DI Jukebox Draft (66-15)- Listen up (2 Viewers)

Fight like high school nerds like to fight. No fisticuffs witnessed. I did hear about the geek guy who was organizing the line, put his hands on a girl in the pit, when she wouldn't move from his spot. That seemed to be a big controversy and she actually got kicked out.

It would be fun to see Hank, Jr open for them and watch the fights between the two fan bases . I saw HWJr in the 80s and saw more blood spilled amongst the fans than I've seen in all of my horror-moving-watching combined.

The most d-bag fans I have ever witnessed at a show was at an Allman Brothers Band concert. It was a pack of frat boys that were obnoxious as hell. Also, I don't think ABB fans are obnoxious, just that group of people that happened to be at that particular show.

One consequence of going to college in the early 90s is that you'd get frat boys slam dancing inappropriately to anything. I mean, the Dave Matthew Band is playing the "Lake Quake" in front of a dorm and "Sean" is up there in front throwing bows.

Thursday rules discussion:

1. keep the Wednesday rules

2. submit one pick in the AM and two in the PM

3. submit two picks in AM and two in PM

I almost got in a brawl at a Dan Band show. During a certain Bangles cover, a drunk girl is doing that move where they push and shove their way to the front and she trips over my foot. She stumbles, I try to catch her by the arm and she says I tried to trip her. No man I was trying to save you... she throws her sticky girly drink on my chest. She leaves, I end up wet, sticky (not in a good way), and irritated.

About 10 minutes later she comes back with her ~5'8 boyfriend who is in full on aggro mode. "YOU TRY TO HURT MY GIRLFRIEND PUNK?" I and the three other 6'+ guys in our group turn around and he gets up in my face. My bros pull him off as he is spitting and cursing whilst an Abba medley is now being played by the Dan Band about ten feet away. The bouncers are on it quick and escort me and my friends toward an exit and him and his girlfriend toward a different exit and we miss the last few songs of the show.

I just want to reiterate that this was at a DAN BAND CONCERT. Yes, dude I am so fired up from listening to grown men covering 80s and 90s women power ballads that I just needed to start a mosh pit by tripping and throwing your tiny drunk girlfriend around.

Good times at the House of Blues.

Wait just a Gol Darned minute........

I thought The Cult was like one of those dark, moody bands about suicide. "Love Removal Machine" is playing right now. Were they - dare I say it - HAIR? Because that's what it sounds like to me. Who am I confusing them with? The Church?

Love Removal Machine was produced by Rick Rubin like they were an AC/DC tribute band.

The Cult is not at all dark or moody. They were, at least, hair adjacent. I think a bit more in the classic rock vein. With lots of goofy psychedelic Doors inspired lyrics.

Web spreadsheet is missorted...please fix!

Would making the second pic for each person something like 1.1 make resorting the sheet easier? Then you can sort by round and pic and it should go smoothly...

Memphis in May fest all the frat boys yelling at Paula Cole to shave her pits. Dave Matthews at Jazz Fest had a large mount of dooshes too.

Thanks for the info, scoob and eephus. I pretty much dropped out of the rock scene in the 80s after I heard Billy Joel's ####### "____" (if this is spotlighting and someone else steals it from you, you deserve to be sniped for this piece of garbage) on DC101. Of course, I caught a lot of 80s Rock by osmosis, but the deeper stuff I missed. Funk had dried up, too. So, I tucked my head in my shell for a decade or so and listened to my records or oldies stations.

I don't recall mid-80s funk and R&B being that bad at the time. But listening to it with 21st century ears hasn't been great. Bands ditched their horns and guitars and went into full synth mode. The cheesy 80s synths and drum machines that have been reclaimed by hipsters lose something when used without irony. Even Jam & Lewis who I thought were really good back then were guilty of it.

Losing the Paisley Park catalog on Spotify also takes a big bite out of my soul/dancey mix.

que?
oh... you don't want to even imagine what goes on at the front of U2 concerts.

the wife is a huge fan- we went to 3 shows one year (when they had "the heart" stage) and waited all day to get in the heart. the other people on that line were ####### awful. so that whole story above makes complete sense to me. one of the shows, Kings of Leon opened for them back when they were still an unknown indie band. needless to say, these U2 fan-nazis bogarting the front of the stage couldn't have been any more rude... turned backs the whole time, completely ignoring the band. you waited 8 hours on a sidewalk, but now you can't be bothered to pay attention for 45 minutes?

The Cult were this goth band in the Uk, a la The Cure initially.

They got away with it for She Sells Sanctuary, but when they did the album with Rick Rubin, UK journalists almost to a man thought it was a pastiche. The band didnt like it when the journos told them it was a great joke.

All but two or three of the mainstream 70s funk bands had died by the early 80s, and those two or three radically changed their sound to fit the post-disco/New Wave era. I'm not complaining, but that gut-bucket/quirky funk sound was done for a while (& forever as a mainstream thing.

Maybe The Cure is who I was confusing them with.

anything you could possible want sorted, I have already done with sheets on the bottom of the spreadsheet. Im sure we can revert it back to an earlier version with little effort to re enter stuff. But im not sure if anyone can revert or only eephs

Back when the Cult was called Southern Death Cult, they looked and sounded the part.

Not much goth has been picked. I would love to find room for the Ofra Haza remix of one particular song but it doesn't fit the club.

I reverted to the version from two hours ago.

Rap recycled the best basslines and riffs of both 70s and 80s R&B

I'm admittedly fiending to pick more already, but I'm cool with it if people want to keep going at the current leisurely pace.

Which explains a lot why Ian Astbury played the part of Jim Morrison from the Doors reunion a few years ago. Thankfully never flashed his shlong, and I thought Astbury did a good job on vocals.

I understand the other sheets, they are wonderful...I was thinking more about repairing the main sheet when things like this happen.

was thinking the exact same thing.

"take the funky drummer, and give him back to james"

I liked how today worked.

We still have a few who havent drafted yet. If we keep adding picks, they fall farther behind. Yes, it's their fault, but, would suck for them.

How many days would it take to finish the draft doing just two a day.

Today was Round 11, I believe, and I think there are 25 rounds (50 picks total), so another 14 days. Seems reasonable to me and plenty of time for fun commentary.
