Explosions in Manchester? (1 Viewer)

And I thought this was going to be a joke about City/United not winning the Premiership.

T&P for these folks.  Hoping this is less severe than initially reported.

Terrorists figured out that they don't need to get into an event to cause massive casualties. Just wait for the end of it.

Exploding speaker - with or without a bomb inside - seems kinda unlikely.

NBC News: "US officials briefed on Manchester explosion say UK authorities investigating arena incident as possible suicide bombing."

Would make that other arrest a bit superfluous...details always so sketchy at this stage.
What if they caught someone on vid rushing into the venue as crowd exited, followed by the explosion?   If there was concert security in place, they move out of the way as the crowd started to exit.

CNN still jerking themselves off over their anti-Trump coverage.  This would have to be a pretty big deal to overshadow that.  Arianna Grande concert just won't cut it.
I have been watching for 25 minutes and that is all they are showing.

Dude, this is serious. Concentrate on what is important

Probably a lot is kids at an Adriana Grande concert :(
I was just thinking that.  Not that I want anyone hurt, but hopefully her image shift has at least raised her demographic's age.  If nothing else, teenagers are probably more likely to survive stampedes and/or nail bombs than 10 year olds and tweens.

Wife just said the exact same thing

They're also saying trains shut down and city on lock down.
Been a tremendous outpouring of support in the city - Taxis offering free rides, at least one hotel serving as central place for parents and kids to meet up, individuals offering rooms/beds for the people stuck in Manchester

Manchester Arena reporting that incident took place outside of the Arena - in a public space - essentially ending any speculation that this was a speaker, or other electrical malfunction in the arena.

If it's a bomb, I'm wondering whether the security measures for people entering the venue are equal to ours, worse than ours, better than ours, etc.

It also struck me before that at the end of a  concert or sporting event, with people streaming towards the exits, security is down and that would be an opportune time for a terrorist to enter with a bomb.

CBS News confirms a large group of young girls are among the 19 dead following alleged terror attack at Ariana Grande concert in England

Dove tails with another tweet I saw referencing ambulances going to local children's hospital with "Staff say small children among injured."

:sadbanana:

Hopefully nothing, but:

Manchester police are telling British journalists a second suspect device has been found and they will execute a controlled explosion

ETA - Police announcing they will do a controlled explosion - hope it does not freak everyone out.

There will be a controlled explosion in Cathedral gardens shortly if you hearing anything don't be concerned.

ETA 2 - Officers carrying out a precautionary controlled explosion in Cathedral Garden confirm that it was abandoned clothing, not a suspicious item

Doesn't matter. I knew right off the bat that a terrorist blew himself up when people exited the arena. It totally nullifies checking bags as people go into an event.

Just saw a man on foxnews that was there, said there are no metal detectors or patdowns

I'm telling you, there's going to be a point where an attack is on such a widespread scale that mass deportation of Muslims from Europe happens. We don't need more 3rd world countries.

It's going to be very hard for security at an event to stop a suicide bomber waiting for people to exit an event. They have figured it out. You pretty much would need the military at every event. Someone is still likely to die.

They are useless in this type of attack. The bomber simply waits for the opportunity to attack. The attacker does not need to go into the event.

It's impossible to stop. Guns, bombs or cars...

Preventing people from wanting to do it is the best chance humanity has.

Thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families.

all of the people who have responded with terribly insensitive posts in this thread seem to have a common denominator. Hopefully mods take appropriate action.
