AP's tragic situation (1 Viewer)

Best healthcare system in the world, please God work miracles today for this child.
South Dakota is in America not Singapore.

That aside... I'm shocked he's going to play. If my two year old son was in the hospital and wasn't going to make it. I don't think I'd be able to walk for a week, let alone play football.

Just horrible. Sad this kid wasn't living with his father. This could have been easily avoided.
How could this have been easily avoided, you do not even know the facts or what happened.
Maybe I don't but I thought that the kid was beaten by the boyfriend of AP's baby momma in some apartment? Is that not correct? I'm pretty sure this situation goes down different had he been living with his dad in one of his mansions.
So having kids live with the mother is bad when the parents are separated?
I think it's bad that pro-athletes collect illegitimate children like I used collect baseball cards.
Don't knock Antonio Cromartie's off the field hobbies. He's working his way towards a baker's dozen.

Adrian Peterson (personal) told reporters he will play in Week 6 against the Panthers "without a doubt."
Coach Leslie Frazier publicly confirmed the news. Peterson flew to Sioux Falls, South Dakota late this week to attend to a family matter involving his infant son. The fact that Peterson was back at Vikings headquarters on Friday and will start against Carolina hopefully means the young boy is doing well. "I'm able to release a lot of stress through sports," Peterson told reporter Sean Jensen. "I really appreciate all the support from fans and the Vikings. I ask y'all respect my privacy."
Is rotoworld just speculating the child is doing better or are there reports out there with encouraging news?

Good post. Chilling with my 17 month old right now, I could not function enough to get the mail.

Last report I read was that it'd be a shock if the child pulled through.

This kind of thing happens dozens of times every day - nobody seems to care too much about those kids, certainly not tall the babies killed in the womb ...

But if it impacts your fantasy lineup, then its a huge deal huh ?

Pathetic
I also follow stories like these on other web sites, like Yahoo. It's just as sad and disturbing when I had never heard of the parents.

Tragic news. My heart and prayers go out to those who are dealing with this tragedy today, and specifically to this toddler who reportedly lies in a hospital in critical condition.

Undoubtedly, this is bigger than fantasy football. It is bigger than the Vikings versus the Panthers.

That being said, this is a fantasy football forum, and I have no problem with a discussion of the potential fantasy implications involved.
Well that's a relief.

Rotoworld expects him to make a full recovery and be an intriguing flex option in 2034.

Adrian may not be as attached to this child as the articles linked earlier say it was a secret baby.
My goodness...
Yeah, sad to say...
He might not be very close to that son, if he has any contact at all. Just speculation, but I've only ever heard of him having one son (Adrian Jr.) and a daughter.Doesn't make a difference and I'm glad to hear he went there this week. Horrible situation, but it seems like U read a story of horrific child abuse in the paper every few weeks.

I should have known better than to view this thread. If you ever want to get depressed about the state of civilization today, justy read some of the comments in the Shark Pool in a tragedy thread. It's almost sadder than the tragedies themselves.

I don't get this... is this some attempt at humor?

I'm sure I will get crucified for this, but here goes...

Why is most everyone shocked that AP would play on Sunday? It is highly likely that this is a kid born from a tryst where the woman ended up getting pregnant. It is likely that AP only knew this woman for a few hours before knocking her up. It is likely that he committed to provide child support for this child, but not much else.

I am not suggesting that this is not a horrible tragedy, but odds are, AP did not have any kind of relationship with this child. This is pure speculation, but odds are in my favor. And this is one likely explanation for why AP will be playing on Sunday. He is being paid millions of dollars to do so after all.

I don't think it's that shocking, either. Even if he is close to the child, just moving forward is how a lot of people cope with tragedy. I'm sure many of us have had the misfortune of knowing a coworker or friend who lost a family member but was back on the job surprisingly soon. Some people just need the distraction and the routine to get through it. I don't know if anyone's judging him morally or whatever on this yet, but I don't think anyone should. Life is weird, and death is weirder.

This thread = pointless speculation about other peoples' personal lives. Just hope the kid recovers and be done with it. We'll know if AP is playing or not by game time Sunday. End of discussion.

