Can we discuss pet peeves here? (3 Viewers)

I've said it before, but I'd pay extra to sit next to a dog.  They just need to make it so you have to buy the seat for the dog.  A dog won't be too fat to fit in it's seat, making me uncomfortable, won't recline the seat, won't try to start a conversation with me, won't have to make me get up so he can take a piss, etc. etc.

That said, people should have the sense to know if their dog will be able to last whatever flight they're on without peeing/pooping.  And if the dog is 80+ pounds, they should definitely have to buy one of the seats for it.
Yeah. Because they crap and piss right in the cabin.

When people repeatedly ignore trash that they know is theirs. I get it, sometimes wind can take something out of your trash can or dumpster. Maybe the garbage man even dropped it when doing pick up. Maybe you really didnt notice it the first time.

But don't pretend you don't see the huge GD pieces of plastic that are stuck in my bushes that are also stuck in your bushes and are streaming over the lip of your dumpster. The workers responsible for the trash and the homeowner both just ignore it. Eventually I am sure somebody would pick it up on their side, but no way would they walk the extra 10 feet and get it from mine. It has been almost a week. If he wouldnt have cut down all his pine trees this would have never happened. Thank god his kids would rather be on their tablets than on ATV's.

Look maybe you genuinely missed the trash can and didnt notice when you threw away your double chocolate otis spunkmeyer muffin wrapper. Lord knows you have never seen the nutrition label. But when it is constantly moving around the lunch room floor now and you have walked through three times, there is no way you haven't seen it and known immediately you are the only fatty in the place that eats one every day.

If you are going to be the nimrod that cant aim his stream and doesnt have the decency to wipe off the seat, can you please leave the seat up so that at least we can see the urine that is everywhere and dont have to possibly touch it when we lift up the seat.

let's concentrate first on the guy's who are pissing all over the floor in front of the urinal, first

it's like stepping on flypaper in there

These are the most disgusting people on earth. The nastiness I see in work bathrooms makes me want to throat punch some people. Edited to remove part of my comment, so to not offend some who are offended by everything.

Our neighborhood gets a free local paper every week and some ad circular wrapped in plastic that gets thrown in our driveways.  We have new neighbors that will leave theirs out there for days on end.  I don't understand it.

The holidays with family bring annoyances every year.

In laws(wife's sister) decided to dog sit a rottweiler one week before hosting xmas. Real brilliant. Some toddlers will be visiting, I have a great idea honey! Lets host a dangerous dog rescue that has only been with its owner for a month. I mean dogs love changes to their environment like that. We will have a whole week to get it acclimated to toddlers around, oh wait we dont have any toddlers. Well we will take our chances that everything is a-ok. We will just set up a gate and only let him run around the back half of the house. Wait, what? We don't have a gate? Oh I am sure he will be just fine. We wont tell anybody we will be having this dog either so they can all be surprised when they show up and a rottweiler is jumping up at them.

Gluten free nonsense. My nephew does not have celiac. I am not even sure how they arrived at making him gluten free. I got the explanation once, but it was so detailed and down rabbit holes that I cant remember it. From what I understand he still has stomach issues very occasionally. Now from a logical perspective I would say his stomach problems stem from him being the pickiest eater on the planet and pretty much just eating crap all of the time. Gluten free crap, but still crap. His daily routine is a rice krispie treat for breakfast with some rice pudding and a huge glass of whole milk(which they have started putting vanilla extract in for some odd reason and he has to drink it from a straw for some reason too). For lunch he eats processed lunch meat and another glass of whole milk. For dinner he eats gluten free pizza, whole milk, and beef jerky. Yes. They put beef jerky on his dinner plate. For snacks there are lots of candy. So his diet is tons of dairy, no vegetables, and candy.

Anyway my wife bought a bag of gummi bears that we have seen him eat tons of bags of. So she puts them in a bowl and puts them out. When my sister arrives she asks what brand are they. My wife goes and gets the bag and my sister states he cant eat them anymore since they learned that sometimes their (haribo) glucose syrup is made from wheat. Glucose syrup is considered gluten free. But since it is made from wheat there is a non zero chance that somehow somebody could have accidentally spilled wheat into a finished batch and not said anything and then those trace proteins could find their way into a gummi bear at %'s that are still below gluten free thresholds, my sister decided to write them off for my nephew that has eaten tens of thousands of these little bears and is somehow still alive because sally from the internet said she gets sick from haribo gummi bears.

Now if he just didnt eat gummi bears anymore I would say no harm no foul and who cares since gummi bears are bad for you anyway. Oh no. He still pile drives them. He just eats a more expensive sorghum based syrup brand now.

Why does it annoy me when it really barely(no pun intended) affects me? Because one of the most common dinners they eat is freaking pizza from papa murphy's. They get a gluten free one for him and then a regular one for them. So they arent concerned about the employee in the back of papa murphy's cross contaminating flour when rolling out crusts, but they are concerned that a gummi bear might have some contamination???? WTF.
I enjoyed this post. Four stars.

This may have been mentioned before, but I hate the dumb medicine ads that say you shouldn't take the stuff if you are allergic to it.  If those people are that dumb, I'd consider it evolution in action.

Yes, I don't get this either.  I feel like that warning applies to every product every made.

I hate this new trend where we start renaming things because the old name isn't technically correct.  I feel like it's started by someone who's really not that bright, but thinks if they can convince people to change the name, then they can pretend they're smart.

