Rationale: Went with Peyton and LT last year and made it to the last cut, but was disappointed in how little Peyton helped. He seldom outscored middle of the road QB's by more than a few points. I decided to take a cut at QB to strengthen elsewhere. Gambling a little on CPep and Garrard to backup Ben, but their costs were too good to pass up. With the flex, I wanted at least 3 quality backs active every week--at least 2 should produce good scores and if 3 do, it's a jackpot. I'm in the quantity over quality camp for WR's: Berrian, Holmes or Bruce won't outproduce CJ or Steve Smith, but I"m hoping the combo of all 3 will stay close. Since I got all 3 for the same price as one stud, I can live with that. Filled in with low-cost gamble WR's, hoping 1 of them each week will fill in any gaps from the three mid-level guys. Thought Witten was the cheapest of the potential high-scoring TE's and gampbled a little with just Johnson as a backup (like many others, it appears). With the 8 bucks left, I wanted 3 D's and 3 K's so that I have at least 2 of each active each week--a couple points here or there may be what gets you past a cut.

I specifically stayed away from "combos" like LT and Gates. Too much money on 2 guys with the smae bye week tempts fate a little too much for my pleasure.

Didn't really have much time to put this together. Plus, never done the survivor contest before.

- Happy with WR's, although had to switch L. Coles last minute. Loved him in PPR scoring. Sub'd him with DJax+Curtis.

- Wanted top tier QB, just didn't pan out that way. Went with the boom or bust picks

- Same with RB's. Started out with Bush and Parker. Swapped Parker out with Peterson and Caddy. Then cut a few corners for Foster. Nobody shares byes, could work out well, who knows.

- Went with 4 TE's as opposed to bulking up on WR's. Didn't exactly plan it that way, but I think the WR's I have will get the job done. Probably screwed up there, but oh well

- With no penalties for scoring, LOVE GB and TEN here.

Did this at work as I rushed to beat the extended deadline. Forgot to even look for Garrard. Whoops. I probably could have spent the Brandon Marshall money better.

Wasnt paying enough attn. and didnt realize it closed NOW. I mean, we still have two whole days left till games start I hadnt bothered checking!

Good luck to everyone.

Here's your team analysis Marvin88 per your request.

QB - Peyton Manning - 31QB - David Garrard - 2Went with 2 QBs, but you've got Manning here. Garrard plays at home vs. HOU on Manning's bye week 6. Good job there.
Code:
RB - A. Peterson - 23RB - Cadillac Williams- 21RB - B. Jackson - 15RB - Deshaun Foster - 13RB - Dominic Rhodes - 3RB - Jerome Harrison - 2RB - Tony Hunt - 1
Seven RBs when you only will score 2 is a bit much, IMO. You should be able to get decent points from three, maybe four of the seven RBs. I think your cap might've been better used to secure a 3rd QB but we'll see. All you need is two to do well, so you've got a good chance. You've got 3 RBs with week 7 byes (GB, CAR, CLE) It shouldn't be that big of a problem though, as you have good depth.
Code:
WR - T.J. Housh - 34WR - Calvin Johnson - 23WR - Santonio Holmes - 14WR - Devery Henderson - 9WR - Demetrius Williams - 3
A good mix of WRs here. All you need is 3, so you're in good shape. Good use of byes here too only PIT and DET have week 6 byes. Your week 6 you'll need Henderson, Williams and TJ to carry you. Still, not too bad here.
Code:
TE - Antonio Gates - 35TE - Eric Johnson - 1TE - A. Smith - 1
Gates is Gates - enough said. Good depth here too.
Code:
PK - Neil Rackers - 2PK - Rob Bironas - 1PK - John Kasay - 1
Not sure if you need 3 kickers, as long as you have 2 each week, I'm not sure you'll need 3, but that's nit-picky.
Code:
TD - Chicago Bears- 9TD - Baltimore Ravens - 8
You went stud, stud on your defense. Which should give you adequate points coverage there. Total value: 250 - I like this team especially if Adrian Peterson, Calvin Johnson and Santonio Holmes play to their full potential. Gates will carry you on some weeks and so will Peyton. Your RBs are a little weak, but deep. Hopefully they'll hold the team together while the big guns tally up the points. If all else fails, you've got two superior defenses that can carry you if needed too. Solid effort considering the cap and bye week management.

I'll give it an B+ with the possibility of making some big noise if certain players take off.

I agree with this. I was very close to taking Addai and Peyton. Might have been a great move if I figured out a way to survive week 6. One advantage is that's a relatively early bye week, so there will be teams left that suck.

