Brian Calhoun - Only 2nd player in 1A history (1 Viewer)

Anyone still think this is your "typical" Wisonsin running back? Clearly, the numbers don't lie for Calhoun. He's a great all-around threat, who has skills that translate nicely to the next level.

Barry Alveraz had this to say::

"When we win big games, our running backs play well," Alvarez said. "This one (Calhoun) happens to be the most talented of the ones that we've had. He's the most versatile of all the running backs that I've had.

"We've had some great ones. We've had a Heisman Trophy winner (Dayne). I'm telling you, (Calhoun) has more ability than all of them."

I wonder if he will declare for the NFL draft? Can't see his stock getting much higher.

I think the guy is firt round talent, but the impression I get is he'll be a second round pick this season. If he thinks he can parlay another year like this into a higher draft slot in 07, I could see him coming back. Wisconsin's offense is changing. John Stocco, QB, really showed me some things in the Capital One Bowl. He stood in the pocket and delivered in big situations, and took some big hits. He made some good, strong throws. He's proven he can move around a bit. I think OC Paul Chryst is going to do some big things for the Wisconsin offense.

Saw quite a few WIS games this year and Calhoun was very good in all the ones I watched, had some really nice moves. Really like the kid. Stocco has really improved this year.

Calhoun was impressive yesterday. Reggie Bush and LenDale White are going to be my top two RBs for the 2006 draft. After that, things get a lot closer. If Calhoun declares then he deserves to be in the conversation with DeAngelo Williams, Jerome Harrison, and Laurence Maroney. Calhoun didn't always make the sharpest cuts yesterday, but he made people miss when he had to and he showed an impressive burst of speed. He's a good receiver and he has a lot of natural football skills. It's a bit premature to assume that he'll be a star in the NFL, but he could be a versatile pro back in the mold of Tiki Barber.

The last I heard he had submitted his name to the advisory council and was waiting on their thoughts. I have also heard rumors that him and Joe Thomas were going to return, but those rumors were in early December.Very talented and versatile and even while being a tad undersized he will find a job in the NFL. Not much for power but he does do a great job making people miss and finding his way through some tight holes. The one thing that impresses me the most about Calhoun is that he seldom takes a hard hit. He always seems to be able to make that last little move for a yard or two more and his awareness his top notch.

Unlike a lot of folks, I think Calhoun will make a very good pro. I really hope he doesn't come out this year though. The RB market is saturated enough already. :wall:

I am a huge Badger fan and unfortunately I just don't see his stock getting any higher. The talent is there but because of his size he'll never be a high draft choice. I think the mid 1st round would be the absolute highest he'd ever be drafted. He probably won't get a whole lot bigger so I think the time is now.I've heard comparisons to Portis which I think are pretty fair. He's definitely along the mold of a Portis, Dunn & Westbrook and guys like that just aren't high 1st round draft picks. Calhoun has great vision, moves and good hands and will make a pretty good pro. As a Packer fan I'd love to see a draft of Hawk or Mario Williams in the 1st and Calhoun in the 2nd. Though as a Badger fan, I want him back.

Calhoun is a stud and should come out this season. I liked what I saw from him here at Colorado. With the Badgers he has really matured as a runner. He's more patient than he used to be and he sets up his blockers well.
