for the wrong award?how do you freaks pronounce award, btw?
Award: http://youtu.be/T8pAiQixZ-Q
Claimed?
I assumed this was for Rude/Thorn, but maybe not
Why would I be posting for Rude/Thorn?I was claiming it if it hadn't already been claimed. Although I'm completely oblivious to this fantastic process.

They sound similar, but do not rhyme.

Dawn rhymes with lawn and pawn.

Don rhymes with con and John.

Though Mad Men used the Don/Dawn joke to great success.

Exactly. People are seriously still having a hard time with this?
Because it is dead wrong.
Not dead wrong. All those statements are true, they just all rhyme with each other, too. Don, dawn, John, lawn, con, Jon, prawn, pawn, all the same stuff.
I suppose it must be a regional dialect issue, because those words are NOT all the same the way I pronounce them.

When I was a kid, I mowed the lawn, not the lon.

The first statement "sound similar, but do not rhyme" contradicts the rest.

Right, you pronounced it incorrectly.

I've already conceded some people might pronounce these words the same.

I've also stated that I pronounce them differently.

I said they're similar but not rhyming.

I'm sorry that you can't discern the difference between the "aw" and "ah" vowel sounds.

If you go to Dictionary.com and type in don and dawn, and click the speaker icon next to each word, you will hear the difference.

And if you don't, maybe it's your ears -- and not your pronunciation -- that is the problem.

Question - do you see people on TV pronouncing these words your way or our way?