QB - Drew Brees - 21

QB - David Garrard - 2

Went with one stud QB, bank on Garrard getting lucky on Brees bye week

RB - Steven Jackson - 60

RB - Larry Johnson - 49

RB - Jamal Lewis - 22

RB - Leon Washington - 14

3 of 4 available each week. no bye conflicts. Could be huge combo with SJ and LJ and hopefully consistent week to week production. Value with Leon if Jones goes down this year or he might have a few big play weeks without that.

WR - Bernard Berrian - 16

WR - Darrell Jackson - 15

WR - Ronald Curry - 8

WR - Drew Bennett - 6

WR - Malcom Floyd - 4

WR - Demetrius Williams - 3

WR - Wes Welker - 3

WR - Patrick Crayton - 3

WR - Jacoby Jones - 2

WR - Ashley Lelie - 2

WR lottery. Even stud WR weekly scores can be too erratic week to week in single elimination format. Throw bodies at it and hope at least 3 step up each week.

TE - Bo Scaife - 9

TE - Daniel Graham - 7

Went with value and potential. No sure thing here.

PK - Rian Lindell - 1

PK - Ryan Longwell - 1

Don't want to invest $$$ here

TD - Arizona Cardinals - 1

TD - Houston Texans - 1

Ditto PK

In hindsight, I should have taken CPep and not Garrard, I didn't even consider him. Garrard won't have too many big weeks, but CPep could explode one week and be down the next. With a good QB1, that's not a real problem.

QB - Marc Bulger - 23 great schedule and I think will light it up

QB - Alex Smith - 12 for those 2-3 games with 3 TDs and 300+

QB - David Garrard - 2 if he runs in a couple in a couple of games game

Thought of Peyton and Garrard only but I think this system needs 3 QB options

RB - Rudi Johnson - 40 workhorse

RB - Willis McGahee - 29 workhorse

RB - Cadillac Williams - 21 good schedule and healthy

RB - Fred Taylor - 17 thought of Pittman here and improving WR, but Fred will get his 900 and 8 Tds

Would have like Leonard and/or Bennett

WR - Joey Galloway - 20 - PPR

WR - Vincent Jackson - 17 - I like him this year

WR - Santonio Holmes - 14 - I like him this year

WR - Devery Henderson - 9 - I like him this year

WR - Ronald Curry - 8 - Bought into the hype

WR - Demetrius Williams - 3 good for 1-2 great game

WR - Jacoby Jones - 2 #2 WR with big play ability

WR - Dennis Northcutt - 1 Starting WR, hope for 1 great game

The great sucker bet position, I went from 5 good WRs and 2 good RBs, to hoping WR quantity = quality

TE - Heath Miller - 11 - will get his touches and TDs

TE - Bo Scaife - 9 Vince Knows Bo

TE - Eric Johnson - 1 In his day he could play

Would change nothing here I like my picks

PK - Josh Brown - 2 He's a kicker on a good offense

PK - Jason Hanson - 2 He's a kicker on a reasonably good offense that may not score TDs but get into scoring position

They're kickers who cares

TD - Jacksonville Jaguars - 4

TD - Green Bay Packers - 3

Agressive Defs

Thanks, Wheel. Wasn't looking specifically for a critique of my lineup but GLADLY accept it. I was wondering about general strategy that you guys think would work. Of ocurse, some of this can be deduced from looking at your lineups. Thanks, again, for responding.

QB - Drew Brees - 21

QB - Damon Huard - 4

QB - David Garrard - 2

As others have mentioned, Brees seemed like the best value among top-tier QBs...I need Huard to cover the bye and hope one of the other two can "hit" on any off weeks Brees might have.

RB - Edgerrin James - 29

RB - Ahman Green - 23

RB - Cadillac Williams - 21

RB - Sammy Morris - 3

RB - Tony Hunt - 1

Decided to try to get some quality depth with three pretty much undisputed #1 options for their teams. I left myself vulnerable week 10, but hopefully Hunt will come through that week. Westbrook's knees are worse off than many people might think, and I think Hunt might get some more PT as the season progresses.

WR - Lee Evans - 29

WR - Laveranues Coles - 25

WR - Darrell Jackson - 15

WR - Derrick Mason - 11

WR - Joe Horn - 7

WR - Bobby Wade - 5

Others seem to have loaded up flyers at this position. I decided to look for as much value as I could get. With PPR, Evans and Coles seemed like decent value.

TE - Todd Heap - 26

TE - Daniel Graham - 7

TE - Eric Johnson - 1

In a PPR, Heap seemed worth the price and, if he has an off week, hopefully one of the other two will come through.

