Carnell "Cadillac" Williams to practice Wednesday (1 Viewer)

Have my fingers crossed. Caddy has been lingering on my dynasty bench for over a year now after being my third (fourth?) round pick in last year's initial draft. In a different, 16 team contest league, I recently picked him up praying he'd make it back. There were no RB's worthwhile on the WW and rosters got locked there this weekend.
Easily one of the lowest value guys out there with the highest upside. Not saying he will be, but it honestly wouldn't surprise me if he was a top 10 RB next season. He has the size, speed, and o-line necessary. He just has to get over this major hurdle of coming back from a severe injury.

...and o-line necessary.
This is the biggest positive for him, IMO, if he can get back to even close to 100%. (Well, that and the fact that Gruden would probably marry him if he could. He's got some serious manlust for Cadillac.)There are much worse guys to throw a Hail Mary on.

Caddy to be activated, Bennett to be cutThe St. Petersburg Times reports that the Buccaneers will activate running back Carnell "Cadillac" Williams off the PUP list today, releasing Michael Bennett to make room for him.

I plucked Caddy (and Torain  ) off the waiver wire in a dynasty. Torain didn't work out so good, but Caddy has a shot. I'd like to see him eased into the lineup though and be ready to roll next season. Hopefully Gruden won't run him into the ground again.

Wow, I'm all fine and dandy with Caddy coming back :bag: but I'm surprised they cut Bennett. Some team will scoop him up. He still has talent imo. Definitely looking forward to seeing Caddy on the field.

Denver has to consider snapping Bennett up
That is a really good point. Bennett has to be better than Tatum. I think it would be a great "feel good" story for Bell to be picked up and released in the same week.

:lmao:I guess Clifton Smith > Bennet in the eyes of JG

while its great that he's made it back to the ball field, its a bit premature to call him a top 10 RB next season.in fact..he hasn't shown us anything since turning pro.

has a career avg of 3.8 ypc..sounds like Errict Wrett to me...

his rushing yardage average per game in the 18 games from 2006 to 2007, was just 54.5 yards/gm, off some 30 yards/gm in 2005, his rookie season..and its not that the attempts were off by that much, he lost about 4 attempts per game since his rookie season ( in games he played in '06/'07)..

call me cruel, but I can't get too excited about a guy who played in 14 games in 2006 and scored just 1 td.. and 11 tds since turning pro..

I may be wrong, but wasn't Graham vulturing TDs that year? With Graham injured, and/or playing FB, that might not be the case, if he comes back 100%.

He didn't run him into the ground. It was a total freak injury.

agree.Caddy has never been very good in the NFL, and now he's coming back from big injuries and people expect him to be what he never was even when healthy.

He's an enigma who's reputation is far better than what he is in reality.

Chargers claimed Michael Bennett off waivers from the Bucs, according to NFL Network's Adam Shefter. It's an odd fit, but the Bolts knew Denver was desperate for a running back and decided to block them. Denver indeed put in a claim, meaning Tatum Bell's stay with the team could have been brief. Instead, Bennett will rot on the Chargers bench. Nov. 12 - 6:03 pm et

Buccaneers | Graham limited in practice WednesdayWed, 12 Nov 2008 15:52:31 -0800

Roy Cummings, of the Tampa Tribune, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Earnest Graham (knee) was limited in practice Wednesday, Nov. 12. He's probably going to be a game-time decision for the team's Week 11 game, but in all likelihood he will play.

Buccaneers | Askew practices in full Wednesday

Wed, 12 Nov 2008 15:52:02 -0800

Roy Cummings, of the Tampa Tribune, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers FB B.J. Askew (hamstring) practiced in full Wednesday, Nov. 12. If he doesn't suffer a setback of any kind, he will probably be active for Week 11.

Most times Coaches treat players like meat - Gruden sure wants Caddy to come back and do well. Good for Williams I wish him well.

Of course Gruden might also feel a little guilty for running him raw his first year (I realize this injury was a fluke) but just saying... he may want some redemption either for Caddy or himself.

Quickly, as to Tatum Bell and Bennett - I'd think that had the Broncos picked up Bennett - the move to release a guy might have affected PJ Pope or Alex Haynes instead of Bell - they have less experience in both the game and the system and certainly don't have any past record to make them safe.

he hasn't shown us anything since turning pro.
I recall Jaws/Schlereth breaking down his running style his rookie season, and "oh"ing and "ah"ing about his ability to hit his top speed quickly and make cuts on a dime while still accelerating.Carnell certainly has not done anything to validate his draft position. He has been a slow learning blocker. He hasn't shown any potential as a receiver. And he hasn't been able to stay healthy for a season. But if you have ever watched him run, you see he has potential to be very good at that. Which is why Gruden loves him.

Gruden has a little of Shanny in him in regards to RBs.

I would not get too excited about any Buc Rb right now. I see a combo of Dunn and Caddy with Graham doing the Mike Alstott short yardage and goal line duty.

Not saying he will, but there is nobody valued as low as him right now that could potentially be valued as high as him next year. And, those stats don't mean anything, because the O-Line is completely different than it was when he first came in.

You gotta pull for this guy to be as close to 100% as humanly possible. Football or no football.

Reminds me of former Patriot, Robert Edwards who had that awful injury on the beach after a super rookie season. Just seeing him play again after all the bad news and tough luck was a pretty cool. Even if it was for the Dolphins. I think he was out of football after that small comeback.

