General Malaise "vs." reading comprehension ; also some talk of skyim and the elder scrolls (4 Viewers)

God no, don't read a Marksmanship skill book at the beginning of the game.  It's not that hard to level up at low level but takes a really long time at high levels. Save the book for when you're higher level.
I never save them. But you make a very valid point.

I throw them on my bookshelves in my homes until it's a good time to use them. Normally I wait until level 80+ though sometimes if I'm, say, level 49 and there's a great perk at 50 I'll use one to get to the perk quick.

Makes a ton of sense I just never thought of it. I will think about it now though.

Never gotten married in Skyrim.  Didn't even know you could.  I just saw a tip saying I could adopt kids too... why the eff would I do that?
I wondered about that when I've seen it in conversations with some kids I've encountered.  I'm a guy that roams from dungeon to dungeon literally carrying everything he owns on his back while fighting bears and trolls and undead.  Why would you want me to adopt you?

If you want to do the full role play it's not bad. I adopted last time I played. The interactions are limited but it is kind of nice to come home to a wife and kid. Sit by the fire and relax after a hard slog. Once I get a house I almost always end a play session with me sitting by the fire.

I play Skyrim to escape a wife and kid. Pass.

I have already logged 36 hours in the 10 days since release. I am seriously loving my second play through even more than my original one. It is the best game I have ever played.

The Adventures of Serratus - Wood Elf Archer/Thief has so far been an epic journey. Currently we are doing the Thieves Guild, Main Story and various side quests we pick up naturally around the land of Skyrim in our travels and adventures through the different holds. Currently level 25 with primary focus on Archery, Light Armor, Sneak and Alchemy. We also are dabbling in restoration magic and will eventually make our way to the College of Winterhold to brush up on effective spells of Restoration and Illusion to aide in our quest of being a legendary Thief and Assassin. We have been able to embark on and complete 3 Daedric quests (I love those big time). We just finished up a Burglary and Numbers Job in Solitude and have made our way back to Riften to meet with Maven Black-Briar after doing the Honningbrew Meadary job in Whiterun. Along the way to Riften I have begun a very cool adventure "The Lost Expedition". I am putting together the three pieces of a powerful amulet and before I find that third piece I will have to enroll into the College Of Winterhold.

Along the way to Dawnstar I ran into Cicero and helped him in his "Delayed Burial" of the Night Mother. The Dark Brotherhood has failed in 3 assassination attempts on my life thus far, little do they know that I will become the all mighty Dark Brotherhood leader sometime in the future and they will answer to me! Bwahhhahahhhahahha.

I purchased a home in Whiterun. Breezehome (a modded version which is a nice home) houses my lovely wife Camilla (the shop keeper's sister from Riverwood). She thinks I am a merchant traveler and I will keep it that way. My main home though is now just outside of Solitude. Silian Manor is a gorgeous massive home where I can store everything I find in my adventures. It is amazing and well organized (it is a fantastic mod and I highly recommend it for those that are going to play this game a few hundred hours). Here is the home description for those interested:

With this home I now have a central place for everything and it will be my ultimate bachelor pad!

Kharjo is my trusted friend and follower. I assisted him in retrieving his amulet. He was a guard for a traveling caravan of Khajitt merchants. He is a warrior build so he compliments me well and is also not annoying to speak with. I never take him into caves or dungeons. He stands guard for my latest steed after Frost was killed a few days ago while I adventure in various locations as well as allowing me to stay ranged on the roads and off the roads while we deal with anything that may come our way in our travels. My new horse is a standard one. Her name is Melky. She is brown and white with beautiful markings and I purchased her at the stables of Markarth. Frost was killed in a deadly battle with a couple of adept destruction mages she got in some cross fire and I was devastated.

Our armor is the Thieves Guild and I go between the Guilds hood and my Leather Helmet of Minor Archery (20% buff to Archery when in battle). I am collecting various armor in my travels to either sell, enchant or breakdown to learn enchantments.

I have already become a deadly archer and a excellent sneak and lock picker. My next goals are to become a deadly alchemist to create powerful poisons and potions.

I am not a very nice person. I am quick to kill and ask questions later. I am a relentless thief. Stealing and killing is my business and business is good and I look forward to it getting better once I move on to the Dark Brotherhood. At the same time I am gifted (or sometimes I think cursed) with this power of being a so called Dragonborn. I am learning shouts and becoming powerful with some of them as well. I also have some curious inclinations to dabble in Restoration and Illusion magic. I feel like if I can learn just enough I can depend less on healing potions and focus more on carrying deadly poisons (for my soon to be once I complete the Thieves Guild) Nightingale Bow of Burning!

