All Android/Google All the Time (1 Viewer)

So after almost 2 weeks with the Pixel, I have to say I'm more than pleased and have no regrets making the switch.   There are still a couple things overall I like the way the samsung OS handled but it is minor at this point.

Also to add - I took some pretty cool pics but they have kids in them and I don't post pics of other people kids or my kids on a public forum :)

Here is on pic I took at dusk.  Not the best subject

Not sure what happened - trying to fix link

I upgraded from a nexus 6 to a 6p, the finger print  scanner on the back is amazing.
And one other thing, so good to have an indicator light again.  I hated not having one on the nexus 6.

I just read a comparison of charging speeds between the iPhone 7 Plus (2900 mAh), Pixel XL(3450 mAh), and S7 Edge (3600mAh).

Even though the Samsung has the biggest capacity, it still charges much faster. All 3 phones started at 1%,  had wifi and BT off, and airplane mode on.

The test found that, after 30 minutes, the Pixel XL had 24 percent of battery life and the iPhone 7 Plus 18 percent. But the Galaxy S7 edge was leading with a 46 percent charge.

At the 1-hour mark, the Galaxy S7 edge still led the show with an 85 percent battery charge, followed by Pixel XL with 54 percent. Last was iPhone 7 Plus, which had only 36 percent battery charge.

Hey google.

Can you make the finger print scanner scroll my home screens.  Up down for notifications, left right for screens.  THANKS!!!

I was coming here to post that I'm about to make the switch and get a pixel and go to t mobile to take advantage of their pixel special. But I thought the phone was supposed to charge super fast.  That's one of the main things I wanted.  Is that not the case?

I have zero complaints with the battery. But it's not super fast like the Note 7

2 hours for a full charge

Samsung S7 is about 1.5 hours for a full charge

So my note 7 was a bit quicker.  What you got with the NOTE until it exploded was it would charge like 50 % in like 30 minutes.

I don't have any idea what my Note 3 would take to charge

Anyone hearing anything about Pixel XL glass breakage.

My neighbor broke his screen after less than 1 week.  Fell from waist high, onto a shoe and onto the hardwood floor.

Called Verizon and added insurance and will wait a few weeks and making an insurance claim.

The introduction video said it would charge 80% in 15 minutes. I have lots of days where I leave the office for my hotel and have 20 minutes before I need to leave for dinner.  Fast charging would be a big deal to me multiple times a week.   I'm disappointed that isn't the case.

I dropped my brand new Pixel XL - D1.  With no case about 3 feet onto a metal tractor "step" and drove about 100 ft with it lodged between the frame and metal footrest.

I have a tiny scratch that annoys me

These all use the USB3 typeC charger right? Or maybe just the droids do?

Fast charging: up to 7 hours of use from only 15 minutes of charging

I did read if you have a Chromebook pixel charger that is faster but don't know for sure

I was unaware of this t-mobile promo.....guess i'm moving to the pixel now

Did you guys see that the Chinese can hack Android now?

What things can I be doing to better secure my phone? Do you guys use a VPN while on your phone? How about things like blocking access to text messages or to files on your phone. Thanks for the ideas.

Ok google peoples.   Just a quick question.   I have a PIxel XL.  A guy I work with also has a Pixel XL.

We both are from Verizon.   We both have the same app version of Phone. We both have the latest software update.

When he gets a phone call - he has to press either answer or ingore

When I get a phone call - I have to swipe up or down

Thoughts

I had a Note 4 with fast charging, and the Pixel fast charging doesn't seem much faster.  The battery is much better though.

I have to press the green button to answer, I'd rather swipe.

I had a crash a few weeks ago when at a wedding popping in and out of the camera quite a bit.  It froze and I wasn't sure how to power off.  On my Note4, I'd just pop out the battery.  I just kept pressing combinations of the side buttons, and it eventually restarted.

Overall still happy.  Pics are phenomenal.  I really like the feature to hold down, and make animated gifs.

Yeah I don't know how fast it actually charges but the battery is pretty good IMO. You do get usable battery life in only 15 to 20 minutes though

I have zero regrets with my decision now.

Previous Note 3 - Note 7 - Note 7 owner :P

ETA: Did you receive the November patch update?

Yes the crash was pre-update.  VR coming in a few days.

Hope so. I received confirmation that my Rebate was validated on 11/3 but have not recieved anymore updates since then.  No shipping info or nothing.  I even checked with customer service yesterday and they said I was ready to go

There was a thread a week or so ago on AC about that. Some were saying it could have to do with the app version of the dialer. Others said it could be due to being in "trusted locations" or not. But I don't think anybody came up with a conclusion as nobody could replicate the issue. There was no rhyme or reason for it. Some people even experienced both.

Edit bell here's a link to the thread http://forums.androidcentral.com/showthread.php?t=744971

Hulk, my Daydream shipped yesterday and should be here Monday or so. From what I've read it can soak up about a third of your battery life in an hour and the phone will get really hot. Otherwise, the unit itself is supposedly pretty comfortable

Mine was free with the preorder as well, but I paid $11 so it wouldn't be sitting on my front porch for 6 days.

I noticed in my apps there was a "pixel launcher" maybe he isn't using it or is using a different Google launcher?  I'd like to know because I liked the swipe better.

