pretty much a perfect song
I had the year open for this cover of it. Not sure if you're familiar with Walt Mink, but IMO this is a great version of the song
pretty much a perfect song
Just lost my dog to cancer a couple of weeks ago so hat video was brutally beautiful for me. Nice song too and new to me. Thanks!Round 20
Avicii, Waiting for Love (2015)
Haven't kept up with music quite as much in the last few years, so my picks for, say, 2013-2015 are more poppy, and I'm fine with that. Avicii has some fantastic pop singles, and while I prefer a couple others from previous years, this one's damn solid. The animated video, with art by Guillaume Singelin, is also fantastic.

I am fine. Evidently my esophagus has some damage and food gets stuck in there once in awhile. Usually can force it out, but last night I had a few hours of not being able to swallow anything. Ended up at the ER getting a scope down the gullet to move it along. Got some lovely meds and a 3 week soft food diet for my troubles. Nothing super serious..Mrs. Rannous said:Especially when you aren't that old. Hope all is well.
Aerial Assault said:JZilla > you owe picks for Rounds 15, 16, 17
Love these picks!Aerial Assault said:20.a Seven Mary Three, "Cumbersome" (1995)
This amazing track has been called "the best Pearl Jam song ever" and drawn similar praise for these unfortunately one-hit wonders who met while attending William & Mary. This is a perfect "post-grunge" song, lacking only the Fender Rhodes or Hammond B-3 part that I adore in this sort of music, but the lyrics of this one are so fascinating that it doesn't really matter. The guitar part somehow straddles between sounding like it was recorded in a garage on a four-track and coming off as slickly produced, and there are a few unexpected musical flourishes, especially toward the end. As a bonus, any song with a bass break (here at 2:25) automatically gets my attention, but here it's accompanied by lyrics that sound like something out of science fiction ("There is a balance between two worlds/One with an arrow and a cross/Regardless of the balance life has become/Cumbersome) and the interlude ends with a screaming pick slide. Love it.
20.b Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band, "Blue on Black" (1997)
Sounding like a fusion between Nirvana and Dylan with a wailing blues-tinged guitar solo to make Stevie Ray Vaughn proud, this song seems to have influenced about 90% of what you hear sung by male vocalists on modern country radio. The hooks are simple but gripping, the lyrics dealing with regret over a breakup are powerful, and the vocal is understated yet impactful. I'm a little surprised this one was still available, but I'm not complaining; I've been looking for a reason to listen to this song again for many years. Mad props to that fantastic lead guitar sound that Shepherd pulls off, including just enough of the edge of the pick when required to attack certain notes.
I enjoy Good News... and We Were Dead... but there is no doubt that The Moon & Antarctica is a masterpiece. For some reason, I thought it was released in 2001 but by the time I bothered to make sure I had already made my 2000 selection otherwise this probably would have been my pick too.20.xx Modest Mouse - 3rd Planet (2000)
Like U2, MM's last 2-3 albums have been disappointing. But this song is from arguably my favorite album of this century thus far.
No surprise, but love these picks as well. Looking forward to listening to stuff I haven't heard off your mix.19.20 Metallica - Welcome Home (Sanitarium) (1986)
19.20 Echo and the Bunnymen - The Killing Moon (1984)
No surprise, but love these picks as well. Looking forward to listening to stuff I haven't heard off your mix.
Yeah, the video is killer. My condolences, bud, and nice pick with "The Killing Moon".Just lost my dog to cancer a couple of weeks ago so hat video was brutally beautiful for me. Nice song too and new to me. Thanks!
Yeah, the video is killer. My condolences, bud, and nice pick with "The Killing Moon".
Love that whole Soul Asylum album.
:(Can't wait to use my mulligan. That Motley Crue song is just an awful hicup in my 80's decade.
Not that I don't love it. Probably my favorite hair metal ballad. Its just that I shifted gears and it doesn't seem to fit.:(
What's wrong with that Crue song?
Fair enough. I might have to replace it with another Crue song then. Not that I don't love it. Probably my favorite hair metal ballad. Its just that I shifted gears and it doesn't seem to fit.
I like these picks.Had trouble with the mid 1990s, so here are round 18...
1995 - The Gin Blossoms - 'Til I Hear it from You
1997 - 3am - Matchbox Twenty
I'm trying to see if I can do this without going outside the 1966-2015 range.

Thanks, dude! I told you our tastes overlapped a bit.Love these picks!
I want to stick with those parameters as well.I'm trying to see if I can do this without going outside the 1966-2015 range.
99 was awfully tough. I ended up listening to about 100 songs, most of which I had never heard. Lily Allen really bailed me out. I dig her tune I picked. Whew.I like these picks.
I am trying to do this as well, but that '98/'99 combo is still staring at me without many ideas I like.
Really like it too, but I would be fine not hearing that 3rd track ever again.Love that whole Soul Asylum album.
I was going to pick this song but then I got high.Every juke needs a novelty tune and this one fits one of my sub-themes.
20ee. Crazy Rap (Colt 45 & Two Zig-zags) - Afroman - 2001
This is the video but it has about 20% of the words bleeped out
both links are for the offspring song.Catching up slowly - these late '90s through the 2000s are way out of my wheelhouse.
18a: "Pretty Fly (For A White Guy) - The Offspring (1998)
2nd best "gunter glieben glauchen globen" out there, but a good tune nonetheless
18b: "Race For The Stars" - The Flaming Lips (1999)
This is 15-17, double picks and all
I had already updated my picks, so they were entered twice for the 18th round. FixedThe Sheet is updated to here
Going to the Rangers game tonight