:bag: It's always nice to see players come back from serious injuries and no matter which team you root for it's a great story. From potential career ending to being on the active roster?

Pretty sure Edwards headed to the CFL.

Short term, long term? Any success?

Michael Bennet comments on Caddy & being released,

"I knew from watching Cadillac in practices because of how good he looked." Also his view on being released:Bennett's not angry, even though he had little chance this season to prove his worth with seven carries for 12 yards. But his past year in Tampa Bay was, at best, frustrating."I understand," he said. "I just wish they wish they had told me what was going on instead of kind of getting strung along like a puppet. To re-sign here (in March) with expectations, it's disappointing. It just didn't pan out."

Let him get his sea legs vs Minny, then turn him loose vs Detroit.

Sorry guys, but you're delusional. This guys is just a bust of mammoth proportions.

Been sitting on him all year. Every year I take on a reclamation project and they never pan out. He's doomed.

Sorry he hasn't performed up to your expectations. Go ahead and trade him for a 2nd round rookie pick while you can to spare yourself future headaches.

:hot:
How many rushing touchdowns did Thomas Jones have last year in 16 games? I have been pretty excited having him on my team this year.
People fail to notice the consistently fail to notice the changes in the Tampa O-line. Not sure if anyone noticed they added the best player in FA this season, or the fact that Aron Sears & Davin Joseph have developed into pretty decent guards. From what I hear a RB's success might have a little to do with the line he runs behind.

Nothing should be expected of Caddy this week. I'd like to see him get some carries, take some hits and shake off the cobwebs. I'd really like to see him get at least one decent run or reception just so we can guage his quickness/speed/agility. We won't really know much going into next week if all we get this week is 5 carries for 6 yards, though that wouldn't be shocking vs Minny.

Whatever happens this week, it's still going to be a tough situation to gauge. If Caddy looks good, Gruden will just say something like "We were encouraged by what we saw, and he'll probably see a few more carries next week". He's not going to come out and say "Caddy's our starter" after one game back.

This week, hopefully we get a look at Caddy, but obviously we can't use him for FF purposes. Next week, even though it's a great matchup vs Detroit, I still don't think we'll have enough info to make him a viable FF option. If he plays well vs Detroit, we may see Caddy start practicing as the starting RB with graham working at fullback, and Dunn as 3rd down back. It still wouldn't likely be announced that he's the starter vs New Orleans, but more of a RBBC situation.

Based on how he's used and how he performs vs NO, Gruden may then finally clarify their roles, naming Caddy the starter, with Graham the fullback and Dunn the change of pace guy.

In this scenario, it wouldn't be until wek 14 vs Carolina that you could start Caddy and have a good idea as to what to expect, which would hopefully be 15-20 carries, with Graham likely getting the GL carries, and Dunn getting a handfull of carries/receptions.

I'm excited about Caddy's value down the stretch, but the reality is that we still won't know for some time what that value is. We could very well see a full blown RBBC for the rest of the year. Or, we could see Caddy come back with a vengeance, reclaim the starting role, and be a viable RB1 tearing up the rest of an nice schedule with Graham happily moving back to FB and blazing paths.

CADILLAC NOT READY TO HIT THE ROADPosted by Josh Alper on November 14, 2008, 2:37 p.m.Barring any unforeseen developments, recently activated Bucs running back Cadillac Williams won’t be part of the Bucs offense against Minnesota this weekend.“I don’t foresee him being a part of this game, but we’ll see how the next 48 hours unfolds,’’ coach Jon Gruden said. “We seem to have had some injuries at the backfield position here. But if everything goes as planned I don’t see him being active yet. But he did take another step forward this week and that’s exciting.’’Gruden told the Tampa Tribune that it would be at least another week before he’d feel comfortable putting Williams into game action. Earnest Graham will start and Warrick Dunn, who is listed as questionable, appears to be healthy enough to back him up.Alex Smith, the team’s starting tight end, won’t play, however. He hasn’t practiced at all this week and will be replaced by John Gilmore and Jerramy Stevens on Sunday.Permalink | Comments Back to Top
I think Dunn is healthy, so this isn't too big of a surprise. FWIW, my cousin said he heard on the radio yesterday that someone mention Caddy was playing like he didn't have any balls, and favoring his healthy leg. I didn't personally hear this, so I didn't post anything. For all I know it could have been speculation.

I seriously doubt that they would have taken him off of the PUP list and dropped Bennett if that was the case.

Nah...the Bucs are the enemy so I'll keep him and probably even start him if this division race stays tight.

Park the Caddy, folks: Tampa Bay Buccaneers back Cadillac Williams is not expected to dress for Week 11 and will continue to work with the practice squad for the near future. Our source says it will take a more severe injury to Earnest Graham (knee) or Warrick Dunn (back) before we see Cadillac in a chance to contribute in fantasy leagues. They see Williams as a bonus right now.

In the great Brown versus Williams debates on this board, Ronnie clearly won, but I am still pulling for Caddy to come back strong.

I stashed him on my bench in case he can help me in weeks 16 or 17, but I don't expect much from him and I wouldn't have rostered him if my bench in that league weren't exceptionally big. Short roster 12 team leagues and under, there's no way I'd use a roster spot on him. Dynasty might be a little different, but it depends on how well I believe i would do the rest of this year. Always play to win now if you can.

IF (big if) Graham's ankle keeps him out, we may see Caddy active for the Detroit game. Can't ask for a much better debut than that.