The newest example I see is articles writing, "It's called the 'Dark Side of the Moon', but realistically it's actually more correct to call it the far side of the moon."  Who cares?  Is it bothering anyone that we call it a certain name?  In golf, there's a push to call drivers metals instead of woods.  So should we call the other clubs steels instead of irons?  Just stop.

My pet peeve is the local free newspaper. I don't need it, want it, and I don't want to have to pick it up and dispose of it each week. It's basically condoned littering. Keep yer paper off my lawn!

👴

Yes, definitely Darwin Award recipients.

I once called and threatened to file a small claims suit if they kept littering on my property. They didnt buy it. They were right.

But i agree with you it makes me mad!

At least the free phone book i can open up the door to the att store near me and throw it on the ground.

I didn't go over all 40 previous pages to see if this was mentioned, but my biggest (not including my mother in law) is people just standing on those moving sidewalks/walkways/autowalks.

C'mon, people, how lazy can you get?

I understand people not walking up or down escalators, but is putting one foot in front of another really that hard? Because what is impossibly hard, apparently for anyone, is moving the f over and letting people walk by you instead of clogging up the moving sidewalk with your sloth.
Oh man, I hate these people. They have people movers in airports so you can walk 4x speed past the endless number of gates. Not so you can Wall-E your fat ### around.

It's called a "brontosaurus", damn it.

I read that as "condomed littering".

Also correct.

People that reply all when it isn’t necessary. I coach softball in a decent sizedorganization and we have a meeting upcoming. The guy who runs the program said he’d like to know who can make it so he can have an accurate count for food. I don’t need 46 replies from other coaches saying they will or will not be able to attend.

I've mentioned this before multiple times, but I'd like to add to it.

I hate when people put "Thanks," and their name in their email signature.  It's so disingenuous and just screams "I'm too lazy to actually thank each person I talk to."  But the add on is to the people who have that in their signature but then still add a sign off on top of that.  So it looks like this:

Appreciate the help,

Dumbo

Thanks,

Dumbo

I'm amazed at the number of people I know who still have inspirational quotes in their professional email signatures.  They are without exception terrible and cringey.

Needed a new distributor for my car. Bought one from Oreilly because Amazon couldn't deliver it until like 3 days later and the one that failed was from Amazon. Now I get banner ad after banner ad for this thing on Amazon.

You can make that any random one time purchase from Amazon gets you recommendations and suggestions for a long time. Click some links in the things you recommend thread and it will really screw up your Amazon listings.

I swear all I did was talk about sump pumps around Alexa and I started getting banner ads for sump pumps for a month.

On Amazon, click 'Accounts & Lists'

Under 'Email Alerts, Messages, and Ads' click 'Advertising Preferences'

Check 'Do Not Personalize Ads from Amazon for this Internet Browser'

(eta: on the android app, this is under the menu button - 'Your Account' - 'Advertising Preferences.'  Probably similar on iOS?)

The big down side is that you need to do this for each browser you use, and if you ever clear your cookies, you need to go back in and do it again.

You can also turn off your browsing history on Amazon or delete individual items from the history by going into 'Browsing History' and then 'Manage History.'  I'm not sure if that helps the ad stuff.  And again, I think you have to turn it off again each time you delete cookies.

Articles and studies about the cities with the worst commute time where they clearly only look at people commuting WITHIN the city, not from outside the city to offices in the city.  Saw one yesterday that talked about how some people in Washington DC spent up to two weeks per year commuting. I can show them entire counties full of people commuting to New York who spend more than double that (4 hour round trip x 5 days per week x 50 weeks = 1,000 hours per year), but New York never gets mentioned in these articles because the people doing the studies are clueless.

Teachers who give tests where an entire class of honors students average 60/100.  If performance is that bad, the problem is the teacher: either their teaching failed or their test was too hard.

Not to pick on teachers, but...teachers who clearly don't understand their own grading system.  If 'outstanding' is the highest possible grade, that should be a 100, not a 95.  If you have two tests worth a total of 40% of the grade and a single quiz worth a 'total' of 30% of the grade, you've made the quiz more important than the test.  I don't think that was your intention!

Looking over my pet peeves, I guess I'm just saying that people who are bad at math are a menace to society.

Good advice. I know their fire tablets have a private browser that auto non saves your search.

Sure it's been said a million times already but slow left lane drivers.  The worst.  Inconsiderate, in their own world and actually cause a hazard.  Other cars are lane changing like crazy just to get by, they can slow down an entire freeway.  It's worse when you see them texting as you finally get around.

Some states will ticket them, I think it's in the midwest, great idea.  How difficult is it to look in your rearview mirror and realize you're causing a back up and switch lanes?

Wouldn't that require ticketing people specifically for following the law?  Here in NJ, major highways have a 65 mpg speed limit.  Anything under 75 is clearly too slow in the left lane.  If you're going between 65-75 are they going to ticket you for going too slow AND too fast?

For what it's worth, nobody  EVER goes under 65 in the left lane, so I can't imagine that this would be a pet peeve if you're talking only about that.

Along those same lines drivers tailgating in the right lane when the left lane is clear to pass. Know your lane chief.

The ticket would not be for "driving too slow."  It would be for a failure to follow the law that says to keep right except to pass.

I don’t know if it’s a pet peeve or just a “that’s weird”...but I don’t have a thread for that so...

Couples who sit next to each other while out to dinner. It seems controlling somehow - and insecure. It leaves me wondering “why do you do that, is sitting across from each other scary to you?”