We already know that AP is playing. And we're pretty sure the kid will be taken off of life support later today. This is not speculation.

Pretty sure = speculation. Duh. And AP saying he will play now makes it a pretty safe bet that he will play, but sometimes people change their minds in such circumstances. And who is we? Do you speak for more than yourself?

No crucification. This is the first the public has heard of this child, so the chance your scenario is correct is likely. Even if he's a big part if this kids life, it's still just as sad.But to your point, people on these boards, especially the SP like to call out and prove moral superiority over others. Just the way it is.

There might have been 1-2 crude jokes or some folks focusing on the fantasy impact. Whatever, it's not like its gonna make it to the family or change the "real" situation.

Being that every report is saying the child isn't going to pull through and will be pulled off life support. And Peterson himself said "I'll definitely play on Sunday" I'd say both are more than pointless speculation. And closer to almost proven hypothesis.

People on the Shark Pool really need to buy a dictionary, the amount of people that don't understand basic definitions of the English language on these forums blows my mind.

It might be a mistake to equate this with our own children. There's a difference between a baby you hold and care for every day, and one that you've only seen three or four times in your life, and didn't even know about until well after the fact. They really aren't equivalent, and some of the posts in here are troubling in the implications. I love my cousin that I haven't seen but twice in the last 30 years, but as upset as I'd be, I wouldn't miss work over it. I love my nieces that I see two or three times a year, but if this happened I might take a few days off to console my sister, but I'd be doing it more for her and my family than for myself.

If this child is one AP barely knew/saw, and he isn't close to the people who were in the child's life every day, then it's really not very surprising that he would choose not to miss this weekends game...I know I probably wouldn't in his place. All those with children in here....losing your child would NOT BE EQUIVALENT.

All the news reports really tell me is that he's in critical condition. The only reports regarding life support getting pulled I've seen are from TMZ and the Citypages, which I don't consider to have the greatest pedigree. And until the decision has been made to pull life support, it hasn't been made.

From what has been reported, this sounds realistic. It's tragic for the child, I really hope we get some better news tonight.

This is terrible regardless of his relationship. It boggles my mind that this #### still happens.

As far as those people saying AP should be there, I don't think we know enough to say that. He did leave the team to see the boy and came back. If the little boy is going to be fine then AP leaving may have been the best thing. He is allowed to run and hit people on Sunday. If he stays and let's that anger and hate build up by himself there's probably a good chance he ends up doing something bad.

As of right now we don't know enough (and may never really know the whole story) that we can pass judgement of APs character.

Let's just hope the little boy pulls through.

Just horrible. Sad this kid wasn't living with his father. This could have been easily avoided.

This. Travis Henry comes to mind.

We don't know, he might go back to SD following practice. Its a short flight. I have no issues with him playing this week either. All people deal with tragedy differently. He does need to go back and be with his son during his final hours if the reports of him being taken off life support tonight are true. That is just the right thing to do, regardless how much he was in the boy's life.

Yep, you are absolutely correct. This makes complete sense. Not even close close to the same thing.

It was reported that the mother didnt know who the father was, it could be one of two guys, and only recently did AP find out about the child.

Nothing more to see here. Hope the kid pulls through, AP will play.

Mods shut it down.

The seed is strong. That steel-clamp handshake, the bionic Wolverine knee, the greatest runner of all time... I know that baby is going to pull through and make a full recovery because he's got his father's genes.

Per Chip Scoggins of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune

@chipscoggins
Adrian Peterson's son has died according to police.

It would appear you're unfortunately wrong.

I feel bad for AP.

Horrifying situation for any parent of a young child to be in. I'm sure there are all types of what-if scenarios racing through this mind right now. Hopefully he is surrounded by the right people.

I can't imagine what I would do. But I know I would want to take out that rage on something. Its only natural right.

AP says there is no doubt he will play. If you are a Carolina Panthers defender, aren't you ####ting yourself a little bit more than normal right now? Seems to me the great players strive on adversity like this as they channel their pain like fuel into their passion. I'm going to have the pop-corn ready for Sunday, and I'll probably break down in tears at the first sight of AP on the sidelines.
