General Malaise "vs." reading comprehension ; also some talk of skyim and the elder scrolls (2 Viewers)

Do you guys play in 1st or 3rd person? I play in 1st.
Been playing in first mostly as of late, because a spell in each hand just looks freaking bad ###. Sometimes I need to zoom out so I'll go to 3rd for a short period.
Is it worth having one attack spell and health in the other? Or should I go with 2 attack spells and just switch to my healing spell as needed?
Doesn't matter... just favorite all your spells and switch to them quickly and easily.I set up my atronarch and my fire spells as my two quick switch spells and mainly switch between them. If I need a quick heal or anything else I go to my favorites.

Valenwood, another province. You'll have to wait until Elder Scrolls VI or later.
:(
Look at it as opportunity. You're an advance scout. Spy on the meetings of the Jarls. Assassinate all of their advisors. Sneak into the houses of other wood elves late at night and wake them up to talk to them. Get ready for the rising up of your people.

Btw, does this mean that you're on Skyrim disk #2? Or was there ambulatory services performed on your game?
:bag: Disk 2

(on the upside, the gamestop by my house said they will take the scratched on in as a tradein. They can buff the scratch out).

Was trying to complete the Companions quest

with the Ax and all the Companions ghosts and found out something the hard way: no autosaves in that cave. Died at what appeared to be the end. ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE BEGINNING DUMMY~!@~! :bag:
I cannot complete their quests. I went out on the witch killing one, came back and the leader of the companions was dead. don't know where to go from here. I have no quest options for them

Same thing happened to me. That's the way it's suppose to work. Did you go up to the Skyforge? His funeral is up there. I am on the next quest.

This one.Although I've started toying with flame spell in one hand and a ward in the other when fighting mages. Haven't seen it really work out yet.
I use flame and healing a lot. I like the spells where you can just hold the button, having trouble with the lightning and fireball mechanics. I keep clicking the thumbstick for some reason and get stuck moving in and out of sneak if I get excited.

been there a few times with no mention of a funeral. that warrior lady that teaches you archery is just standing out front saying "these two won't be a problem anymore" over and over standing over dead bodies :furley:

oof. That doesn't sound good. I wonder if one of the other Companions wandered off or died (the trigger for the next sequence)? I went up to Dragonwhatever, logged out, then started the "funeral part". Maybe it will reset.I still have the witch heads in my inventory with no one to take them.

Sort of depends on your situation, though generally you are better off dual casting. As soon as possible I would get the perk where dual-casting a spell overcharges the effect into a more powerful version, and use two hands from them on. Then again as soon as possible, get the next perk in that tree where dual-casting a spell often causes opponents to stagger and fall down.I went back to a lower level area and was one-shotting people with dual cast lightning bolt, but if I hit them with two individual lightning bolts they were surviving. So it does make a difference if you have the perk. Can always switch one hand to healing when you need it then. Most of the time that I'm not using my attack spell in both hands it's because I'm starting out the fight with soul trap, then switch over the spell to my attack one. And speaking of which, boy do I wish you could soul trap someone at a distance instead of having to touch them.I haven't done much with the magic shield spells. When I tried it they drained my magicka so fast I didn't think it was worth using.

Played last night for a while and was enjoying everything. Running up past some bandit camp (fairly low level quest I still had on my to do list) and running around the side of a hill saw a nice looking elk. Decided to sprint at it and double blast it with fireballs streaming from both hands. Roasted him in fairly short order.

Stop to get my bearings and drink some real-life wine and something starts drilling the crap out of me. Spin around to see multiple elk attacking me including some etheral green one! Scared the crap out of me and almost took me out. I'm playing pure mage and have absolutely zero buffs on health as it is all dumped into magic. I'm lethal at a distance but shatter like glass as soon as anyone or anything gets in melee range.

Too funny.

can you play a 2-handed melee smasher who also uses destruction or restoration? I'm guessing you need a free hand for any magic, so I would have to put my 2-hander away to cast.

just read some stuff suggesting you have to finish "The Helm Quest" for the Jarl, then go back to the Companions.

Right, you need a free hand to cast. It doesn't take much time to switch between weapons and spells though. You could easily use spells at longer range then pull out the weapon when someone closes the gap.

Sometimes it is the little things that they fix that don't stand out as being a bug, but when they change it, does it ever become noticeable how much nicer it is.

One of them for me was that objects like night stands, anywhere you clicked on them would open the object up. Meaning if you were trying to scoop up 10 loose coins you had laboriously aim in at each individual coin or end up opening the container 5 times in trying to get the coins.

Now they left the top of such objects not part of opening the container, so you can spam the button as you sweep across them to pick things up. Little tiny change, but it really made me realize how annoying it was before.

One thing sort of like that which they didn't change, which I hope they will, is how overly elastic some of the object collisions are. I generally cart loot back to a cave entrance and drop it, then go back in to continue so when I'm done I can just fast travel back and forth and grab everything without having to walk the cave again and again. Tried that in the Barrows up above Riverwood, and as I dropped five items they all bounced off each other and went flying the length of a football field sized room. Or you'll be walking along and barely bump some item and watch it disappear down the street or across the room, sometimes even taking damage because it was going so fast. Wish they'd fix that.

Pretty disappointing bug. I got a quest from the companion line to kill some hag. I go to kill her and it seems I had discovered the location before and cleared it out and killed the boss. Now the quest won't update.

I ran into the same thing with the "visit azura's shrine" quest. I couldn't do anything once I got up there again and talked to the religious lady, and she was pissed that I let nelocar (is that his name?) handle the artifact. wouldn't say anything else to me. Quest is stuck as open. So, of course, I just killed her.