PK - Jason Elam - 3

PK - David Akers - 3

TD - Baltimore Ravens - 7

TD - Pittsburgh Steelers - 4

TD - Carolina Panthers - 3

I went unconventional with three defenses, hoping to increase the odds of one of them hitting on a weekly basis and puttting some points on the board. In retrospect, I probably should have reconsidered two teams from the same division, but this group gives me 4 games vs. Cleveland plus an assortment of Oaklands, Atlantas, Houstons, and Arizonas sprinkled in.

As last year's "King of the Thread", i feel VERY behind the 8 ball! Sucks that work gets in the way of FF!

Only did 1 mod from my initial plan (yes...thas spelled O-N-E! hundreds? sheesh, I spent 10 hours of my valuable drinking time doing these 2 versions!). This was either gonna work or not work. Bet the farm that WRBC would get the job done, and hoping to get a typical Manning year at QB. Can't overlook TE at 1.5 pts/catch and looking to capitalize on da Bearsss defense getting a lot of scoring as well. 2 QB and 3 RB may be risky, but I'm betting that someone in the WR corps can hit the lotto every week. Made top 35 last year, looking to repeat using a similar strategy, with modifications to fit this year's new more flexible rules. Value, Value, Value. I was VERY generic in my picks last year (l had literally EVERY popular guy) and was in the top 10 in the finals at one point. Having a single costly stud is great (anyone over $50 in my book), but if he drops a turd in any week you could get killed. Good luck to everyone!

QB - Damon Huard - 4

QB - David Garrard - 2

Tried for a platoon most likely to have occasional big weeks, with good complimentary schedules, and, of course, the $2 starter, and some good 14-16 match ups. Since even studs have bad weeks, I think it's important for this type of contest (with the scoring as well), to have better odds of at least one guy having a good week.

RB - Joseph Addai - 46

RB - Reggie Bush - 45

RB - Fred Taylor - 17

RB - DeShaun Foster - 13

Assuming that LT regresses back to him normal production and P.Manning doesn't blow up, I think I have a shot. I was also in the mindset of quantity with upside over proven quality as long as they are starters. Bye weeks can kill you if you go with all high priced studs.
yep. i spent too much on big dogs last year and although I had a few monster weeks, i fell back and out of it quickly with a couple bad ones. I went with a roster full of solid performers who should keep me in a while, and not nearly as susceptible to laying an egg.

My strategy....

Try to pick the studs and upside guys that others might not necessarily pick. Try to back up the starting RB's as cheap as possible. Concentrate on specific points over sporadic points, hence the low priority in TE and DEF. Pick as many RB's and Wr's as I possibly could.

I would really appreciate any analysis of my strategy or my picks...

i went heavy on the rb position because i wanted consistant scoring , to me the wr's are just too inconsistant. i am another believer in the quantity at wr over the quality, i am just hoping for 2 of my wr's to produce each week, because i feel with my depth at rb and a the top Tight end will compensate for my lack of a star at wr. i wanted a consistant qb week in and week out so i went with palmer, my only worry is his knee will explode. i took s. jackson over LT because i think norv turner is bad luck, and i couldnt afford to have LT and Gates being on the same bye week. i spent alot on def, but i couldnt pass up the bears special teams. i probably should have sacrificed my the bears def for a better wr. originally i wanted l. johnson and s. alexander as my rb but they had the same bye weeks. i set my lineup so i will have 3 starting backs at all times reguardless of the bye weeks.

PK - Nick Folk - 1

TD - Washington Redskins - 2

TD - Kansas City Chiefs - 2

Total value: 250

QB Strategy - I decided to ride Palmer. Damon Huard and David Garrard are solid i think and scream value(both named starters this week).

RB Strategy - Love me some SA this year. Thomas Jones will be solid with the Jets and Julius Jones will get plenty of yards(I think Barber's TD stealing last year was the worst case scenario for JJ).

Anthony Thomas will be the goal line love from the Bills and shard in carries with Lynch.

WR Strategy - I think I got two studs in TJ and LE. I tried to get some steady points with some Hacket and Bruc the took my chances with the rest.

TE - Heath Miller and two sleepers.

PK and def - Honestly just picked them without much thinking.

QB - Jay Cutler - 16

QB - Matt Leinart - 14

Haven't seen to many teams with Addai. Think he could be great in this format as he had 40 rec lasy year just sharing. Like Rudi's schedule at the end of the year.

didn't have a lot of time to check into my entry, so :kicksrock: if some are injured. every other year i have taken my time and (over)analyze this contest and sucked, so can't really do much worse this year... :)

QB - Alex Smith - 12

QB - Jeff Garcia - 8

QBBC should prove interesting.

