; maybe even nerves. However, I'm sure many people saw the first two games, too, as the first was MNF and the other was CBS national (weren't they all?).

A great point, and something that needs to be considered if bringing play-calling to the table.
