Geno Smith Punched By Teammate out 6-10wks (1 Viewer)

Wow.....

To those suggesting this is an upgrade for the Jets, did you see Fitzpatrick play last year for Houston?
Did you watch Geno play last year?
Who cares? Geno is eight years younger and has more athletic ability in his dirty drawers than Fitz does in his entire body. Fitz may be a better QB today, and possibly (probably?) always will be, but it does no good for the Jets franchise to delay Smith's development by even a day. They need to know now if he is the guy, not later in the season.

And heaven forbid Fitz keeps them hovering around .500 because that will make it even tougher to justify putting Smith on the field pushing the decision on his franchise status back even further.

No, this is a bad thing for the Jets on every level.

WOW. How big of an anger problem would you have to have to just end your own career like that? Nobody is signing that ####### guy.
If he's good people will sign him. Tom Cable the hawks Oline coach busted another coaches jaw and he's coaching the best team in all of football.
A fight between coaches is different than a nobody dropping the team's starting QB for 10 weeks. Think about how selfish that is, what a bad decision that is. Nothing like Cable's situation.
You can say that again!

:lmao:

Good luck getting another job...

Outside of New England, I can't see another team picking this guy up.
He was a 6th round pick last year with limited playing time on a bad team. I honestly don't think he gets picked up anywhere. There are plenty of other 6th round talent guys without anger and judgement issues floating around on the free agents list.

Agree... Maybe the Pats bring him into camp just to #### with the Jets, but outside of that, I see prison in his future.

I fail to see any humor in this. It is sad and disheartening, I am not sure what Geno Smith did to engender so much dislike that people are actually happy to see this happen to him. It is a real shame too because I didn't think the book was written on his career (still don't) and I think Chan Gailey was a good fit to help develop Smith as a QB.

Fitzpatrick is certainly the better QB today and has familiarity with Gailey so it will be good for the Jets in the short term (very short term) but what does that mean? A .500 record (at best) and still needing to see if Smith can develop into a legitimate NFL QB? Fitz is not the answer for any team at QB, he is a journeyman who can hold down the fort for a few weeks at the most. No, this is a bad thing for the Jets, for the idiot who punched him and most of all for Geno.
Sad? I wouldn't call it sad. Geno was probably being a tool and got lit up. Is it a ridiculously stupid thing to do by the LB in question? Absolutely. If anything, I feel sorry for the rest of the team. It's a moronic way to lose your starting QB.

I certainly don't feel sorry for Geno Smith though. If you don't want to get knocked out, stop mouthing off and getting into altercations with your teammates. Be a leader and learn how to diffuse situations like this as apposed to making them worse.

Percy Harvin punched Golden Tate and Doug Baldwin....he's still playing.
Neither of them missed time and it was also mostly kept in-house.
Never mind the fact that Harvin is about 170 pounds with a brick in his pants while this guy is a backup linebacker going at least 260

Remember on draft day thanking God that someone drafted him after Day 1 fiasco. Now it seems he might have been better off starting in Calgary or Winnipeg

Yes. I agree. I was just starting to have some hope for Geno and don't think this is a good thing for the team at all. Pointing to last year though doesn't work in some one's favor for making that argument.

Bills can sign him. He will help make the 3 way QB battle a 2 way battle before the end of tomorrow.

I will disagree a bit however. The Jets have what looks to be an elite defense and have a pretty decent collection of skill players on offense. Adequate quarterback play could land this team in the playoffs.

Agreed. Although Houston also had a pretty good defense and a couple nice WR's ... but I get your point.

Houston finished 9-7 last season.

Word is Geno Smith put his finger in the face of IK Enemkpali’s during and argument that wasn’t getting difused. Then came the punch
If this is true, that isn't a "sucker punch". That's one guy being bold enough to invade another guy's personal space in a disrespectful manner and getting put to sleep.
It still could completely be a sucker punch. Wagging a finger doesn't automatically indicate, we are now ready to fight, make the first move.

It's possible he threw the punch as Geno was turning away, or something...

I don't know where you grew up but I learned at a very young age that a finger pointed in someone's face is loosely translated to "please knock me the ##### out".

In all seriousness, that's not what I expect out of my starting QB.

1. What's he doing in a "childish" argument with a teammate?

2. Why is he making said childish argument worse by demeaning said teammate instead of trying to diffuse the situation like a true leader would do?

Both players involved sound like complete idiots and as much as the Jets probably didn't want to lose their starting QB, maybe this makes it very clear that Smith didn't have the maturity to handle the position to begin with.

There are too many thugs in the NFL. Some day teams may figure out that drafting these punks isn't worth the trouble.

Nahhhh it will never happen.

Another good point. I forgot they did that well.

Not in my house

Geno: Yo Momma can't spell! Look at your f##$ing name!

Reunited with the guy that got the best out of him in 2011 or so and, to be honest, Texans QB play as a whole has been terrible for a while. May be the system more than the player.

I agree with his statement. No way your starting QB should ever be in this situation.
I don't know how someone can possibly say that without knowing exactly how things went down. Awfully bold move to blame the victim without knowing the circumstances, especially when the team's coach referred to it as a sucker punch.
