So I know a lot of you listen to the same CLE radio I do. Jim Donovan was just on and said Justin Gilbert reported for the Houston game at 11:45am. That was a 1pm home game. And he is probably the one they keep out of the three stooges (Manziel/Gordon/Gilbert). It was an interesting 1/2 hour, with the season being over the gloves are off.

That was an interesting talk with Donovan. I'm also annoyed by Hoyer leading the "Gordon Ruined the Season" train. This apparently came straight from a 1 on 1 conversation between Donovan and Hoyer. Hoyer, and the Browns, sucked plenty before Gordon returned IMO. They were also had good games, I'm not denying that. Gordon didn't do the team any favors upon his return, that is true, but Hoyer comes off as a big baby in the 2nd half of the season to me.

I'm in Cincy and don't get much of Browns coverage here except for a game or two out of Dayton. Link to the station where I can listen, or perhaps a podcast? These three fools have me shaking my head. Did they say anything specific out of JFF or Gordon being traded, or is this more of a gut feeling you have after listening? Gordon being suspended gives the Browns one more year with him under contract, correct? Was that move partially to salvage part of his contract, or make him more desireable for a trade (two years at a low rate vs one)?

In all seriousness, what specifically is going on with Gilbert? I just don't understand. Is it basically that he thinks he can steal that $12 mil guaranteed and just not play football after that? Does he feel like he should be starting and is pouting? Is it that he doesn't like how many meetings there are in the NFL?

There are so many lines being printed about this kid yet nothing is actually saying what the damn problem is.

He's an athletic freak, but wasn't ever taught how to play corner back. I think he's probably instinctively resisting putting in the work to be great since he never has needed to before. That is why I didn't want him, but I'd be lying if I said I expected it to be this bad.

He has the raw skills, speed, athleticism, and length, to turn into an exceptional NFL CB. He flashed some this year but the book is he's consistently late for practice and workouts and it seems he's resistant to criticism and the position takes some adjusting to the NFL game.He was a top ten draft pick and was considered the best at his position by many scouts and NFL front offices' and he heard that and knows how good he can be but it seems he lost track at some point after he inked his contract.

Look at Joe Haden this year, he look terrible for the first half but he put it together and was playing at a high level at the end.

The kid has better raw skills than Joe so I'm not writing him off yet. I think Pettine and O'Brien can work with him but its up to him to transform himself into an exceptional player and I don't know how far he'll push himself. Right now he's not making the effort so I'm fine with the criticism but he has the skill and I think he's got the coaching in place and he can make the effort but its up to him.

Manziel on the other hand, I don't think he's got the raw skill and his position requires more than just raw skill and effort, maturity plays a big role if he expects to be a leader.

The good thing heading into this offseason is Haslett has announced he will keep Pettine and Farmer and he's backing them over Josh Gordon.

Don't know how Farmer stays since he's responsible for the circus going on. Seems weird to freak out on all the players and not the GM that took them despite knowing they all had these concerns.

During the draft everyone figured Gilbert was who Pettine wanted and Manziel was who Haslam wanted.

Maybe Farmer didn't have everything to do with those 2 picks. They can still become good players. Many first rounders struggle early in their careers then improve. The talent is there. Whether they have what it takes inside themselves and between the ears is what remains to be seen. Doesn't look good now though.

If that's the problem then it seems the coaching staff needs to learn what it takes to coach this guy up. Not everyone takes criticism well. That's why you have to coach everyone differently. If he needs kid gloves on to be an outstanding CB, then put them on. The job of the coach is to do whatever it takes to make sure his guys succeed. They can't make him do it, but they need to find a way to reach him.

Couple of reasons, first being mentioned by the poster before me, I don't know that Gilbert & Manziel can be 100% laid at Farmers feet. Certainly not the Manziel pick.If you look at the remainder of Farmers draft I'd have to say it came out as a solid B+:

2nd Round: OG Joel Bitonio - arguably one of if not the best rookie OL drafted

3rd Round: ILB Christian Kirksey - played well & should continue to develop with veteran leadership on D

3rd Round: RB Terrance West - servicable RB that needs to get his head out of his ###

4th Round: CB Pierre Desir - outplayed the #4 pick in the draft until he was hurt in week 3. Oh, that pick was Justin Gilbert...####

Second, at some point, you have to stop the endless regime carousal the Browns have been on since 1999. I think Farmer & Pettine are a good foundation and I hope they mature as well as their players. Pettine has an opportunity to put a stamp on this team now that the first year is behind and I think, for the most part, he has the respect of the team. If I were him I would argue vehemently that Gordon has to go and I wouldn't be shy about throwing Manziel into that mix as well. Gilbert has the raw talent but he needs to get his head focused on football. My opinions, poke holes as needed.

