Ignored this record a bit in 94, played THE SHIZ outta it in 95 (along with everyone else) Went from very decorated then, to highly underrated today. You can find it in any used CD bin today for sho.

Timing has been perfect two days in a row. Come up right as the school day ends. I had to draft some jazz so that’s Louis and some folk in Fairport- a band that was introduced to me just recently in a draft. Good stuff.

Did you discover Fairport Convention in the British Isles dummy countdown?

Love these picks.
Yes I do believe it was that one. It was very recent so it must be that.

12 - Keane - Somewhere Only We Know

A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K and T

Great song. I always forget about them. I think K4 took them in one of the Dummy countdowns and I vowed to re-discover them. I will this time for sure.

I did take that song in the British Isles dummy countdown. Love it!

Keane always were proud of their no guitars allowed mantra. Makes for soothing beautiful music.

I seem to have stumbled upon a theme on my list, charismatic and talented vocalists matching up with control freak songwriters. Guess its reasonably common

With Keane, Tom Chaplin and his lovely voice was busting to do his own material, but Tim Rice-Oxley was more than dismissive in implying that Chaplin coudnt write a song worthy of a B Side. Chaplin gets frustrated and leaves. Band reunites when Rice-Oxley proven right

Dave Gahan butts heads with Martin Gore in Depeche Mode. Gore got thrust into the songwriter role when Vince Clarke abruptly left and was possessive of the sound he curated. Gahan wanted his songs heard. During a “break” Gahan gets his stuff out. Gore slightly more welcoming of Gahans stuff in future, lets him have a few songs

The fights between Amy Lee and Ben Moody of Evanescence is the stuff of movies. Lee won this battle and Moody left. Material suffered greatly though

Teras for Fears. Roland Orzabal wrote great songs, but lacked confidence as a vocalist. Enter Curt Smith to sing Mad World, Pale Shelter etc, while the more impassioned songs on Suffer the Children like Memories Fade and Ideas as Opiates, show the skill Orzabal had. As Orzabal got more confidence when Shout became a huge hit, Smith got less and less vocal work leading to frustration. Smith couldnt write for **** though. Their dynamic led to animosity and a long term split. Orzabal led essentially solo TFF albums for years, but the Smith led somgs sound totally different with Orzabal singing them and he needs Smiths voice on the poppier numbers.

Oasis is another fun one to talk about in this style too, but their not on my island so **** em. Same with the Clash.

Hopefully Steve Tasker gets back to us with some more picks soon.
An alternative plan is in place should someone not get to 20 picks. Their artists will not be thrown back into the pool

RD 13: "E" - Brian Eno - Baby's On Fire

I almost went a couple songs off this album ..."Cindy Tells Me" or "Needles In The Camel's Eye" - this entire album is so great, really wish he would have continued this path.

yeah, his instrumental, ethereal stuff is interesting - but I'd much rather hear several albums like this one at least mixed in ...
I almost went with “Driving Me Backwards”

Faraway Beach - and that guitar solo by Fripp on Blank Frank are killer too
