FBG Subscriber Playoff Contest (1 Viewer)

My playoff contest teams are mostly focused on players from the 49ers and Ravens. I did not particularly think that these two teams were the favorites, but liked the value of the number of players that you could get combined with the potential to make it all the way.

Since both my teams were NOT wild card teams, I selected two players each from the WC teams I expected to win (NY Giants - Eli & Nicks and Bengals - Dalton & Greene) and then added two Lions players (Stafford and Calvin) who I hoped would score well and upset the Saints.

Obviously losing four players was not what I hoped for and now I am counting on only six players this weekend as well as wins by my two Super Bowl teams to get me by. Using 20/20 hindight, if I could have know how well Stafford and Calvin would have done, then I would have added a player or two from either the Packers or Patriots rather than the two Bengals.

Oh well.
I think the biggest problem in your strategy (other than assuming the Bengals would win :) ) is the teams you picked for the Super Bowl. You went with two low scoring offenses. Even if you get by this week, you would have trouble with next week. Assume the top 4 seeds win this weekend. If you only have your SB players up against entries who only have GB/NE players, you would have trouble advancing even if SF and Baltimore go to the Super Bowl.
this doesn't make any sense - If his 2 teams win they must score to win. Having 4 players in the 2 games should be enough to make it to the finals.
I also have the two NY Giant players, IF the Giants can beat the Packers. However, even if I only have four scorers for the semi-final round and they are the two lowest scoring teams remaining, one or two of the Ravens or 49ers could hit big. I could see Ray Rice getting over 150 total yards and scoring multiple TDs and similar possibilities for Frank Gore. In addition to this, I don't have to be the high scorer, just make the cut so that my heavy 49er and Raven roster gets a shot.
Agreed.Im in the same boat as you, although my Giants arent as strong (Bradshaw and Tynes)

Well, this team made the proverbial "Squeak through" with just enough to get by in the first week. 3.1 points.

A good omen to advance a couple rounds. That's all I can hope for at this point.

I think you guys are missing the point. First, it assumes that the top 4 teams win, which means there will be no players from the Giants available. Second, there aren't two players on SF who are likely to outscore Rodgers and another GB player, especially if GB is playing from behind. And, other than Rice, the same goes for Baltimore versus Brady and another NE player. You could very easily miss the cut even with SF and Balt winning. For example, take a look at the Detroit/NO game. Stafford (41.1) and CJ (45) outscored Brees (41.2) and Sproles (22.5) by a wide margin, even though they lost to NO by 17 points. It's not hard to imagine that every single Detroit entry had both Stafford and CJ on their roster.

perfect way to start the contest. i don't remember what brady cost, but i would have sacrificed dickson, gb def, cobb, and kuhn to nab him. i think you'll be covered in the finals.

i think he'll be fine. there are so many people invest in the saints that if sf wins, he'll be up against a ton of teams carrying dead money into next round. the same point you're making against his team is the same point that will get dead money teams over the cutline this week with no chance of advancing next week. it's a wash worst case for him and will liekly lean his direction if sf wins.

only if the saints make it and you get extremely lucky. colston is always hit or miss and sporles scares me with ivory and thomas around. you'll need a perfect strom in the big game. i would like this team better with brees and henderson instead of colsten/sporles/turner. i know you were looking for week one pts, but 17 bucks in lion's stock is a lot when your super bowl team is the saints. they were over priced relative to gore.

Perfect storm is kind of what I'm wishin for.Giant win this week and again next week and then stink it up in the Super Bowl with Pats advancing all the way of course and the tearing it up in the Super Bowl.I did have Brees untill the last second and then dropped him to get those first week points bad thing is I would have had them anyway.

I don't think its a good possibility. [evil laugh]I see his upside at 115, previous cutoffs have been 117-119 - so sure he has a chance. I hope for my team's sake he doesn't make the cut though :P

I think you're correct here. I haven't seen a team posted here that won't outscore me this week. There are only 12 paying slots out of 6000 entires. I wasn't going to submit an entry that was basically eliminated from the start.

Gonna be a really high cut-line I think.

I had the right Super Bowl strategy on the Saints. The sum of the parts was a better value than Brees.

I'm sitting at 86.95 too per Quiz numbers. And also riding out a Bal/SF SB run. The best of the Ravens and Andre Johnson left to go for me this week.

Plus a bunch of dead money

82.25 pts out of $22 SF is certainly a great start to the weekend, and will be sorely needed again for me to advance next week with only my SB teams remaining, assuming that I'm still alive this time tomorrow.

Loosing the Saints is going to make this contest even more interesting. A number of teams with Brees and another Saint (Sproles, Graham, Colston) will probably advance, but will be too short-handed to continue after that. But they will knock out some teams this week that didn't load up on Saints players. That's what makes this contest really tough.

The top 2 Saints players don't beat out the top 2 49er players. Doesn't really matter how much somebody loaded up on Saints at this point, as only the top 2 will count. My bigger concern at this point is shutting down NE and GB (and eliminating them both would be even better from my standpoint  )

I could have an interesting team to follow with a 49ers/Pats SB. Doubt there are too many of these.

Well it still might - it depends on what they did with their other players. Still it's likely that the NO effect will be a bit less as the SF players were overall cheaper and those teams should, on average, have bigger rosters.-QG

I guess it could knock out some that weren't invested in SF. But then again, even a heavy NO owner could quite conceivably at least have Vernon Davis, who is a solid $9 investment. Looking over my roster compared to yours and KP's, I'm afraid I may have loaded up too much to actually make it to the final cut. I think I have an edge if I get that far, but that may be a big IF.

