why are 2 players, on the same team, allowed to have the same number in college football?

Mr R says that there are sometimes more than 100 players on a college team. The rules allow one defensive player and one offensive player to share a number.

Actually the rule is two players with same number can not play the same position or be on the field at the same time. Coaches are likely to put the number on D and O, but sometimes that becomes a problem for special teams especially punt return.

I'm with you.

One explanation I saw ran something like: these things are the ad folks basically telling the us slobs, that make up like 99.999% of the population, who know we'll never look like or live the lifestyle of the models/actors/etc. enacting whatever fantasy is happening in the ads, "the closest you're going to come to any of that is buying this perfume/cologne so you can smell like they do".

Until we get Smell-O-Vision, that's probably the best they can do.

I will admit to being captivated by this commercial every time it airs, because of the main model. Still not going to buy the stuff

I feel like this is an extension of the "everybody gets a trophy" culture that has now followed these kids into the pros. Every young player gets given a "record" of some kind, and it's often making up or contorting stats to make it a unique achievement so it sounds better.

First receiver to catch 100 balls and have 0 fumbles in their teams first 10 home games.
First QB to throw for 10,000 yards and rush for 2,000 yards with a combined 40 TDs, while throwing less than 1 int/game.
Most passing yards while trailing in the 4th quarter before their age 25 season.
Most QB pressures plus passes batted down in a players first 4 years of their career.

I bought some plane tickets today ...and because I went the economy rate not only did I NOT get to pick my seats, even crappy ones ...

* I was subjected to 4-5 extra screens where I had to refuse to pay extra for seat upgrades, baggage extras, and travel insurance

That happens way too often; doesn't have to be a big truck either. Whenever that happens, I just pull up further so I can see and they can't. Try it.

The only free options are to go drop it off at a UPS or Amazon store. It should'nt cost any of my time or money to fix their mistake. it's just going to get worse from here - now they have so much market power, they'll start ripping out all the critical pieces that made them who they are

just like Southwest Airlines - they were cheaper, but better service, and their Frequent Flyer program was incredible - no more, any of it ...but it went away piece by piece