Did you let the elf turn Azura's star into the Black Star? If so that's pretty much the end of the quest. If not, take it back to the elf and let him finish changing it.

That's where having a companion, dog and horse come in handy.

Dear Dragon Who Attacked Me Last Night,I just wanted to pen you a quick note and express my thanks for your bones, scales, and soul. I enjoyed our little encounter, brief though it was.Sincerely yours,GregP.S. In the interest of longer, more challenging fights, may I suggest you choose a better time and place to attack me than the courtyard of the college of magic when I'm standing with the Archmage and three Master level magic trainers?
I had the exact same thing happen. It was funny as hell. That dragon got pwned.

F that! Ask them to buff it out for you. They have those things right in the back.

I HATE GS/EB and never give them my money.

Anyone been attacked by two dragons, two ice trolls and two ice wolves all at once yet?

Interesting scrum between them attacking me or each other, but it didn't end up well for me

Needless to say, after a few tries I backtracked and fast travled somewhere else

Ok there is a glitch that is really pissing me off....

When I entered the Companions bulding, Farkas keeps drawing his sword and saying the same line repeatedly. I get two steps away and it happens again. He is following me all the way out of town and I can't fast travel or anything because of him following me. I am going to have to lead him out somewhere remote and kill him I think. I hope that doesnt ruin my companion quests.

I don't know if this really fixes it or not, but I googled it and found a couple of people saying sometimes a fix for this is to check to see if you have any bounties, and if you do, go and pay them off and then they work properly. You go into your General Stats and down to the Crime menu to see.

So Steam automatically uploaded the 1.2 patch, which apparently breaks a number of things. Included is that the mod I was using to put the HUD back on the center monitor is no longer compatible and it just crashes to desktop if you try.

Luckily someone had archived his game directory and put it out on the net for download. Was able to replace the TESV.exe, and in the Data folder the Skyrim - Interface.bsa and also the update.bsm files and it reverted me back to a version that works, until the guy who made the mod adjusts it to work with the patch.

Supposing I happen upon a cave/mine/dungeon. Should I go in and clear it, or will that mess up some other quest that will come later?
It shouldn't but there are inevitably bugs in Bethesda games like this. I wouldn't let it stop me from dungeon diving, though. If you're really nervous, you can check out the elder scrolls wiki before entering one to see if anyone's reported any bugs related to that area.I have been unable to complete the very first Companions quest because I killed the mage earlier in the game. The dungeon re spawned with spiders, but the mage did not. He's just lying on the floor dead with a white arrow hovering over him. Since the deed was done much earlier in the game I'm not going to go all the way back to a much earlier save. Unless there is a fix some is aware of, I guess it will give me something to look forward to during the second play through.

Finally got my house decked out in Riften and now have a full set of dragon scale armor and a sweet daedric dagger.

Note: A bug exists in this quest that prevents it from being initiated. This can be remedied on PC, but console users will have to wait for updates. In order to Start the quest you need to find Vilkas, open the console and type "setstage c05 1" this will cause any follower to leave you and Vilkas to join you. The quest should then activate normally. Note: (PC) A glitch also occurs where this quest cannot be started if the player has already cleared Driftshade Refuge. If you have already cleared it, then go back to the area and resurrect the three bandits from the last room of the fort (the room behind the barred door) by using the console commands before completing the previous quest. This will allow you to continue through the story correctly.

I had Lydia with me but she got all burnt up in some dungeon with fire coming up from floor vents. In the natural course of game flow I haven't come across a way to pick up another companion. I don't mind spoilers....will I naturally be assigned another companion like I was with Lydia or do I need to go somewhere and purchase/hire a new friend?

I finally beat Moereki. You dont want to know how I did it though. Very lame, but worked :bag:

I expected something cooler for finishing the College of Winterhold quest.

The archmage robe is cool, but no new spells or leveling in them. Also, looting the archmage quarters was cool and gives me a pretty sweet set up when I want to bring chicks from Winterhold back home with me. We dont need to fast travel all the way to Whiterun
Huge Thing for people who havent gotten to or are just about to get to Diplomatic Immunity

MAKE SURE YOU GRAB YOUR WEAPONS FROM THE CHEST BEFORE LEAVING THE BUILDING. It said it was optional so I figured I would just grab the stuff later. There was no later for me and I lost a couple of staffs, but most importantly, I lost about 250 arrows.
Decided to bring a companion with me for as long as I can. Its fun working alone, but why not let someone else help out while my magic regenerates. About to move on to Riften tonight. I know Thieves guild is there but Im thinking of sticking to the main quest for a while. Who knows. Best part about this game is you have so many options.

For those who did the Dark Brotherhood questline and also played Oblivion -

I dig how they tied in Lucian LaChance to Skyrim by making him a summoned spirit. I just got him. No idea how tough he is in an actual fight.

Quick PS3 bug update request. I haven't played yet as I am still trying to finish Demon's Souls, so I've really been avoiding the thread as spoilers are inevitable and haven't kept up. But I had my son over the weekend and he decided to play it. He was really in to it and played long enough to get his character up to level 11. I don't know exactly how much he has played (hopefully you guys have an idea based on his level), but it hasn't been anything to extravagant. Thing is, he came out complaining that the game is already slowing way down on him. Now, we're talking playing over a three day weekend while also playing other games. So it isn't like he has sat and been hammering away at the game all weekend long. We've been co-op playing Dead Island, so he really only has put a few hours in each day over a three day weekend. It kind of scares me that he is already seeing such bad lag. Is this normal for the PS3 version? Has the lag issue been big? He admitted to only keeping one save. Is a work around to keep multilpe saves? Or would the save size be the same for the last file anyways? Just looking for any info (good or bad) on the lag thing with the PS3. TIA.
