FBG Piano Players/Keyboardists - Questions (1 Viewer)

Although ratio of FBG:Piano Players is low I'm taking a shot here.

Few questions:

Is there a place online to buy sheet music and or lead sheets for just one or two songs that I want and not have to buy an entire Beatles catalog? I'm perfectly fine paying for the stuff but don't want to drop 30 dollars every time I just want the lead sheets for a single Steely Dan song.

Is there standard sheet music for just playing the harmony so that the melody can be sung? All of the books I've ever owned for modern music play the melody with the RH instead of allowing for the song to be sung along with.

Is there a standard form of pared down sheet music just for the harmony/backing music or am I just supposed to be using the lead sheet chords and improvising them so that the harmony sounds better and someone can sing along based on the arrangement I've come up with? I'm self taught and not great with improvising on chord structure with both hands and would love to find sheet music with just the harmony instead of just chord lead notations.

Thought I'd ask here first and break up some of the political threads.

One last note....anyone use the iPad to scroll their sheet music? Programs with exercises or that you can buy and load sheet music into? Are there any attachments from ipad to an electronic piano that would work?

I have a Yamaha P-95 Digital Piano if it matters.

Yes, there are quite a few sites that will allow you to purchase single song sheet music. Just type "name of song" "sheet music" into Google and you'll get a list of places. A quick search finds a few:musicnotes.comsheetmusicplus.comonlinesheetmusic.comI think I paid $5 for one song about a year ago.

Gotcha, I've found a few things - but I was hoping for some first hand experience from which sites are worth signing up at. I guess I can go through the ones you listed and find out what looks easiest to deal with. How do they come to you, .pdf?

I don't play the piano/keyboard, but I applaud your non-political thread and support it wholeheartedly!

"Piano" is code for Conservative, right?
It makes me sick that all of you pinko liberals are trying to get sheet music for free. If Obama was not trying to redistribute all of our wealth in the form of higher taxes, then maybe the darn sheet music would not be so expensive!!!!!!

Especially interested in this

You'll maybe want to look for arrangements marked as vocal scores or vocal/piano that will have the melody line on top and both the treble and bass clef for the piano below.orIf you paid attention to your scales and chords ( which I ducked as much as possible during 8 years of lessons) you could probably fake it by playing the bass and just playing the chords with your right hand. And if the key signature really sucks, when in doubt, go heavy on the sustain pedal and just slap on the black keys.

Bumping an old thread. Need help from the pianists amongst us because I'm hitting a dead end everywhere.

I need the piano sheet for Chicago: Let it Snow from their Chicago 25 Christmas Album. All my usual websites, music peoples and everywhere else I look doesn't have it or when they think they do it turns out to be Michael Buble' or just the traditional version.

Any help?

I never answered your original question and am doing so now solely to bump this thread.

For general song by song sheet music, I like sheetmusicplus. It's always had pretty much anything I needed.

For music that has just the actual piano part that was played and not the melody sung by the singer you need the orchestration charts. They have the lead sheet chart (just the melody) in the treble cleff above the main basic treble/bass cleff version of the piano part so that you can follow along on the piano with the actual melody. For christian music I know most of the full charts are written like that.

From there it depends on the artist. Take Billy Joel for example. In his songs where the piano plays while he is singing, the melody is exceptionally easy to remove from the written piano sheet music because he basically plays base chords under the singing. You can actually see in the cleff what you are looking to not play and simply ignore that part. Elton John's written music is a little more advanced in that his piano compositions are light years ahead of Billy so it's even easier to take the melody out of the piano part if it is even there.
