Didn't look like Lafell caught that ball going out of bounds near the end of the game. Thought it hit the ground.

Will take the win though. :)

Wallace gives the Browns the best chance to win now, while developing McCoy gives them their best chance to win in the future. If they're playing Delhomme simply because they don't want to admit their $7mm mistake, shame on them. Who cares if he's playing his former team.I thought Lafell's catch was called correctly. It's about time we get a break- seems like kickers always knock those through against us. And it's nice to beat a team (even if it is the Panthers) when we're not at our best.

Mangini said early in the week that Delhomme would star because of his familiarity with Carolina, their defense, etc.
 
Delhomme looked like he was drunk on a few of those plays.

hate to say it, but if Colt had been able to start, i think they win the game by two touchdowns.

 
When I was watching this game, and when I watched the Browns against the Jets, I was impressed by the play of their NT, Rubin (sp?). What do Browns homers think of him? Is he going to be a Brown long term?

 
Kind of went under the radar, but our 5th rounder, Larry Asante, was claimed by Tampa off the practice squad. They also cut Clifton Smith, so hopefully that means Cribbs will be near full speed this week. Either that, or Haden will be returning KO's and punts.

i believe Smith fumbled one of his returns. wouldn't be surprised if that was part of the reason he was cut.

i'll take my chances with Delhomme over DA.also, while i thought Wallace did an OK job when he was in, i think defenses still have to respect Delhomme more, so it opens more things up for the run game.i don't think Delhomme gets benched for one INT. if (when?) he throws two, there is a strong possibility he gets benched. depends how bad they look.

can they do it?

i think if he somehow beats the Ravens and Steelers at home to end the season, they would have a very hard time firing him.

(i think they will probably split those two.)

 
Bills and Bengals are certainly beatable, but they are road games.

i think the Browns end with at least 7 wins.

 
I see them winning two of the remaining four. 7-9 should keep Mangini's job. I hope so, this is an actual team, with improvement that goes beyond the record. I'd like to have seen them win a couple of those they lost, but they're learning how to win.

If Delhomme starts all four I'd be hard pressed to believe we'll be any better than 5-11.I'm still trying to figure out how we've won the last 2, been some pretty awful football since Colt went down.
 
Here are my Larry King style thoughts:

I see 7-8 wins as well. Buffalo lost 2 OL starters yesterday. As long as Wright stays on the bench, they can deal with Fitzpatrick. I suspect we'll see alot of amoeba defense next week since Buffalo isn't a strong running team. They should beat Cincy, and I think they will win one of the Pit/Balt games.

As for the offense, Daboll is still an 'effing idiot, and needs to go the day after the season ends, if not sooner. Maybe RRyan will eat him on the bus ride to Buffalo.

One thing I would love to see, that I don't think they've run at all, is some 22 personnel groupings with Hillis, Vickers, Watson, and Moore on the field at the same time. 3rd and 5 or less, and it gives them a ton of run/play-action options.

I know Moore got dinged yesterday, but even before that we barely saw him on the field, and he has better hands than any of our WR's. Dude needs more minutes.

I'm so tired of seeing routes that are turned 2 yards short of the sticks.

Delhomme looked way worse than his stat line would indicate, but at least he didn't turn the ball over (Thank you Miami CB!)

If not for Hillis, Hodges would be the team MVP. Glad they re-upped him for two more years.

Haden was phenomenal. Granted, he was burned badly on the play that he ultimately intercepted, but the guy was everywhere. I freely admit that I was wrong about him at draft time.

I think they're gonna have to have a really bad month for Holmgren to fire Mangini. I'd still be on board with a Chucky move probably...even though I don't dislike Mangini. The QB situation sorta blurs everything for me though. Something isn't right trotting Delhomme out there. Maybe my gap is too narrow in the Delhomme vs Wallace passing debate and who helps the running game more....I'm not sure. But I'd like to know what the real reasons are because Delhomme almost did it AGAIN late yesterday. Actually, he did, the CB just dropped it.

but i don't get that, since part of the reason they lost was because of Delhomme, who was Holmgren's decision.

Daboll's definitely done, even if they keep Mangini.

A win this week and one against Baltimore and Pittsburgh and those comments from the talking heads will be long forgotten.We need Colt back, end of story.
 
yeah, Mangini is screwed.

i don't think it's fair, and i really would like to see him back for one more year, but i think he's gone.

you just can't lose to two 2 win teams and expect to hang on to your job.

This is pretty much where I am at. I really really want them to hang onto Mangini but it would surprise me if they did. I think if Holmgren looks at the big picture instead of Ws and Ls he would be wise.

Only topic worth discussing is Mangini, and the talkers are pushing it.

IMO, the man came into a situation where there was little talent and crappy attitude on the team. Both have improved, but we're still lacking. (Who is our top wr & where would he rank in the NFLs top 50?) Who has more talent, Browns or Bengals? Why couldn't Ryan stop the Cinci running game? Honestly, who has more talent, Browns or Bills?

Mangini has the team heading in the right direction. We still need a game-changing WR, help on the DL, another cb, and another OL. Let's see what sort of results he could get with good talent against an average schedule!

:rolleyes: There is no way to defend that game. Lack of talent doesn't get you a 41-9 beatdown- that's heart. Mangini is gone. He's made decent progress but clearly not enough.

 
Looking at the bright side, the Browns have the 5/6 pick (T-ARZ at 5-11) in the 2011 Draft. I'll be interested to see if they opt for one of the top QBs there or settle on Colt as their guy.

McCoy concluded what started as a very promising rookie season with losses of 20-10 to Baltimore and 41-9 to Pittsburgh in cold weather in Cleveland Browns Stadium. In those two games, he completed 35 of 70 passes for 358 yards for one touchdown and had six interceptions. His passer rating was 34.1 against the two playoff rivals.

The last mock I saw had Auburn QB Cam Newton going at #6 to the 49ers. The 49ers won today bumping them down, and the Browns now own that pick. This is a good spot for the Browns. Now they can evaluate Colt McCoy and determine if he can make all the throws. If they decide he can't, they could select a QB with a strong arm at #6. If they really believe McCoy is a franchise QB, then the Browns could trade down in the first round with someone who really wants Newton and stockpile draft picks. The #6 pick will be valuable because of Newton. Holmgren is the QB guru, and there might not be a better guy to have making the call on this.

The Browns only invested a 3rd round pick in McCoy.

:lmao: Even though I thought he had a good season, I though Ben Watson quit on some plays. Bottom line is, they didn't show up to compete yesterday.Does the off-season thread start somewhere else now that Mangini is gone?

?? Although I like Colt ALOT and was pleasantly surprised at how well he did considering being a rookie, If Cam is there you HAVE to go get him. The guy is special, has great size and big arm which Colt does not. Colt could be a very good QB in the NFL but I highly doubt his ceiling is anywhere near Cams. As for Green WR's are scary to draft in the 1st. Id rather invest 1st round money into a "stud QB" like Cam then a WR. We need to sign a solid vet there. If we do not draft DE Clayborn here then I say the pick has to be Cam. Screw needs.. you go get the best football player available period. **If CLE signs Gruden as HC then its probably safe to bet Colt is here to stay as Gruden is rumored to be the main driving force to Holmgren drafting him..(per Sig B tweet today). Im not a Gruden to CLE fan fwiw.. Give me Fisher!!