I'm now at 122.75 + (2 Ravens) + James Jones + Kuhn + Tynes

KP is at 95.85 + (2 Ravens) + Bradshaw + Tynes

Doubt he gets bumped out but at least there's a chance that the cut line could fall below me and above him :)

Thanks for the numbers, QuizGuy. Much appreciated

I'm feeling pretty good with the following still alive:

Tom Brady

Wes Welker

Rob Gronkowski

Frank Gore

Vernon Davis

Eli Manning

Ahmad Bradshaw

Lawrence Tynes

Victor Cruz

Hakeem Nicks

I have 159 with my Giants remaining. Of course none of that matters unless the Giants win tomorrow.

My Terrible Towel may spontaneously burst into flames for this, but fantasy football makes me say some strange things. May the Ghost Of Myron Cope take mercy on me, but..... GO RAVENS! I am feeling all kinds of dirty now. Excuse me while I round up all of the world's soap supplies in an attempt to wash this stain from myself.

Well, I had Brees/Colston/VDavis/Brady/Gronk, but with no/me stack I will not be winning. As a 49er fan I'm okay with that.

So your at 86.95 + 2 Ravens + Andre Johnson right? Gotta track these Balt/SF entries closer :)Think about me as a Bengals fan - I have the same ratbird dilemma and on top of it I have the Stupid 49ers "hey it's John Candy" on the other side :bag:  on this whole trying to win the contest thing.-QG

For the rest of the night, Im not even worried about making the cut because Im too pumped that the 9ers actually pulled that off. Great night for us SF-BAL pickers!! :banned: Gonna be interesting (Also interesting seeing a few SF-NE picks, dont remember any posted before tonight). Patsies are going to raise the cutline, but the biggest concern for us is that the Ravens have a nice offensive day. As long as Rice and Flacco (hard to see another being top 2, but who knows...hopefully not Torrey Smith in my case) put up 50+ combined points, I'll feel pretty good. Otherwise, it could be close. In that case, might depend on how many people tried to win it all or tried to make it thru 2 weeks.Which players gave you the bump in the late game again? Considering I picked SF, Im regretting not using Meachem/Henderson money on GB or NE players. Pretty sure I couldve got Gronk for their combined price. Picked the NO WRs because I wanted to get to this week, but Stafford and Mega made them uneccesary for me last week. Oh well, cant wait for tomorrow.

Contest or not, assuming the Ravens win tomorrow, Id rather see them go to the superbowl than the Cheaters. Also from a previous post, not sure why my roster worries you not making the cut. I got a 10pt lead on you with Bradshaw and Tynes, you have Andre. I could easily see Andre outscoring both tomorrow, but we'll have to wait another 12 hours to get that popcorn ready :popcorn:ETA: I was rooting for the G-Men anyway because their my #2 team after the Stillers, but daaaaaamn will I be pulling for that upset tomorrow!

I am sitting at 106 (Brady/Gronk/Prater so far) with Eli and the entire NYG crew tomorrow, so the top 2 scorers from the G-men for this week. Will have just Patriots (Basically the whole team) and Giants left after this week, so anything but a Giants/Pats Super Bowl and I am out, but like my chances if I can get to the big game.

Yep, that's all I have left other than my 49ers. If the Baltimore Browns win, my biggest issue is going to be advancing with only 4 players. But if I do get through, you and Kenny Powers are going down! :boxing:

Not so much worried about you this week. My bigger concern is going with only 4 players next week, and perhaps more importantly, fighting off the spoilers that have GB and NE players.

IIRC, I need the Giants to win tomorrow to have more than 4 going next week...So like I said, go G-Men!Yeah, your team definitely is the most BAL/SF team I recall seeing in here...You said you had "a lot of dead weight" in a previous post, but I dont see how with how many Ravens you have rostered.

ETA: Because your team is so top-heavy, I hope you miss the cut this week my Stiller brethrenoh :towelwave:

My late bump came mostly from D Thomas of the Broncos (15.3) and Branch (17.5). I also got a big 3.0 from Ridley. If Baltimore and the Packers win I'll have all 8 spots filled for next week (2 Baltimore, 2 SF, Branch, Ridley, James Jones, Kuhn).-QG

Thats the same for me, sans PIT D

Im pulling for a Gmen and houston today and a Gmen - Pats SB. Have 191.95 (which should make the cut i would imagine) from yesterday but lost Brees, Colston and Graham so unless gmen make it to next week, im done in week 20.

NE - Brady, Gronk = 101.45

NO - Brees, Colston, Graham = 75.2

Hou - Casey = 0

Denv - D Thomas = 15.3

Pit - Cotchery = 0

GB - Grant =

NYG - Eli, Jacobs, Manningham, Tynes =

Biggest mistake I made was not buying three players from three teams (NO & NYC Covered two of three). Having three qbs was probably wise (assuming you pick the two that make the big dance). Only having two players from a team in the finals wont likely win this thing.

I wonder if some BAL heavy teams will be eliminated today if two Ravens don't put up big numbers even if they win.

What kind of cut line are we thinking - 130+? 140+? Currently at 99.7 + AJ, Rackers, and 2 of Rogers/Grant/Jennings/Nelson/Finley

Very curious/nervous about the cut line... it was 119.2 in the divisional round last year, but yesterday's mega-scoring should push that higher... but perhaps the higher values on some of the stud players this year will suppress that a bit? Also unclear how many entries might still be in who got by last week on key DET, PIT, ATL or CIN players... hoping there's a lot.

Need a really big scoring day from my two projected SB teams (NYG/BAL) to go on. Hopefully their scoring will be concentrated among just a couple of studs who can score 30+ each, instead of spread out, or I have no chance.

I'm calling a 125 point cut line this week...