I am so far helping the Blades and will be infiltrating the Thalmor Embassy shortly after I return to Riften to tend to my Guild's needs and fence loot and quest items. Once that is settled I can journey across the land back to Solitude and take care of this important mission.

Dragons.....oh yes I have seen many already. And I am slaying them with a mighty force. My archery has been steadily becoming all powerful, coupled with my shouts and alchemy to poison my arrow tips, I am fast becoming a legend in Skyrim.

My name is Serratus, I am a Wood Elf and member of The Thieves Guild where I will bring glory and fear back to Riften. Those who get in my way will meet their death swiftly and silently......IN THE SHADOWS!

Well a 2 gig update takes a while. There are whole games that aren't that big. And the wife is watching Netflix so we aren't attaining maximized dl speed here.  Although I guess all things considered 12 Mbps isn't bad.

Had an awesome day so far. Saw the headless horseman for the first time. Got attacked by the Dark Brotherhood. Had a contract put on me by a dead person. Killed a random dragon. Took out a bunch of bandits.

Have never really done conjuration beyond soul trap but wanted to use it this time. Summoned my first flame antronach and killed a bunch of spriggins.

What election?

So as I headed into the Bee and Barb in Riften and I played a drinking game.....got lit and "A Night To Remember" started. I woke up still in a drunken stooper in the Temple of Mara in Markarth. So I am now heading back to Riften (on foot and sometimes stolen horses) and along that long journey back we shall adventure yet again! My horse Melky and trusted friend Kharjo are in Riften probably wondering what happened to me!

Anyone playing the SE edition on PC?  Can't imagine even attempting it without a UI mod and it looks like SkyUI may not happen.  I just got a new pc recently, so my modded original Skyrim is gone.  I was going to start up again with the SE, but without a UI mod, may just load back up the old one and mod it.

UI mods for the oblivion were the main reason I started trying to mod games.  Huge difference when you are playing on PC and the UI's are all designed for console now.

I also find it pretty embarrassing that with this release they didn't even try to go in and fix their bugs that are fixed by the unofficial patch.  That's just lazy to me, hell just go buy the patch updates from the authors and code review them, sure that wouldn't have cost much money at all and at least feel like they "finished" the game for the SE.

Quit my full mage. I simply did not enjoy the game play. Switched to playing a thief that dabbles in the magics (will not use a bow and will only use daggers for melee) and I am enjoying this much more.

Is the headless horseman part of the main gain or DLC or mod?  I have played the game a couple of times with the main DLC and have never seen it.  I'd like to, if it's possible on PS4/XB1

Ok, so I explored a little today with my sneaky archer. For those that played this way, how do you deal with more than one guy coming at you. The speed at which I shoot was far slower than the speed at which they were attacking. I want to stay in character and only use a bow. Any suggestions.

I.will use magic to help me regenerate health though

Head shots and I start backing up if they get close enough, although I will run away and hide and then just keep going at them plinking them off one by one. It can be a slow process sometimes. I spent about an hour on top of a cliff clearing out camp when I was lower level.

As Hawks64  said, you need to get distance from melee attackers, it's ok to run sometimes. Using poisons helps.

I have a archer only I play sometimes and decided a hunter should be able to set traps so I used the destruction tree to get runes.  I don't look at is as magic but traps.

Thx for tips guys. I kept my distance and found a cave I have never been in on my way to riften. Kept my distance while sneaking the whole time. Cleared it pretty easily and got some sweet gear. Some staff that is worth 4600 gold and something else that was sweet also which I cant remember. Think it was a dwarf hammer. It was after I freed what looked like a glowing groot and he and I double teamed the old witch.

You could lose hours to this. Had to force myself to come up to sleep

Its part of the main game. You hear the bards sing about him in taverns. And this was on XB1. I never saw him my first couple of times I played on 360 though. And I did have all the dlc.

I saw him last night, chased him but could never catch up long enough to engage him. Is there something I need to do?

I don't think you can engage him. You can follow him and he disappears in a certain area that confirms facts in the song but I think that's it. I chased him as well and lost him.

