Build a FRANCHISE draft (1 Viewer)

Certainly blindly using their rankings is dumb, but ignoring a valuable reference which uses actual stats and calculations is also dumb.
Yep. I'm liking it to reaffirm my instincts and draft board. When I like a guy and go check and see that PFF has him WAY down, or I'm thinking of two guys and one is much higher than another in the facet I'm looking for...it's a great resource.
I'm 36 but definitely an old soul. Exalted seems like my biggest nemisis, so to speak. I'm wondering if maybe you're a younger guy?
I'm much less outspoken, but also not a fan of some of your picks. Then again, I really like some of your others. For example, I think Allen is still overvalued based on name where he fell. (I know not your pick, but I think you were the one shocked some people thought this?)ETA: and it could be very well be an age thing. I'm in college.
5.32 Saints select Michael Bennett, DE6.1 Saints select Chris Harris Jr., CBWith 2 pick to go before mine, I had 2 high impact left tackles remaining on my board: Roos and Vollmer. Both went right before me. Ideally I would have got a LT here but I'm not panicking because last year Rodgers had Marshall Newhouse protecting his blindside. I think I can at least do that well at LT.I am sticking true to my board and taking BPA. Bennett provides a young edge rusher coming off a hot season. Chris Harris will be used similar to how he was used with the Broncos, where he excelled. Webb can track the other team's best receiver while Harris can cover the number two and move to the slot outside of base personnel (Webb is also a good slot corner).
Looooove both these picks. I'm glad someone took Bennett, again, because he was going to be my BPA and I don't want any more DL hahaha. I did want Harris, but I'm worried that he got a lot of scheme and surrounding talent benefit. I probably would have taken him after the other McCourty was gone (I too wanted to pair the McCourtys...)

6.2 - New York Giants select - Evan Mathis , LG

Mathis had been phenomenal all season and should provide another piece in the key to the Giants draft ...protecting Andrew Luck.

Bennett was a slam dunk pick for me. I wanted one of the LTs I specified to go with him. Harris I thought had a good deal of associated risk compared to alternatives for the reasons you mentioned. However, I think my team certainly has talent around him. Webb will be used to track the other team's best receiver. Harris will play the same role he does in Denver where he played CB2 and moved to the slot outside of base. Plus, Harris has the benefit of playing with arguably the best FS in the game currently. Specific scheme is out of my hands; I am simply trying to assemble the best talent around a general, high-level scheme. Harris is young and relatively inexperienced, however he has shown in two straight seasons he belongs on the field. I think his floor if things don't work out is a solid nickel CB. His ceiling is growing on his stellar 2012 season and becoming even better allowing the Saints to form a dominant defensive backfield with Webb and Weddle.

6.04 Orlando Franklin, RT

Thought I was going a different way here, as there are a couple players I wanted to take, but in the end the most important thing I can do for the Titans is protect our young franchise QB for the long haul. With Monroe on one side and Franklin on the other, Wilson should be set. Franklin is also versatile enough that if we decide to move him inside, he would excel there too.

wow I'm up already?

5.21 Cincinnati Bengals select Carlos Dunlap, DE

He turns 24 this season and he's already shown to be a well-rounded pass-rusher. I love his size/speed combo and if I can use him right (unlike the real bengals) I think he can be a premier player in this league.

1.13 QB Matt Ryan 27

2.21 LT Ryan Clady 27

3.21 WR Michael Crabtree 26

4.13 DL Corey Liuget 23

5.21 DE Carlos Dunlap 24
It's hard to say for sure when Geno blows a giant hole in the OLine on every play, but personally I prefer Dunlap to Michael Johnson as a pass rusher. His problem has been durability.

Damn, I figured I would get at least one comment on my Jared Allen pick...sure he is older, but he is still probably the 2nd or 3rd best DE in the league right now. Heck, the Andre Johnson pick got lots of love, how about my superstar veteran? :)
 nobody has commented on my Raji pick... ;)

FWIW I liked your Raji and Franklin picks. They were both on my short list in the 5th round.

Before making a pick, try to search the spreadsheet in the first post to make sure the player is still available.
This seems obvious. This is starting to happen way too often and will only get worse as we get deeper in. The worst thing is that they make their pick and then disappear.

It might be worth it to start another google doc with the players selected by position. Would make it much easier to check if the guy was drafted because like you said, the further this goes, the more difficult it is going to be.

6.5 Vikings select Anthony Spencer, OLB

Put him on the opposite side of Demarcus Ware to wreck some havoc, just like in real life.

Offense

Tom Brady

Andrew Whitworth

Defense

Kyle Williams

Demarcus Ware

Anthony Spencer

Jason McCourty

It's much easier to maintain a single document and it'd be easy for the two documents to get out of synch. Control+F and enter in the player's name. Simple.

