your defense gives you 2 scores, at home against one of the league's most potent offenses. you're playing a mediocre defense to start that's missing its top 2 CBs and you go 14/32 with 0 TDs and 2 INTs? SHAM. the luck has run out.

You dare to say Pettine lost the game. He is a rookie NFL head coach who have the Cleveland Browns over .500 in December. He has coached his ### off. He is the guy who established a running game, he built up the defense while Gordon was serving a suspension for smoking pot.
The idiot WR came back, has run the wrong routes, caused interceptions, killed Hoyer, and then today? Your boi sucked again and you blame Pettine?
Don't blame Pettine. That idiot WR will be gone long before Pettine.
Now that we're out of the playoffs we can see if Manziel can even play. We know what your agenda has been and what it is today in trying to deflect blame from the moron WR to Pettine. Pettine was doing fine till that jerk came back to destroy the season.

a bit harsh, but correct. Pettine is the real deal.
Gordon has potential, but who knows if he'll ever make good on it.
i still think Shanahan's offense is too complicated and he needs to simplify it at least somewhat.

I also disagree that "Manziel wouldn't have done any better" is a fact. He wouldn't have needed a very good game to top Hoyer's today.

The only thing Manziel lacks compared to Hoyer is NFL experience. He has a stronger arm, is more accurate and more mobile.

Pettine - Not cutting bait on him. I think he is a lot of the reason we are having (had) a good season. I'll give this guy more time.

Hoyer - Gone. He has blown wayyyy too many games (the colts handed us this one and we just couldn't capitalize) and looks worse each week. He has had plenty of opportunity to right the ship and cant get it done.

With everything that's gone on this year they can't bring him back. Word is manziel and hoyer don't even talk to each other. Not really the relationship you want b/t your qb's.

Then I think a little off season reality check on Hoyer's behalf may come into play. He is a back-up QB... not his fault that he was starting, but reality has come home to roost.
Guys don't have to like each other to play together. It helps, but not a requirement.
A young qb needs a backup who will help him develop. Browns aren't going to want Hoyer back and he won't want to be there.

I just read a little more about it, it's not even real clear of how these games are being selected. Maybe FOX isn't pulling in specific games they want, I can't tell. But they are getting "extra" games to balance out the schedule with CBS having TNF games with FOX/NFC games/teams.

Are you serious man? Yes, Hoyer is done. Yes, Pettine made the wrong call today. So we should fire a coach who has taken us closer to the playoffs than anyone in years, and in his rookie season to boot? Get that junk out of here.
I'm angry that we lost this game too, but getting rid of Pettine right now would be a huge mistake. He's earned another year, easy.

I am responding to this post for two reasons. First of all, yeah, Hoyer needs to hit the bench and let Johnny take a crack at it. I am traditionally one of the slowest people to go against the starter and call for the rookie backup, but it's officially time. I was ok with Hoyer getting the start this week, but woulda been ok with Johnny. Right now I will not be ok if Hoyer starts next week.
And yeah, rather than say "Hoyer is 10-5 as a starter", I rather say "The Browns happen to be 10-5 with Hoyer starting".
The second reason I am responding is because of your sig. That EM quote is, umm, what the hell is he talking about there?

Gut punch loss for Browns fans. The defense absolutely deserved a win for that effort. Cundiff, Gordon, Hoyer.
Haden a great first half. T.Y. treated him like his ##### in the 2nd half.
Better team won, but there were a half dozen what ifs that could have tilted this to an easy win for Cleveland. I like Pettine, have to give him a lot of credit for getting them this far. This could be a building block season. Setting the playoff possibility aside - with their conference record it would take a certified miracle scenario - this next few weeks are mighty important to the future of this team.
Hope Manziel has a good run. I don't think he's ready and I suspect the nuances of NFL quarterback are way beyond his work ethic. But I hope I'm wrong, not because I own or like him, but only because Cleveland deserves a winner.