Daydream View goggles came in, and I'm pretty impressed.  I will definitely be taking more panorama pictures and am going to download the app that allows me to take 360.

There are a few interactive things, but not in photo quality.  More like a video game.  It was draining my battery pretty fast, and it was heating up like a Note7.  The controller works pretty good with it.  I was up and running in no time.  Just had to go their the tutorial. If you want to jump right in Download the street view app.  There is a goggle icon, in the top right when in street view.

Overall, I'd say it's still a gimmick.  Your really at the mercy of the content, and the quality of the content.  Most street view pics aren't at a high enough resolution to blow you away, but it's still pretty cool.  I don't see myself doing it too often, but it's going to be cool to revisit panoramas.

I take back what I said, it's not a gimmick.  This VR is amazing, even my wife is onboard.  Took a bunch of 360 & panorama shots today, and it's really cool.  The cardboard app lets you record a sound snippet as well, so when you view the shot it's like you are there.  Unbelievable.  I look forward to playing with this thing over the holidays.  I'd easily spend $100 on this thing.

Probably buying a new phone in the next week.  As geeky-fun as the VR sounds, I am hard pressed to think I'd really use it all that often.  Kinda sorta have my choices narrowed down to the Pixel XL or the OnePlus 3T (with a small chance for the ZTE Axon 7).  Obviously I save a couple hundred by NOT getting the Pixel.  Any final thoughts from the gang here on choosing between these models?

Did you check out the LG V20?  I assume you rulled out the S7 already?  OPO 3T feels like where I would be leaning if I were looking for a new phone right now.

ETA: It also may be worth checking out the Moto Z Play (or whatever they call the one with the huge battery).  Not sure it would make my short list, but people seem quite fond of it.

LG V20 just seems too big for me.  I'm already moving up from a 5" phone (old N5), and think that may be too far a leap.  Plus the price is almost double a 3T.  No go.

Wife had an S3 and now an S6 and while she likes them a lot and they have served her well, I like a more stock feel which I think the ones I have narrowed it down to have.

Will look up the Moto Z Play now, thanks.

Ok update.

If you have a 3rd party app that installs into the Accessibility settings.

Turn it off.  Guy at work has battery plus or something. That's the root cause of the bug

Any updates on great black friday deals? Been with Sprint forever and finally out of contract.  Sprint sucks in the phoenix area so thing possibly Verizon, maybe TMobile? Id prefer not to pay 600-800 for a phone (well 2 phones actually). Thinking about the pixel phones or s7.

I'm in the same boat but can wait a little longer than a week.  But still, I'm between the same phones.

Have you considered the N5x? I also had a N5 and liked the stock android experience so the 5x was the next logical step for me. The price is good and moving from a 5 to a 5x allows you to "clone" your apps to the new phone seemlessly and save a ton of time.

Heads up for the Pixel phone app issue guys - there is a new version of the Phone app out: hopefully that will fix the problem.

How new - I don't see it in the store

We both have the Oct 19 version.

We were able to track it down to the Accesibilty menu thing

TLDR Daydream is a gimmick right now, but I see a lot of potential.

Daydream has been pretty interesting. Like Quez said, it's very limited right now with the content. Some of it is kinda really cool, some of it is pretty meh, though admittedly I haven't tried everything. The shark one was ####### balls though (can't remember if that was just a youtube vr thing or not). Wow that one gave me goosebumps. The games seem expensive and the free ones are short demos. Though the Mario Kart clone seems like it could be really fun. There was one app that included a 360 view of Celebrity Jeopardy from the SNL studio. Turn around to your right, there's a couple of hotties sitting right behind you. That's about all the sexy that I found...I thought pron would lead the VR landscape   :kicksrock:

It fits comfortably, but they designed it for people to also wear their glasses so some light can sneak in around the corners of your eyes. I have a lamp next to my couch that I would catch glimpses of quite often. I feel like later versions should make that adjustable. I'd recommend being in a dimly lit room for the time being.

The controller works well enough. Though I feel like I had to center it quite a bit (a quick holding down of one button) during games/apps that involved a lot of movement. I did like that you could configure it to be lefty or righty (I'm lefty). The main button is also a touch pad so depending on the app you can swipe or move etc which should offer some nice usability.

The phone got pretty warm while in use (usually only a half hour or so at a time) but at the same time it cooled down to the touch within minutes. Obviously the battery drained faster and the phone got hotter depending on the intensity of the app.

Couple questions for Quez or anyone else with it:

Did you get a user manual or anything? I didn't so there's been a few pain in the butt things to deal with. Like the wrist strap wasn't attached so I think I jury rigged it right. How do you exit out (other than just opening it, Xing out and and hitting home etc)? Where do you find the battery level of the controller?

At any rate, I'm sort of in the middle of Quez's two posts above. Initially I thought to myself, "Self, there's no way I'd pay for this." But now I'm like "I need to figure out 360 camera shots,  and they need to get working on content" If you got $80 burning a hole in your pocket, pick it up after Christmas

FWIW here's  link to all the apps available and what is coming in the pipeline. http://www.vrheads.com/every-daydream-app-you-can-install-right-now-and-look-what-comes-next
