Look, I know the world has all types. But it seems everybody and their brother's show is running a Fantasy Football segment now. Almost every single one that I hear is simply a series of WDIS calls. The callers are either clueless or want to get stroked for their rosters or just want to hear themselves on the radio.

The main thing tying most of them together (especially my local station's show) is that the hosts are utterly clueless about fantasy football. The guests are often knowledgeable folks in the field. They get Del Pillar on one of the national shows to answer an hour's worth of WDIS. Why bother? He does it because it's a free pimp, but the time could be better spent.

I pretty much turn the dial when these segments come on any longer, as it's painfully uninformative and a bit embarrassing. Now, I'm not one to usually call folks guppies (I think 'shark' is a pretty lame term) or ask "can i be in your league?". The game has all levels. Everybody's gotta start somewhere.

But most of these shows really do nothing with the allotted time. They could be so much better. Sadly, they're not.

Just wanted to get that off my chest. I feel better now.

I agree with you, I fit into your category above (and their brother)... Our show is in its rough stages, we're still learning the ropes, trying not to fumble over each other, but I think we'll get it down eventually. We started a show up recently online (just for fun) and we're having a real good turnout each week in the chat room and the live callers. We try to interview a top fantasy player from a national competition each week, and try to get a guest on the show (Lou from BFD, etc.) that can break down 1 game and give a little insight). We also try to cover the other topics that we like.. against the spread picks, player props, and survivor pool strategies. Finally, simple WDIS are boring for the most part. I'd rather throw out some insight on some of the more "obscure" pickups and starts, for those teams that are in a real pinch. Players like Ted Ginn, James Hardy or Cedric Benson. At least try to give a projection on these guys based on past statistical data. Sometimes people don't have time to look up the trends, or don't realize that TEAM X gives up XX amounts of yards against the pass, that kind of thing. That's the type of content that really sparks interest to me, because we're just too busy to study each matchup for all our leagues. Give me a "hunch" to run with based on something sound, and I might just take you up on it.

I do think there are some good shows on BLOGTALKRADIO. There are quite a few choices and they run from 30 mins to two hours. Not all the material may be great but at least the hosts, for the most part, aren't annoying.

I have heard part of your show, Scott and aside from some of the "fumbling over each other", it's pretty good. You do some things that the other shows do not and you are not like some of the other hosts. You are well informed and know what you're talking about. Your co-host(s) do not measure up, though, and I think it brings the whole show down a level.

To the OP's point, though, I'd have to agree. WDIS calls can get a bit old and most hosts are clueless. That said, if you can carve out your niche (like it seems like you're trying to do) then you will be successful. You know a lot of respected people in the industry and you're not giving us a lame Matthew Berry "Start so-and-so against The Chiefs because they can't stop the run" segment.

As more radio-type shows come on, I think people are starting to understand how important chemistry is between the hosts.

Further, as someone that spends a bunch of time listenning to FFradio shows, I can say I get annoyed a little too often lately. If Steven Jackson runs for 126 yards and the host says 226, 76, or 106....are you kidding me? Do research before, open up several windows so you can at least chat about it. Blowing smoke is silly and there's too many people out there that know the facts to be blowing smoke. I really think I would love to here someone say "I don't know" or "haven't been keeping up with that". There's a zillion nfl players. I don't care if the host knows every single one. A large amount of knowledge and/or up to date on news, sure but every player?

I think you guys(and me) need to let the hosts know. Hold em' accountable.

This is one 4-5min example but you only have to go a minute or two in.

One of those guys is super highly respected Titans writer, can you tell which? That show doesn't "work" for me but, I do watch those videos fairly often. I don't think I'm alone. Chemistry is important but I think people will come back for good info, regardless, IF IF IF it's top notch.

As far as BTR. TheAudible guys have the best show and it's not even close. Probably Cecil and Bloom's experience on real radio is a huge dividend. Andrew does a show the night before and maybe that's like a warmup for him for theaudible show. It flows well, good info, good chemistry, hosts have a good time even work jokes in....very enjoyable.

IMO Best gameplan for a show is FSG. I like the fast pace, somewhat consistent questions being asked each week etc. That show could easily be 3 hours but it's 1.5.

A number of shows on the web are about their league. I could care less. Yes TO is in their league and in my league but, it doesn't work for me on radio. I feel like "why should I care about who you picked up or traded?". It's hypocritical as I enjoy reading some articles like that but, that's how I end up feeling while listenning.

 The AUDIBLE is the CADILLAC of player information radio shows. After I became a fan of that show, there's no reason to try and do another show like that. It fills that need perfectly.
