Andre Ellington - RB - Clemson. (2 Viewers)

I didnt realize Ellington's next 4 week schedule was that rough, but no way Im dropping him. He's my RB5/6 and I think is all upside. I'd easily drop Hillman over him and Im actually dropping Snelling for Miles Austin.

After watching video last night on both players I def like Christine more. If I drop anyone it would be BELL but if Bush goes down he's gold. Not sure a out ARZ O-Line. Doesn't seem to matter who runs in ARZ the always suck. Man I wish there was a way to have both guys. Hate how my league only allows 5 total Rbs.
Good and bad that limit is. On the one hand you're forced into decisions like this. On the other hand, at least you have options at RB on waivers...if owners could hoard RBs that might not be the case. I think nowadays I'm in favor of something that keeps a portion of the already limited RB pool available to tap into.

I like Ellington's talent but his O-Line and the mean Ds in his division are mitigating factors (and yes, I do know SF has been gashed on the ground; I don't think AZ can run on them though with its current run blocking state of affairs).

He plays the 49ers twice and he plays Seahawks twice. Why are people so high in him. He was the 5th or 6th ranked RB out of collage and he ran a 4.5...He doesn't have that top end speed. His lateral movement is amazing and I love how he can catch. Still not sure about him yet anyone wanna sell me on the guy?

low risk med reward. Could offer good fkex rb 2 value. Likely would be a 3 down back who catches passes and should be the gl back. Mendenhall will likely loose his job to poor play or injury. Imo

because after 3 weeks of football half the starting rb in the league have been knocked out and people are desperate for the kareem huggins train

kind of like how religion works

Some of us play in larger and/or competative leagues and need to overturn every rock.

Yup, he was a great pickup in my 16 team PPR league. Can't wait until he takes over.

He is much faster than his 40 time.

PPR league for bye week/injury upside play and late in the year upside

OR for keeper/dynasty leagues that are deep enough to make him releveant

Andre Ellington - 11-68-0 rushing, 9-113-1 receiving

Yards Per Touch: 9.05

Is there an RB in the NFL with a better YPT?

For comparison (YPT):

McCoy: 7.15

Peterson: 4.59

Charles: 5.40

Sproles: 8.22

Woodhead: 6.15

Undoubtedly, YPT would drop with more touches, but it's a glaring indicator he deserves more touches, too.

edited to add: D.Brown: 8.73 , so maybe not a perfect indicator.

Too bad the schedule looks so brutal. Still, obviously flex-worthy if you're in need. Glad I picked him up cheap after week 2 on a whim.

Just purchased 2 autographed Topps Platinum Andre Ellington rookie cards on Ebay for $9 including shipping.

They utilized him 11 times tonight. After watching some more tape, I think ARI will soon come to the realization that that's not nearly enough.

He's Daryl Richardson with more wiggle.

He essentially puts up twice the yardage on the nearly the same amount of touches as Mendy. I wouldn't be surprised if the changing of the guard starts to occur next week.

Either it happens or Arians is dumb. As a Steelers fan, Im not sure which side I lean on.

I have no insight on this, but it wouldn't be the first time a coach stuck with his guy, or a vet over a younger player.

kent somers doesn't seem to think they're changing the guard anytime soon.

I'm still not convinved this cat is a 3 down back in the NFL, but I really like him as a third down back, That catch on the sideline today was a thing of beauty, and he looks like he belongs, especially in the modern passing NFL. I don't think he is going to force Mendenhall into a backup role, but he's going to continue to get enough touches to be worthy of flex consideration in PPR leagues.

This situation reminds me of the year when Charles broke out. I owned Charles that year, and recall similar flashes of elite skill, yet sat back on depth chart as coaches doubted his ability to be a 3 down back..

I have Ellington In Both of myleagues... Thinking if they give him a shot, he could produce in a big way come playoffs this year.

I feel the same way, almost to a exact point. He reminds me a lot of Charles in many ways. Definitely in terms of production. The only real difference here is that he should be getting a real chance this year where as Charles had to wait until Larry Johnson fell of the face of the earth to see a real chance. But there are plenty of similarities between the two of them.

Ellington, like Charles is making the most of his chances. Charles averaged about 5.3 ypc and 10.1 ypr in his rookie season. On 67 rushes and 27 receptions. Ellington is currently averaging 6.7ypc on 18 rushes and 11.1 ypr on 13 receptions. They share extremely similar builds... Charles is listed anywhere from 5'11" to 6'1" and 200lbs. Ellington is listed at 5'10" and 199lbs. I definitely see a lot of Charles when I watch Ellington play, good shifty receiver, tall but skinny and extremely fast (he ran a 4.61 40 but that seems odd to me when watching him on tape).

