I had assumed when I lost one of my SB teams I was a dead entry, now I'm not so sure I couldn't compete with a NE/NYG final. Think there's any chance?

That will beat mine.I have Welker instead of Hernandez plus I have Ocho Stinko,But I have the dynamic duo of Bradshaw and Ballard to your Eli and Nicks.Really need Giants to make it next week and then to stink it up in Super Bowl.Can't believe I am pulling for the Pats didn't think that day would ever come.

Unfortunately, after looking at some of the line-ups QG posted we are both done. Can't compete with multiple 11-12 player rosters. Still a great contest though. As was the regular season contest.

Okay here's some of the highlighted entries. (Quick aside - most of the other Balt/SF entries sit a little better for making the cut than mine does)

Caveats -

1) I looked at everything by brute force, so there's a possibility I missed a viable entry here or there (though there's less chance of that with the Bal/SF scenario as I care about that one a little more )

2) It's certainly possible - more like probable - that some of these entries with great Super Bowl set-ups will miss the cut. Readers should bear that in mind.

3) In conjunction with 1) and 2) - I have looked at the "extra" (i.e. Non-Super Bowl) guys that the key Balt/SF entries have going this week. I didn't do that for any other scenario.

4) Particularly with the 2 NE scenarios after I found a couple huge-player entries I skipped a couple 10-player entries that I looked at afterwards.

Yep saw that tof course I could hope Eli throws 7 or 8 ints and the only passes he completes are to Ballard but for no TDs,and while I'm wishing for miracles might as well include winning Powerball too.

* All but one team had Tom Brady (100413) - sorry buddy, going to make it tough if he's healthy...

* All but one had Frank Gore (100697) and Vernon Davis (102775). Didn't count these teams out though, as both were in Top 9 on basic projections.

* There were two teams without Alex Smith (101368 and 101451). Tough sledding there again if he's healthy...

* One of the entries posted here (100124) wasn't actually a NE/SF entry. It was a NE/NYG entry...

* Only two entries (102785 and 103758) had what I would call the "Big 8" likely to put up the most points: Brady, Welker, Gronkowski, A.Hernandez,

A.Smith, Gore, Crabtree and V.Davis.

* Deion Branch is only owned by two (101443 and 105583) of what I classified as the top 10 entries

* Amongst the top 5 entries, each of the following guys are owned by exactly 3 of those top entries: A.Hernandez, Welker, Green-Ellis, Akers, SF

Defense and Ginn (this is where the differentiation will likely come from!) Stephen Ridley and Kendall Hunter are on 4 of those teams...* The top 8 entries all have Brady, Gronkowski, A.Smith, F.Gore, Crabtree and V.Davis. These aren't the guys likely to win or lose the contest...

Good luck to all should these teams get through. With the way my team (103758) is set up, I'll be rooting especially for Wes Welker and Aaron Hernandez, and any "extra" performances from Ridley, Ginn, Hunter, Faulk and D.Walker. Likely not. Let's see that's what 43 points. They need two guys worth about 24 points to get there and you have to figure that they'd have that if they loaded up on Pats and Giants.That said, the one other factor is that you had 1 very unpopular team in this contest (Baltimore) and one less popular team in this contest (49ers) as the opponents. If New Orleans and Pittsburgh had gotten there instead (and lost in the conference final) I'm sure the cut-line would've been much higher.-QG

Hey jonny, on the face of it, it looks like you have a shot, but I'll be honest in that I didn't game out all the NE/Giants scenarios. I don't recall seeing a lot of 3 Patriots/8 Giants alignments - and you seem to have all of the biggest key players but I'm not 100% sure if someone else has you covered. Wow I thought for sure I was out and wasn't even going to check, but somehow I made it! 68 points all from Gronk, Manning and Cruz! Have Gronk, Manning, Cruz, Nicks, Jacobs and Tynes to go. Sure I have no shot but it will be fun watching.

It is much tougher if your two SB teams are neither on bye teams. I advanced to the finals (without a hope) based on a healthy roster of Ravens and Niners. I selected those two teams because of my assessment of their chances at making the Super Bowl AND the value that there players presented. I selected two players each from three bye teams that I expected to produce well WHEN they played to carry me on the bye week and hopefully weeks two and three. At first glance, you would say I did not choose well as those players were Stafford and Calvin, Dalton and AJ Green, and Eli and Nicks. Actually the two Bengals wound up being excess with how crazy Stafford and Calvin played, but without both Eli and Nicks scoring big AND two each of my Niners (SMith and Davis) and Ravens getting huge scores, I might not have survived that second weekend. Last weekend was a breeze as I had six scorers, but lost any chance with SF and Baltimore losing.I think that you have to take huge risks in the early rounds, choose valuable players, AND get lucky when your teams win to have a chance to win at the end. It is not even easy to survive choosing the spread them out theory with two or at three most on an abundance of teams, but you must focus on two teams in the Super Bowl to have any chance at winning it all.The theory of loading up on QBs is only good if their cost allows it and you pick the right ones. Rodgers and Brees were the most obvious scoring threats this year, but neither were good choices.

I'm trying to work on a winning theory backwards to forwards.We know for a fact that in order to win you probably need 8+ players in the Super Bowl If you don't do that you're wasting your entry. I suspect 90%+ of the entires are wasted entries.step 1 - Pick both super bowl teamsstep 2 - Have 8+ scorers from those teams including both QBs. In theory in the QBs are priced high like Brees, you could skip the QB and attempt to cover his score at TE/WR/RB if there was a pricing discount there.Manning and Brady accounted for 43 points this week. The cut was 66. It would have taken very bad luck or poor selections not to get 23 points out of two scoring positions throwing 6+ darts.step 3 - Not sure if this is totally true but feel pretty good about saying...don't worry about have players on team 3 and 4 in round 3.Now I would step back to round 1. The number of entires seems to be fairly predictable and the past cuts relatively consistant. I'd have to check, but I think 90-100 was good enough to advance.step 4 - Using Dodds projections for week 1, selected enough players to get you to 90 prejected points. It's probably better to spread out these players and max at two per team. If you do have a super bowl team playing in round one, it's probably better to avoid players going up aganst that team.step 5 - ??? Not sure how to address round 2 yet.

I think assuming most years will be like this in round 3 is a mistake. This year saw the Packers and Saints gone before the championship round. Most likely those were the two most popular teams to load up on. If either or both of those teams played in the NFC championship the cut line would have been much higher. You'd need the favorites to both lose prior to the 3rd round in order for your theory in step 3 to hold.

Actually this season was the outlier.2009 the wk 3 cut was 77.45. Brees and Manning posted 64.7.2010 the wk 3 cut was 52.4. Big Ben and Rodgers posted 32.65. Either Mendenhal or Jennings would have made up the difference on their own.This year acutally held pretty close to form. In the AFC you only had one upset and seeds 1 and 2 were in the championship game. In the NFC 2 played 4. Only one of the final four wasn't seeded that way.
