Brandon Marshall Ruled Out For Sunday (1 Viewer)

Could the Chiefs win this game if Marshall didn't play? I sure wouldn't rule it out. Orton won't throw to anyone else and the Broncos' running game isn't exactly lighting the world on fire.

From RotoWorld:

CBS 4 Denver reports that Brandon Marshall suffered a potentially severe pull or strain of his hamstring in Wednesday's practice.

The injury is to Marshall's right leg. The contract-year wideout came up limping at the end of a drill and had to be tended to by Broncos medical staff. He did not return to finish out practice. Marshall's loss would likely be a death blow to the Broncos' hopes of advancing in the playoffs. He is essentially the only pass catcher Josh McDaniels consistently calls plays for.

Yup. Now check out the game logs and tell me whether the other WRs on the team tend to get consistent targets each week or if what we saw last week was a departure from the norm.

As my screen name suggests, I'm a K.C. homer. I think Denver wins this game with or without Marshall. :bag:

I agree. But if they are lucky enough to make the playoffs, any hopes they might have of advancing hinge on having a healthy Marshall...This still sucks, though. Marshall is perhaps the only reason watching Denver games has been entertaining this season. He's far and away the only explosive player they have (at least on the offensive side of the ball).

I disagree, they have basically the same offensive players as last year, sans Cutler. Just because the current coaching staff doesn't use the players (Royal, Scheffler, Stokely etc) in the same fashion as the old coaching staff, doesn't mean they aren't explosive. It's clear to me that McDaniels doesn't trust Orton, or he is too conservative by nature, but I sure hope he learns how to open up the playbook next year, or at least become a little less predictable. I think there is room for improvement with this team, but hey, it's Josh McDaniels' rookie season as a head coach too, and he's made rookie mistakes. I'm willing to give him a pass for now, and hope things improve next year. I think some things have improved already despite the rookie mistakes.
I just put a little cash on the Chiefs +13.
That seems like a really good bet. Almost a no brainer. I think Denver pulls out a win, but I'm not thinking they cover that spread. Good bet.

Were I a betting man, I'd be on that. Broncos don't seem to blow anybody out of late. Heck, they don't seem to win of late.
I agree with the bolded completely but let's remember Denver won 44-13 in KC about a month ago and KC looked completely outmatched in that game. Not saying it will happen again...ust more of an fyi.

Yep, that was a bright spot on the season.

I currently plan to start Moreno and Marshall on Sunday, so will be following hammygate with great anticipation.

Here is another FYI:The Broncos won convincingly at Oakland earlier this year, only to lose to them at home two weeks ago.

Let us remember Marshal caught 21 balls in the game against Indy, a losing effort. Not saying it will happen again... just more of an fyi.

I also once ate a whole plate of nachos with cold runny cheese. I didn't feel so good right afterward, but I felt better later.

Happy New Year, you all.

God Bless Brandon Marshall & LBJ.

Just saw this on Twitter. Marshall OUT for Sunday.

PostBroncos

Brandon Marshall will not play on Sunday - McDaniels said it is a coaches decision, not injury related

So Marshall and the Broncos are startfinishing the year the way they started it.

ETA: I got that completely wrong the first time.

Yep, it just scrolled during the Capital One Bowl. They're terming it as "benched" because Marshall is unwilling to play due to the hamstring.

Maybe Marshall doesn't want to tweak it and miss the Pro Bowl. :) :goodposting:

Either way, time for McDaniels to finally figure out a way to get Eddie Royal involved; he has let his talent go to waste all freaking year.

Glad I was on this D-bag's jock all season.

Gotta LOVE week 17 championship games. Last week in my semi-finals, I had Marshall, Fitz and Steve Smith (CAR).

All three are done.

This week I have Sims-Walker and Malcom Floyd.

:lmao: :P :P

Besides the benching of Marshall and Scheffler, the Broncos may not have receiver Eddie Royal available because of a neck injury. Royal will likely be a game-time decision.
So basically, Boy Wonder is trying to throw the season.Although, if Marshall is "unwilling to play"... benching him seems like semantics. The only good news out of this is that 70% of the people remaining in my suicide pool took Denver. :lmao:

Marshall responds to his coach's comments, per the Denver Post:

===========================================

Marshall's response to McDaniels' decision, and his assertion that there are "a lot of players that play with things that are more difficult to play with than what he has."

"I don't think coach ever played in the NFL, so for my hamstring to be feeling the way it felt, it's tough for me to go out there and expect to play at a high level," Marshall said. "So, I have battled through a lot of injuries before. I played last year with a tear in my hip, so I don't think my toughness is in question here.

"I just have got to do my best to get back to 100 percent, and hopefully things fall into place where it should be and hopefully we'll get into the playoffs and I'll be there with my teammates."

EDIT: This was also in Donnybrook's link. Just wanted to paste it.

Remember those stories from ex-Patriots who talked about how the coaches wanted them to play through possibly serious injuries, and how them doing it hurt them in the long run, including in their post-football lives? Yeah, it sounds McDaniels has brought that same mentality over from New England to Denver. :goodposting: :hey:

He's taking the high road on this one so far. I'm tentatively siding with Marshall, though who knows what the truth is regarding the severity of his injury...

McDaniels has done a pretty decent coaching job this season, especially early on (although how much credit should go to Mike Nolan is up for debate). His GM skills are still unknown (and he is the de facto GM with number-cruncher Brian Xanders holding the official title). But this kind of crap needs some explanation for the sanity of the fan base. We already know he's a liar from the Cutler fiasco, we don't need him to be a tyrant as well.

What precipitated the Scheffler benching? I don't understand.
McDaniels doesn't like him and Shef was Cutler's biggest supporter, so I look for Shef to be gone in the off-season. They tried to get him gone this year.I ate my crow when the Broncos went 6-0 after I predicted them to not win more than 4, but McDaniels is a punk and I don't see this team going anywhere but to the bottom of the division with him at the helm.

Whatever happened to keeping this stuff in house? What is McDaniels doing calling out the team's best offensive playmaker through the media? Just a dumb move.

I'm reminded of something Michael Lombardi has repeatedly mentioned over at National Football Post about Belichick's intended audience when he speaks to the press: the team. If McDaniels is modeling his career after Belichick (and so far he has, even down to the hoodie), I'm guessing he's trying to send a message to the team. Not sure what that message is other than: I'm the boss.

Ted Johnson immediately comes to mind.http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2751614

Anyways, here we are again dealing with McDaniels' drama. I've never seen a male so addicted to drama as he is.

The fact that Marshall didn't get a contract extension is a blessing in disguise for this guy. He still put up great numbers in a "meh" system and he can sign with a better team with better coaching next season for probably more money then the Broncos were going to offer. I'd love for my Giants to get him... Marshall/Nicks/Steve Smith... a boy can dream.

That's exactly what I though when I heard this story. McDaniels is the Chad Johnson of coaches. Except without the being-good part.

The sad part of it for Bronco fans is that instead of losing the idiot, drama queen, power hungry coach, they're going to lose the best receicer in football and THEN lose the knucklehead coach a year later when the owner realizes how terrible he is.

Message: "If you draw a personal foul, smack the referee, and get kicked out of the game, you can play next week. If you tick me off, you can't."

Dear Brandon, There is a strong armed QB in Baltimore that could use a little help at the WR position. He can throw the ball accurately a country mile, and he doesn't lose his poise.

Sincerely,

Jim Harbaugh