I think there's a good shot that by seasons end he was "The Waiver RB add to own" and ends up on a lot of championship teams.

Rotoworld:

Andre Ellington and Rashard Mendenhall each played 30 snaps in Sunday's Week 5 win over the Panthers.

Ellington continues to close the gap in this two-headed backfield. Over the last three weeks, his touch count has risen from six to seven to 11. Proving to be more than a strict passing back, Ellington is averaging 6.66 YPC on the season. With Mendenhall struggling (3.17 YPC), Ellington needs to be owned in most 12-team formats. He's far better than his sixth-round draft position suggests

I am pretty optimistic about this guy long term and his role will keep growing. That said, I feel like it is going to take a Mendenhall injury for him to get into FF starter territory in non-PPR. Like Charles, his upside is very high. Also like Charles, he will not be trusted with 20-30 touches a game for a few years.

same body type as CJ?K but whatever RT @mikejurecki Arians: Ellington role 30-32 snaps/game, doesn't have body type for more over 16 games
i dont get it. just a few weeks ago he said that he could be a 3 down back?
Yeah, seems like it's just coach speak to me. Not really sure what to make of it... he has the same size and stature as CJ?K and Charles. Who are both and have both been every down backs.

To play devil's advocate, some coaches have that mindset that smallish backs can't hold up and prefer more of the bruiser types. Todd Haley comes to mind with limiting Jamaal Charles's use even when he way outperformed Thomas Jones.

Yep. Haley was wrong and poor coach overall. It amazes me how people that can't see what is in front of them get these jobs in the first place. Much less keep hanging around on other teams.

Yeah, Haley and even worse Baby Shotty come to mind immediately when it comes to just ignoring the talent around them.

For some reason Ellington looks a little thicker than Charles and CJ1/2K IMO.

Hopefully they get to the point where he is getting 15-20 touches a game sooner rather than later....

It's weird though that Arians said earlier that they view him as a three down back. Now, he performs well, and he's apparently only a 30 snap kind of player. NFL coaches are the worst.

Strange that Arians is putting Ellington on a snap count as opposed to a touch count. Guess he's also concerned having Ellington having to block when he's not touching the ball.

he has actually been pretty good thus far in his limited opportunities

Does anybody actually like Ellington MORE with such a horrible run matchup this week @SF?

The 49ers defense should have little problem holding Mendenhall under his 3.2ypc average and Arians may be forced to turn to Ellington draws and screen passes on earlier downs.

Or am I wishfully overthinking it?

I like the idea, but yeah, you are probably overthinking it. I would avoid all of my Cards this week.

The Zona schedule looks very difficult and at best this is still a time share with Mendy who gets the GL looks still. I want to join this hype train, but I just can' t see dropping better handcuffs to the wire for him. Down the road, yes. But first need to navigate the bye weeks. Probaby will be too late though. Someone will claim him off waivers this week. Too bad I don't have just one more roster space available.

I'm staring him with mild confidence and feel like he could explode this week even on limited touches.

On paper it seems like a bad match up and it makes no sense that he would have a good game but this year is really, really wacky so far. It looks like that's what you should but....

Any given Sunday.

Fitz had better come to play. We'll need him to beat the 49ers. Big game for both teams.

Cardinals Defense is decent. 49ers still not playing at full strength.

Like you, I just can't shake the feeling Ellington springs a couple big plays this week. Looking at the game stats through 5 weeks, here's what opposing RB's have done (receiving) vs. the 9ers

Lacy - 1-31

Starks - 1-8

Lynch - 3-37-1

Bradshaw - 3-16

Cunningham - 1-17

DRich - 1-8

Foster - 4-20

Tate - 2-12

Nothing special, but I'd take Ellington as a receiver over all of the above not named Foster and the 49ers will obviously be paying extra-special attention to Fitzgerald. I could be guilty of seeing something that isn't there, but I have a hunch this is Ellington's coming out party.

Maybe coach just wants to scare everyone off with the limited touches. I don't see Mendy getting more than 10-13 carries this game as Palmer will need to go downfield or dump off to keep pace.

Unfortunately, I think it will take another Mendy injury for coach to get this guy 20 touches per game. The offense is what it is at this point. A ball controlled offense in the first half with the Def keeping you in every game. Second half opens up a little bit (especially for Ellington) as ARI plays catch up or needs to move the ball. If they get a big lead (that's a big if...) mendy will get carries to burn the clock.