Good pick, he was the other player I was considering over Chris Harris.

Someone could start a new tab on the same link. I would do it but I can't get to the site from work and doing that kind of thing on a cellphone would be a a nightmare.

6.6 Chicago Bears - Cortland Finnegan, CB

QB Joe Flacco

LT Trent Williams

DE Chris Long

DT Phil Taylor

LB Jerrod Mayo

CB Cortland Finnegan

If you are not on a phone; before submitting your pick just go to the google doc and CTRL+F and insert the name; if it finds the name hes already taken. Takes only 5 seconds.

6.7 Rams select T.J. Ward, S

A strong safety with youth and upside, Ward is my guy here to build that defensive backfield. I'll hope he continues to develop coverage skills, where he was a positive but not a difference maker. He also was PFF's #1 rated safety in run support, which confirms my thoughts on him as an in the box guy who doesn't miss tackles. With this line rushing the passer, I think my DBs will be just fine in coverage.

Gotta run, please PM next

That makes life easier. Welcome to 2013 skeletore

With the 6.9 pick, the 49ers select Tim Jennings, CB

Led the NFL in interceptions last year with 9.

Drew Brees

Trent Richardson

Eric Fisher

Victor Cruz

Jared Allen

Tim Jennings

6.2 - New York Giants select - Evan Mathis , LG

I might have taken him over Franklin, might be the best Guard in the game.
6.08 Cameron Jordan DE Steelers

have to start building D sometime. Young DE came alive last season
Big fan of Jordan, he was on my short list for the Lions this round.

I'm starting to like the Bears team!! I really liked the Finnegan pick. Need some playmakers on offense though.

Do you guys pay for a PFF subscription or am I missing where these stats are available for free?
You have to pay for them. $25 for a year isn't bad tho. $2 a month, just skip that 20 oz coke every once in a while.
Just subscribed. Very cool.
Yeah I really like it. It's just a spreadsheet with calculations but it's nice having those numbers all together for comparison rather than going to ESPN or NFL or something and having to look at each player individually. Also check out the signature stats tab. Really cool stuff there.

5th round favorite and least favorite picks:

Favorites:

Sebastian Vollmer: I really, really wanted him at 5.32. He has the versatility to play both LT and RT at a high level and last year was one of the best at RT.

Schaub: Getting a good starting QB in the 5th round is good value, even if he has limited upside. I would much rather have Schaub in the 5th compared to Bradford in the first round and Freeman and Rivers in the second round.

Least:

Alfred Morris: He's a likable guy who certainly is making the most of his situation. However, I think he's a product of the scheme more than being an elite back.

5th round

Favorite:

Jason Witten, TE - future HOF player with plenty of time left. Seems to be getting even better with age.

Least Favorite:

None. I actually think everyone went right about where they should

Duckboy will be around 30mins.

FYI: I will not be around much, or texting tomorrow. Still give me a heads up when I'm up though.

5th round

Favorite:

Roos - although I'm not sure if he's the right LT for RG3, he's a value here

Least Favorite:

Warmack - might be elite, but there were proven elite Gs left on the board

Couple of different considerations here, none of which should be here when it gets back to me.

6.10 S Dashon Goldson

Can't imagine taking a rookie like Warmack with ALL PRO Guards available.
Without naming names the reaming ALL PRO guards are between 6 and 10 years older then Warmack. I think he will be all pro level in a couple of seasons. So having that for 4-8 years was the reasoning. 4-8 years is a long time. Sometimes I think you all are forgetting we are building a franchise here; not a FFL dynasty team you are giving up on after 5 seasons.Warmack - 21 Remaining ALL PRO Ages - 27/29/31

6.11 Dallas Selects - Cliff Avril DE

Need some pass rush.

1.11 Calvin Johnson Jr.

2.22 Josh Freeman

3.22 Luke Joeckel

4.11 Eric Berry

5.22 Mike Wallace

6.11 Cliff Avril

You still want to win as soon as possible. I'm not really looking further than like a 4-5 yr window. So much turnover in the NFL. Look at how wild this FA period is. That plus a draft every year means there will be plenty of opportunity to upgrade or get younger when needed.

I dont think he hurts my chances of winning now at all, personal preference on how good I think he is of course which you may not agree with. Plus I dont have to spend a high draft pick on a guard to replace him later. But I get your reasoning too.

6.12 - Cincinnati Bengals select Arian Foster, RB

He's younger than ADP, has way less miles, and has outproduced him over the last 3 seasons. I like his chances as an elite runningback over the next 3-5 seasons.

1.12 QB Matt Ryan 27

2.21 LT Ryan Clady 27

3.21 WR Michael Crabtree 26

4.12 DL Corey Liuget 23

5.21 DE Carlos Dunlap 24

6.12 RB Arian Foster 27