RB - LaDainian Tomlinson - 70

RB - Steven Jackson - 60

RB - Adrian Peterson - 23

RB - Michael Pittman - 8

RB - T.J. Duckett - 2

Swinging for the fences on RBs. SJax and LT2 were too cheap to pass up. Need AD to step up on BYE weeks, or some goal line vulturing.

WR - Santonio Holmes - 14

WR - Ronald Curry - 8

WR - Bobby Wade - 5

WR - Troy Williamson - 4

WR - Cedrick Wilson - 3

WR - Demetrius Williams - 3

Need to get past week 5 and then in the clear again.

TE - Heath Miller - 11

TE - Eric Johnson - 1

TE - Alex Smith - 1

Can't neglect TE scoring.

PK - Jason Elam - 3

PK - Neil Rackers - 2

PK - John Kasay - 1

Or neglect PKs.

TD - Chicago Bears - 8

TD - San Francisco 49ers - 2

TD - Arizona Cardinals - 1

Top DST, plus two that should outperform their cost.
yeah....you're done already :kicksrock: 3 def and 3 kickers? people are underestimating the ppr aspect of this.
Sjax and LT = 3.5 normal RBs. 3 Ks is the play with the huge FG distance scoring. Given that he had Chic D I could see another WR in the mix. Duckett was probably a waste.

_______

A bit week at TE, but otherwise like the potential here.

Nice team...I haven't checked your bye weeks, but, if they match up, you should be looking pretty good. You could probably use a QB3 (maybe Garrard instead of the Panthers D), but, I think you have a great team. Good luck.

Well that sucks. Gesh, FBG can't get your articles out on time but you sure can shut people out on a deadline. Between the price increase and missing articles, I'm starting to get a little sour on FBG.Too bad I don't have a 3 digit member number to sell.

QB - Drew Brees - 21

QB - Daunte Culpepper - 4

QB - David Garrard - 2

Lots seem to have Brees.

RB - Willie Parker - 44

RB - Brandon Jacobs - 26

RB - Ahman Green - 23

RB - Tony Hunt - 1

Seen Parker, Jacobs and Green quite a bit. Maybe Hunt takes over when the Westbrook finally goes down for extended time? Just couldn't spend all my money on one of the top three. But it seems like every time I look at top performers over the last few years they always have at least one stud RB.

WR - Reggie Wayne - 39

WR - T.J. Houshmandzadeh - 34

WR - Isaac Bruce - 15

WR - Ronald Curry - 8

WR - Wes Welker - 3

WR - Patrick Crayton - 3

WR - Jacoby Jones - 2

One of the only ones to take Wayne that I've seen. Two studs with the usual value WR's.

TE - Owen Daniels - 11

TE - Bubba Franks - 3

TE - Eric Johnson - 1

Bubba Franks? What on earth was I thinking? Must have forgot to change that...

PK - Jeff Wilkins - 3

PK - Kris Brown - 1

TD - Oakland Raiders - 3

TD - Washington Redskins - 2

TD - Houston Texans - 1

Had to take the Texans. Could have a lot of special teams TDs.

Overall just went with solids players at each position, but no top studs. RB's aren't very deep. Injuries could get me. I haven't come close to figuring this contest out.

General strategy: Put the scoring system into the DD and created a team that maximizes total points over 16 weeks while still remaining consistent week to week (created a variety of teams and compared them using the Weekly Points feature).

QB - Drew Brees - 21

QB - Joey Harrington - 6

Brees is the best value among the elite qbs - need him to stay healthy

RB - Reggie Bush - 45

RB - Adrian Peterson - 23

RB - DeShaun Foster - 13

RB - Adrian Peterson - 4

RB - Brian Leonard - 3

Bush is ready to explode especially with .5 pts/catch

ADP is a badass

Foster - proven starter is a steal at $13

A couple backups who could thrive if the guy ahead of them goes down

WR - T.J. Houshmandzadeh - 34

WR - Calvin Johnson - 23

WR - Santonio Holmes - 14

WR - Ronald Curry - 8

WR - Demetrius Williams - 3

WR - Anthony Gonzalez - 3

WR - Patrick Crayton - 3

WR - Chris Henry - 2

WR - Shaun McDonald - 1

Housh will get even more targets with Henry out = possible top 5 finish

CJ - see ADP above (plus he is playing for the mad scientist)

Holmes - major upside and no team is complete without a Buckeye

Curry - value value value

5 fliers who hopefully will provide some big games

TE - Antonio Gates - 35

TE - Eric Johnson - 1

Took the plunge with Gates - this should payoff with each catch netting me 1.5 pts

PK - Jason Hanson - 2

PK - Nick Folk - 1

Cheap, play indoors, high powered offenses

TD - Miami Dolphins - 4

TD - Tennessee Titans - 1

Fins could challenge for top honors and the Titans have some nice matchups

Total value: 250

CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

Dude, the entry form and rules have been out there for like a month.Back on topic, am I the only one who went with the "two stud TE" theory? I have Gates and Heap, thought it was a good idea at the time. Then again, I was pretty drunk.