But yeah, when you barely win any games, a slight uptick looks huge.

One of the issues with Gordon stems from when he was drafted.

He came into camp like he had arrived.

The vets on defense were like "you got drafted and haven't done anything yet"

He had a sense of entitlement and that combined with his poor work ethic have strained his relationship with the leaders on defense.

I see solid improvement from years past. Former teams would have rolled over @pitt and @ten after those 1stH's. We won divisional games. We weren't the ones embarrassed on primetime nat'l tv. I'm sure I'm missing a few things.

Now we have an offseason to address certain depth issues, get Mack back, hopefully select 2 impact 1st rounders and get the damn qb thing solved.

not everyone is coachable. It looks like we have two legit corners selected day three and in free agency. This staff developed and coached both of them up. Gilbert not and them doing so has the finger pointed only at Gilbert.

the crash landing at the end more than offsets that, want to see a team on the upswing. We certainly did not. Schedule next year likely brutal too. Need some friendly matchups early on or it could be trouble.

I have no problem with JFF being at a club in South Beach when he has no football obligations. If he's not getting arrested or doing illegal drugs, what is the difference? How many other NFL players not in the playoffs were out having some fun the past few days?

I am NOT defending JFF being late on Saturday of game weekend for treatment or whatever his duties were, nor do I think he should be out partying Friday night during the season, and very limited during the "entire football season". But the local media is out to hang this guy and in turn bring more turmoil to the Browns than is needed.

I don't disagree but you have to be aware of your presence. You can't keep saying I'm going to work hard to do the right thing, I need to work harder, etc and then go right from the podium to Hopkins and at a club in 2 hours. He can sure talk the talk but you all know as well as I do, Cleveland is a blue collar town that embraces hard work. He is not walking the walk.

And I thought Farmer did a good job of shrugging it off saying something to the effect that Johnny will draw attention no matter where he is and no matter if he has a bottle of water or vodka in his hand. I still think it's a bad look given all that has transpired in the last week.

Does anyone know all the options the Browns have? I know we can block if it's lateral and have no choice if it's promotion, but.....

If it's lateral, can we request compensation (or does the league just give us compensation)? Does it have to be negotiated between the teams?

And Grove, I don't think the Browns would block anything if he wants to leave. Nor should they. I have a feeling they'll be out West together anyways, not in Buffalo.

Shanahan did his best to bring Manziel up to speed, but it was evident he wasn't ready to play when he started against the Bengals, and flopped miserably.

Vic Carrucci is reporting that if the Bills hired Mike and Kyle, it would be Mike as HC and Kyle as OC (which was contrary to previous reports having Mike as GM and Kyle as HC).As a Bills fan, I would prefer the Browns block that. You can keep him. Not impressed with either Shanahan.

Does anyone know all the options the Browns have? I know we can block if it's lateral and have no choice if it's promotion, but.....

If it's lateral, can we request compensation (or does the league just give us compensation)? Does it have to be negotiated between the teams?

If it's a promotion to HC...same questions.

And Grove, I don't think the Browns would block anything if he wants to leave. Nor should they. I have a feeling they'll be out West together anyways, not in Buffalo.

If the Bills wanted Kyle as the OC, the Browns could either agree to just release him, or could force the Bills to give up something in a trade for him. (Or block it and force Kyle to remain there). If the Bills offer him the HC job, there is nothing the Browns could do to block it and they would get no compensation.

Outside of the Browns I'd like to see the Bills succeed and I would be leery of any Mike/Kyle Shanahan combo if I were a Buffalo fan. Also I don't know if Kyle is HC material and right now I highly doubt he's ready to be an NFL head coach.

The reason I am leery of any Mike/Kyle Shanahan combination is because Mike Shanahan wants control over personnel and that automatically creates friction with the front office and the coaching staff. Not good.

Per Kyle not being happy? Boo hoo, too ####### bad. I don't care if he's happy or not, he's under contract and no one should hire him as a HC IMHO. I honestly don't think he's ready and have doubts he's HC material. I would go with Rex Ryan if I'm the Bills, that would make sense on many levels and then they should try to uncover an up-and-coming OC.

I don't know what they can do at QB though, that is a tough one and the Browns are in the same boat trying to find a QB but the Bills should not consider Kyle or Mike Shanahan IMHO. I think it would be a very bad move over the long run even if they could paste on a fake face the first year. It would be like the Kyle Orton signing. A waste of time and it gave a false sense that they were closer than reality. It gave them one or two more wins but it hurts them more in the end because they didn't even try to address the long-term need at QB and they're in worse shape due to signing Orton so any chemistry he had worked out with Sammy and the coaching staff is lost and they pick later in the second round and still need a QB, argh.
