With the 5.24 pick, the 49ers select Jared Allen, DE

Getting up there in age, but he should still have another 2-3 years of elite production left. Enough for the championship window with Brees, anyway.

5.26 Rams select Devin McCourty, CB

McCourty actually turned into a pretty solid corner this past season, both in coverage and against the run. With my fearsome front line, I'm thinking that's all I need.

1.07- J.J. Watt

2.26 - Vince Wilfork

3.26 - Nick Fairley

4.07 - Derrick Hohnson

5.26 - Devin McCourty

I'm obviously biased. That said, I think this is the best defense (unfortunately, of course, also the worst offense) so far.

ETA: I sent a PM, btw

 Played safety most of last season

ProFootballFocus.com ranked McCourty as their 13th-best safety in the nfl

And 8th best CB. According to them he played just over 500 snaps at each position. Not bad versatility...
Exactly what I was going to say.As I continue with flexibility, I very much considered that in my pick. If corner value falls, I move him to safety. If safeties fall, he plays corner. I'll roll with it

5.27 Chicago Bears - Phil Taylor, DT

Wallace was my first choice here. Happy to add Taylor to the line though. Had a real good rookie yr and then looked good in his return from injury last year.

5.28 Vikings select Jason McCourty, CB

Good young corner, was hoping to pair him with his bro, at least I got one.

Damn, I figured I would get at least one comment on my Jared Allen pick...sure he is older, but he is still probably the 2nd or 3rd best DE in the league right now. Heck, the Andre Johnson pick got lots of love, how about my superstar veteran? :)

Great pick of course. He fell further than he should have. He just wasn't one of the guys on my short list.

You probably took him about the right time. I don't think he's even in the top 10 at DE anymore though. PFF has him as their 11th best at just pass rushing last season, but he was down at 24 overall because of all the penalties.

5.30 Philadelphia eagles select Michael Roos

Rg3

Hakeem nicks

Michael Roos

Mario Williams

Jarius Byrd

I just got back home. Roos and Vollmer were both my picks so I need to regroup. I also need to handle a couple other things first in addition to catch up on the picks but I'll make my picks in 30 minutes or so.

 Jared Allen is not a top 10 DE? In what world?

And what the #### is with everybody quoting this annoying PFF all of a sudden? Like that stupid site is the gospel.

The current one? This isn't 2011.

:wall: Just need to back away.

Jared Allen, for all his pass-rushing glory, had only 12 sacks in almost 1100 snaps. His production is declining. That's not to say that he couldn't get more this year, or that his leadership and experience isn't worth something. The 5th seems about right, but again why pay for past production? All that matters is what he'll do in the next 5-10 years and his upside is limited.

I did just read that he had a torn labrum last year and he's having surgery, so maybe with full movement he'll return to his former glory. So yeah he's worth a 5th. It's not a bad pick IMO just not a steal.

According to rbm, posting anything other than pick number, team, and player name is far too much information
Not true. Stupid hyperbole and quoting PFF annoys me.And I'll admit I've got a chip on my shoulder over the Flacco nonsense.

Certainly blindly using their rankings is dumb, but ignoring a valuable reference which uses actual stats and calculations is also dumb.

I'm 36 but definitely an old soul. Exalted seems like my biggest nemisis, so to speak. I'm wondering if maybe you're a younger guy?

5.32 Saints select Michael Bennett, DE

6.1 Saints select Chris Harris Jr., CB

With 2 pick to go before mine, I had 2 high impact left tackles remaining on my board: Roos and Vollmer. Both went right before me. Ideally I would have got a LT here but I'm not panicking because last year Rodgers had Marshall Newhouse protecting his blindside. I think I can at least do that well at LT.

I am sticking true to my board and taking BPA. Bennett provides a young edge rusher coming off a hot season. Chris Harris will be used similar to how he was used with the Broncos, where he excelled. Webb can track the other team's best receiver while Harris can cover the number two and move to the slot outside of base personnel (Webb is also a good slot corner).

For your Drew Brees-led team, I think the pick is a perfect fit. He'll be 31 to start the season and I expect he only has 2-3 more years of his prime left and then he'll be a solid contributor for another couple of years. This about fits Brees's window. I think most teams were scared to select him and other players around his age early because generally players lose it really quickly and there is no definitive age when it happens. The dropoff could happen sooner than expected.

:goodposting: Good pick. His versatility is a huge plus. I almost picked him at 5.8 but felt like I needed to get a good LT. My plan was to play him as FS in the base and move him to outside corner outside of base personnel.