QB - Drew Brees - 21

QB - Trent Green - 7

QB - David Garrard - 2

RB - Steven Jackson - 60

RB - Frank Gore - 48

RB - Willis McGahee - 29

RB - Brian Leonard - 3

WR - Lee Evans - 29

WR - Marques Colston - 27

WR - Mike Furrey - 8

Why do people think Foster was a value in best ball format?

I also like seeing Bush on several teams...not enough TDs for my taste with Deuce in the mix.

QB - Matt Leinart - 14

QB - Rex Grossman - 13

QB - David Garrard - 2

Hoping Leinart will be steady while Grossman has those huge swings which are OK in a best ball format. Garrard too much value at $2 to pass up. Considered Vince Young and Daunte Culpepper instead of Leinart.

RB - Reggie Bush - 45

RB - Shaun Alexander - 41

RB - LaMont Jordan - 19

RB - Leon Washington - 14

RB - Dominic Rhodes - 3

RB - Tony Hunt - 1

I think SAlex has a chance to post at least 75% of LT's numbers at 59% of the cost. Even at only .5 PPR, I think Bush will outperform his price. Jordan/Rhodes gives me a reasonable third starter. Washington is kind of a flyer for a little variety. If Hunt counts even once he was probably worth the price.

Toyed with all kinds of combos and seriously considered LT, Brandon Jacobs, Ahman Green and Ladell Betts.

WR - Vincent Jackson - 17

WR - Bernard Berrian - 16

WR - Santonio Holmes - 14

WR - Kevin Curtis - 10

WR - Ronald Curry - 8

WR - Wes Welker - 3

WR - Chris Henry - 2

I went pure value/upside like last year when I made it to about week 10 or 11. Most of these guys will probably be on tons of teams. Thought about Bobby Wade instead of Henry, but Wade won't win anyone the contest while Henry is capable of moster games in the second half if I make it that far. Everyone else could potentially be the #1 WR on their team in this format. Those weeks when Grossman to Berrian results in a long TD or two I should be feeling pretty good.

TE - Bo Scaife - 9

TE - Daniel Graham - 7

Strong consideration to Gates, Cooley and Eric Johnson. If I had one more roster spot it would have been Johnson. I think Scaife could be THE TE sleeper and felt Graham was good value at $7. A lot of owners have these guys.

PK - Josh Scobee - 3

PK - Neil Rackers - 2

Strong leg guys who can kick the 50+ yarders (5 points each).

TD - Minnesota Vikings - 3

TD - Houston Texans - 1

Love the Vikings playmaking abilities on defense and wanted a second team that I thought not many would use because I want the chance to get seperation.

Total value: 247

In the end, I think I have a team that will hang around for a while because I should get decently consistent points but I don't know if my lineup is unique enough to seperate down the stretch.

I need Bush and SAlex to count every week. I need Jordan/Rhodes to count 6-8 times between byes and flex. The more Washington counts, the better I will be, I think.

I expect my top six WRs to be on so many teams that I need my flyer on Chris Henry to pay off. I also need the ranks of owners that have a lot of the same WRs to get pared down due to off weeks by their QBs/RBs.

Oh yeah, if the Texans could score about 20 defensive TDs, that would help. :-)

QB - Ben Roethlisberger - 18

QB - Joey Harrington - 6

RB - Reggie Bush - 45

RB - Ahman Green - 23

RB - Adrian Peterson - 23

RB - Leon Washington - 14

RB - Anthony Thomas - 4

RB - Dominic Rhodes - 3

WR - Marvin Harrison - 40

WR - T.J. Houshmandzadeh - 34

WR - Muhsin Muhammad - 13

WR - Demetrius Williams - 3

WR - Wes Welker - 3

WR - Jacoby Jones - 2

TE - Owen Daniels - 11

TE - Eric Johnson - 1

PK - Jeff Reed - 2

PK - Kris Brown - 1

PK - Nick Folk - 1

TD - Cleveland Browns - 1

TD - Tennessee Titans - 1

TD - Houston Texans - 1

Funny thing is you could still make changes this afternoon. It wasn't like you missed your bus and showed up 15 minutes late.
