DI Jukebox Draft (66-15)- Listen up (1 Viewer)

Going back to this, has there been another living artist who put out an album so critically acclaimed as this and never released another studio LP? Won the Grammy for AOTY, hit #1 in 3 countries, top 10 in 13 countries, 8x platinum in the US alone. Kinda amazing when you look back on it. She had such success with the Fugees and then blew up with her solo album.....then disappeared, went to prison, released some live material and scattered random singles and has really been nowhere to be found in the last 10 years or so.
Being labeled as an eccentric genius is a better career move than the old sophomore album jinx. Terrence Trent d'Arby discovered this fact about four albums too late.
I suppose that is kinda true. Every time she releases a random single the hype is crazy. Maybe not a bad way to go if you can make money on it.

6th round picks

Glen Campbell - Rhinestone Cowboy - 1975 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8kAU3B9Pi_U#action=share
I was just singing this song yesterday!!
There can never be enough Glen Campbell in a music draft.
You saw the recent documentary on him ...right? The that focused on his alzheimer's? Reminded me of how good he was. He wasn't cool in those days - but I kind of grew up with his music - my mom played it a lot on the big console stereo.
Unfortunately I missed the doc and didn't get a chance to record. Have to see if it's on again.

Nice pick with the Green Day. Was really eyeing that one up before going with the Muse song. Figured I need to ease up on the 10min songs in my mix.

Not sure who TOd since TIm, but I would guess we are at eephus by now? I think LD is an autoskip too.

Just trying to give PIK his fix....
Thanks . Have been sitting here waiting to go
Looks like Tim picked about 2 hours ago, so you can go and we are technically up to eephus then.

I kind of like the pace we're moving at now. I have time to sample all the music. It's like a box of chocolates- you never know what you're gonna get.
Do you listen to the mixes at the end then too?

I guess I am opposite, I get antsy because I wait until the end to listen to the mixes and songs that I don't know. I just fill the time by obsessing too much over my picks.

My daughter was in American Idiot last summer , hated the songs when it was over

2003- Beyoncé- Crazy In Love
Great song.
Anybody have any thoughts on the Super Bowl halftime?

I'm not a Coldplay fan but I thought it was pretty entertaining all things considered.
I am usually meh on the SB shows. I would rather them do a couple full songs than 2 min clips of songs for 15mins. Just get into a song, and here's another one...
Not sure I'd even want to see a Super Bowl halftime show where I really liked the music. I appreciate the execution of the event more than any artistic fruit that it bears. Just wow people, baby!

I could go for another Prince performance though.

Sorry one more thought on the halftime show... Coldplay teased playing their best song and then played one of their worst songs instead at the end, though only the instrumental part... that was disappointing.

So we basically got through one round on a slow monday. I should be able to keep a better eye on the clock tomorrow.

Maybe Simey can post her skiplist and ill take better note.

8.28 Dontcha - The Internet (2013)

I think Tasker also ranked The Internet's 2015 album in NV's poll. I think it was a big step forward for them but Dontcha from the last album has a great bassline that'll hopefully won't cause the jukebox to skip.
Wow, that's a great freaking pick. Very Jackson Five-esque. I love the closeups of the drummer, bassist, and keyboardist (but oddly not the clearly audible guitarist) playing their instruments. Terrific voice.

I sample during and after. Sometimes, the second hearing is more revealing if I didn't like a song the first time through. Some songs take time.

My dive bar jukebox is seriously lacking in southern rock. Time to remedy that.

1971- Allman Brothers Band- One Way Out (live at the Filmore East)

1973- Lynyrd Skynyrd Simple Man
Nice double shot of Heaven Hill there.

A few years ago, I went to funeral services for the wife of a colleague from work. I'd met the woman a couple of times but went to pay my respects. After the sermon, her son walked to the front with a boombox and turned on "Simple Man". There was no explanation of the song's significance to the deceased just the song itself. And in the words of Patterson Hood "you know it's a very very long song".

I listened to the Zilla megamix playlist while prepping dinner tonight. Some very odd segues but enjoyable nonetheless. That Patto song is pretty wild. I didn't expect it to build like that.

I listen during, then try to after but inevitably only make it through about half the mixes... and that's when they're only 20 songs long.

and speaking of artists with one album

8.28b You Get What You Give - New Radicals (1998)

but what an album
 to both of these. The Internet is very underrated, I noticed you had rated them too. And I actually had that New Radicals CD. Ah, physical media....been awhile.

At this point, I hope I am going to get sniped a bit. Having a hard time choosing which 80's tunes (even excluding ones I have chosen in previous drafts).