You can lose days to this game. I've done the whole as soon as I am done with this dungeon crawl I'll go to bed...get out of the dungeon, wait I haven't seen this before. What's this cave/camp/etc? Oh look another thing I haven't seen before? Oh #### a Dragon, or Dragon priest...have to get that done.

Getting ready to dive back into this on XB1. I've checked out the mods in this thread and online - any new ones to report? And if I choose to start somewhere else, are the choices unlimited or do I just get to pick from a couple of places? I sunk hundreds of hours into the first one, so it will be interesting to see how much time I spend on this one - can't wait...

Does the Silian Manor come with all of the contents prefab? If so, is there a mod that just gives you a deed and lets you build / fill on your own? I've grown bored of the 3 options / locations n the DLC.

Come fully furnished as I described. It's a mini mansion.

I know its been said, but what happens to my game if I add those two now that im 2 or so hours in.

And does load order matter in these mods

You should be ok.  Load order does matter in some cases, but if your game doesnt crash on loading and you dont notice anything funny, you're most likely ok.  Most mods will tell you in the description if it needs to be in a certain place in load order.

The way load order works is that if you have two things that change something about the game the one that gets loaded last takes precedence.  Sometimes though, it can lead to crashes if certain mods conflict.

Nothing, they just show up. And yes load order matters for just those two the clouds one goes last. Are you using any other mods?

Most mods will tell you in the description if there is a preferred place in the load order. Or if they don't work with certain other mods.

You can add / subtract mods once you start, You will get a warning message when you delete a mod then load a game where it was there at the last save, but it's ignorable.

Building out Blackthorn (mod where you can build a town). Pretty cool. I can't even imagine what the next game is going to be like (whether it is Elder Scrolls or another Fallout) when they start combining all of the little features like settlement building.

As an aside, is there a mod that will let you scrap things like (unenchanted) armor and weapons?

OMGOMGOMG THERE'S A MOD WHERE YOU CAN BUILD A TOWN!?!?!?!

I'm rocking a nerdboner the likes of which I've never experienced before.

I'm playing my current character getting to "super archer" stats in the hopes of one-shot killing a dragon eventually. It occurred to me that I've never Before gone through the Bard guild quest line in Solitude. Any tips/suggestions before I get started?

It's pretty simple. No real prep needed.

Had a minor setback this weekend. I somehow had a corrupted file that caused a crash any time I opened up my weapon inventory and scrolled down to an Iron Dagger. I uninstalled all the mods, saved, and tried again and still it caused a crash. I tried numerous other work arounds that didnt work and eventually gave up and started over. I was only level 22 so while painful, it didnt stop my from starting over.

The perk that staggers with a bow helps. Back pedal shoot one, stagger him, shoot the other, stagger him, repeat.  Also putting paralysis on your bow accomplishes the same thing.

Summoning something to tank for you. Getting out of sight and turning invisible. Hitting them with a calm/paralysis/etc if it gets hairy.

I decided my first order of business for Ricru Zybro, my sneaky archer was to get the skeleton key. So im going through the thieves guild stuff to land it. I will not be returning it.

I have loaded up on archer skills but never took the stagger one. Will do that next. Thx Greg

So, as you get better with sneak, will enemies not see you even right in front of them. I was playing last night and two guys ran right by me while I was right in front of them. Seemed like a glitch but would rock if it continued.

How are guys loading mods on the PC? Through Nexus? Or in game?
I use Nexus Mod Manager.  It's pretty easy to use.
If I was starting fresh I would go with Mod Organizer.  I used NMM for the longest time, and the differences between them are not huge. But from what I've seen of both, Mod Organizer is slightly better if you hit a really bad conflict.

But if you have a good working install already using NMM, the differences are negligible enough I wouldn't bother switching. Only if I was going from a vanilla install again.

Also, arrows poisoned with Slow can help slow people down too.

Basically yes.  Sneak is very powerful.  I usually use a mod that more heavily factors in light and movement to make it more realistic.

Also, on sneaking... if you're sneaking you do extra damage. I think there's a Sneak perk specific to bows. Or maybe it's in Archery.

Anyway, the sneak multiplier applies to weapon enchantments and poisons too.  Since as an archer your first attack is normally a sneak attack, you should really consider loading up your arrows with poisons.

I'd have arrows that are multiple damage types, ones that are damage with slow or paralyze, and ones that damage magicka and also drain magicka regen 100% so spell casters are quickly depleted and can't regen for new spells.