Probably right, but Haden had the coverage on the 42 yard TD and the 1 yard game winner. He also forced a Hilton fumble and basically shut down T.Y. in the first half. The job the Browns did on those first six possessions was amazing (five punts, strip/fumble TD).

After K'Waun got hurt I pretty much exclusively watched who Gilbert was covering. Was kinda cool to see an interception happening before it happened. Anyway, throughout the first 2+ quarters there was absolutely no one open, anywhere. The one that broke open deep (Moncrief?) but Luck short armed him was the only receiver I saw break free at any point. After K'Waun got hurt? Luck just kept going after Gilbert and often times Hilton was on the receiving end. Yeah, Haden gave up the scoring plays, but it wouldn't surprise me if every one of his other yards were vs. Gilbert.

Alright... I've let the anger settle and watched the game again.. which brought more anger... but Ive simmered and returned with thoughts on the game and my previous statements.
#1 - Pettine should be fired - I said that. I partially meant it at the time. After watching the game again, I still partially mean it. Pettine comes with a lot of good. He makes the team fight, earn their place, we have a winning record and we look like a legit team.... on defense.
Pettine, while being the catalyst of bringing us to the small chance of making the playoffs, has also cost us a shot at the playoffs. Single-handedly. Watching Hoyer for the 2nd time yesterday made me sick to my stomach. Knowing the outcome, and then watching him cost us the game over and over with inaccurate passes. I rewatched 2 surefire TDs go to waste, overthrowing benji and gordon. I watched countless passes into the dirt, or to nobody.
That's on Pettine. I didnt agree with starting Hoyer this week, but at least I could see how he justified it. What I cannot justify is leaving him in past the first quarter... Ok, maybe you wanna give him a little more of a chance to get into the flow... but after the 2nd quarter, the fact Hoyer came onto the field was an absolute travesty and THAT cost us our season perhaps.
Manziel didnt play a snap. And that is 110% wrong. I was against drafting him. I dont necessarily like him. But not playing him cost us a win, imo. And now, likely the season.
note: I want Pettine to stay... but the guy eneds to clean up the QB situation NOW, and clean up his clock management.. it's embarrassing.
#2 - Gordon - First drive he look poised to have a big day. Hoyer hits him quick and he turns what would be no gain for 99% of WRs into 9yds.. Beauty. Then the targets seemed to dim. He dropped a pass. Was overthrown for a sure TD (how one even overthrows gordon of all ppl, is mindboggling), and then on the final drive, he dropped a tough pass that he should have caught. Yes, it was a tough ### catch, but in that moment, in that desperation, you need to catch it. Plain and simple. Terrible game.
#3 - The Defense. - I dont need to spend much time on this. Perhaps the best Defense Ive seen the Browns play... in ages. It was superb, and they got slapped by a completely inept Browns offense. I worry the defense might put this on Pettine for not making any effort to spark the offense. I hope not.
#4 - The Crow - This kid needs to be our lead dog. Like 20-25 touch kinda dog. The vision is so beautiful to watch. The power w which he hits the hole, after making a filthy cut... It's majestic. I like West, but I think he's a compliment piece.... and I have NO idea what the announcer was going on about, re: how the Browns clearly favor West... That's a load of BS to me. The Crow is going to be $$$ for us.
... it was a heartbreaking loss. A lot of folks need to take responsibility on this. None of them are on defense.

I'm not a believer in Manziel, but the word 'haters' is very much valid here. He's not getting a chance, and quite a bit of media are turning into tabloid journalists over this guy. It's a shame.

During the pregame show yesterday they made a point to comment that by the time Manziel showed up for the game, Hoyer had already been there for two (2) hours putting work in. They said that this wasn't anything unusual and just part of Manziel's "normal" routine. So I wondered why they mentioned it? Maybe they report on every back-up QB in the NFL and I just happened to miss it?
All I can think is that the CLE coaching staff must feel that Johnny Football is just not ready for the NFL yet.
