Geno Smith Punched By Teammate out 6-10wks (1 Viewer)

@RapSheet 34s35 seconds ago
Word is Geno Smith put his finger in the face of IK Enemkpali’s during and argument that wasn’t getting difused. Then came the punch
If this is true, that isn't a "sucker punch". That's one guy being bold enough to invade another guy's personal space in a disrespectful manner and getting put to sleep.
I fail to see any humor in this. It is sad and disheartening, I am not sure what Geno Smith did to engender so much dislike that people are actually happy to see this happen to him. It is a real shame too because I didn't think the book was written on his career (still don't) and I think Chan Gailey was a good fit to help develop Smith as a QB.

Fitzpatrick is certainly the better QB today and has familiarity with Gailey so it will be good for the Jets in the short term (very short term) but what does that mean? A .500 record (at best) and still needing to see if Smith can develop into a legitimate NFL QB? Fitz is not the answer for any team at QB, he is a journeyman who can hold down the fort for a few weeks at the most. No, this is a bad thing for the Jets, for the idiot who punched him and most of all for Geno.
Sad? I wouldn't call it sad. Geno was probably being a tool and got lit up. Is it a ridiculously stupid thing to do by the LB in question? Absolutely. If anything, I feel sorry for the rest of the team. It's a moronic way to lose your starting QB.

I certainly don't feel sorry for Geno Smith though. If you don't want to get knocked out, stop mouthing off and getting into altercations with your teammates. Be a leader and learn how to diffuse situations like this as apposed to making them worse.
Who cares? And you have no earthly idea of what precipitated this. Maybe the guy who thinks it's ever a good idea to throw punches because someone sticks their finger in his face was being a tool in the first place? Anyone who thinks having someone put their finger in their face is 1) disrespectful regardless of context and 2) worthy of throwing down over has serious mental issues.

If you think the appropriate response to having a finger pointed in your face is to punch someone then you probably don't deserve respect in the first place.

It still could completely be a sucker punch. Wagging a finger doesn't automatically indicate, we are now ready to fight, make the first move.
It does if you are an idiot.

Looooooooooooollllllllll come on, Cris
I agree with his statement. No way your starting QB should ever be in this situation.
I don't know how someone can possibly say that without knowing exactly how things went down. Awfully bold move to blame the victim without knowing the circumstances, especially when the team's coach referred to it as a sucker punch.
Yes ... very bold. In my experience, people don't get knocked out without reason. When is the last time you heard of a veteran QB getting punched by a teammate? I feeling pretty comfortable with my stance here. The number of scenarios where I'm right greatly out weigh the number of scenarios where I'm wrong. I'll take those odds.

This can be situational and depending on the context of the conversation.

With that being said, any disposable/fringe player in a locker room should be well aware you don't hit a teammate if you're looking to make a squad, regardless of what he said. Furthermore, the guy in the red jersey who isn't allowed to be touched on the field might also be off limits in the locker room.

And heaven forbid Fitz keeps them hovering around .500 because that will make it even tougher to justify putting Smith on the field pushing the decision on his franchise status back even further.
I will disagree a bit however. The Jets have what looks to be an elite defense and have a pretty decent collection of skill players on offense. Adequate quarterback play could land this team in the playoffs.
I know. That's the problem. Hostetler and Dilfer managed to parlay that kind of defense into a Super Bowl but my money is not on Fitz being able to do the same. Fitz isn't the long term solution but he may be just adequate enough to keep them in the wild card hunt into November/December. So it becomes another wasted year not knowing if Geno can become their franchise QB.

I don't remember questioning that the LB is a tool. In fact I think that is foregone conclusion considering he's a 6th round draft pick on a bad team that just clocked his starting QB leading to him ending his professional football career. How much more of a tool can you be???

1. I can't think of any context where someone pointing their finger in my face wouldn't be disrespectful other than to point out my fantastic complexion.

2. OK ... so walk into a bar some time and start pointing your finger in people's faces and berating them and see what happens.

Bottom line if you owe somebody money pay your debt. Don't be surprised if you get punched in the face if you don't.
Boomer doesn't just throw things out there randomly...
Would have to be a wager of some kind, right? I mean, I doubt Geno borrowed money from a 6th round pick, did he?
It will all come out... I'm actually very excited to see an interview with this guy.

If he was smart, he would only interview with the highest bidder, being that he longer has an income and doesn't appear to be very smart.

A bar? That's a little bit of stretch, you think?

I can't imagine too many people get punched if they do it at their workplace.
A workplace? That's a bit of a stretch also. :)

Seriously though. I think the mentality in a pro football locker room is much much closer to a bar than my workplace.

IK Enemkpali, please pick up the white courtesy phone, the Chicago Bears would like you to meet with their QB.

Gross to the rescue!!

@randgetlin: I'm told the #Jets reached out to Rex Grossman, who is dealing with an injury he suffered in training. Will need a few weeks to get ready.

Craig Carton (Boomer's NY radio partner) says it was for $1000.
:lmao:

Out his $510k salary, plus an extra $1k. Net loss, $511k. He'll prob need help with these numbers.

Wow.....

To those suggesting this is an upgrade for the Jets, did you see Fitzpatrick play last year for Houston?
Reunited with the guy that got the best out of him in 2011 or so and, to be honest, Texans QB play as a whole has been terrible for a while. May be the system more than the player.
Forgot about the Gailey Fitz connection but he looked awful in Houston last year. And last year was the first year that system was in place there. Before that Schaub actually had some good years in Houston before becoming terrible.

Fitz fit with Chan's offense well. Until Devin Smith went down and Williams fell to the Jets, people were speculating the Jets might get Cooper if he fell and then run a spread. They still might do so with Marshall, Decker, Kerley, and Smith when he returns.

It's not catastrophic. Ivory and Stacy and Ridley become more involved now. That's all.

1) Well, if you are a sixth round knucklehead LB who is mouthing off (perhaps actually being disrespectful) then maybe you deserve to have someone get in your face and tell you to ####.

2) Who cares? There are tons of idiots in the world who think violence is the appropriate response to anything short of complete deference.

Hmmmmm ... I think we are venturing toward an area where we are arguing the same point.

1. Geno is an idiot ... check.

2. LB in question (no I'm not going to waste the time to commit his name to memory) is an idiot ... check.

3. Anyone who would randomly knock someone else out without reason or provocation is an idiot ... check.

I think the only thing we have to tidy up is the fact that only one of us thinks you shouldn't be surprised that you got laid out when you were in a heated argument pointing your finger in someone else's face. Not saying it's right in all scenarios ... just saying you shouldn't be surprised.

Geno is supposed to be the leader of that team. He shouldn't be owing anybody money.

Without knowing more that locker room doesn't respect him if somebody was comfortable enough to throw a punch at him. Crazy story.

So I assume you would agree that Roger Staubach was a poor leader that deserved to be punched in the face?

Responding to non-violence with violence is seldom right in any scenario. And yeah, you're pretty much defending it. Do you just not like Geno?

In my experience the people who demand respect the loudest deserve it the least.

The J-E-T-S are a car wreck. Always have been, always will be.

Your starting QB gets his jaw separated from his face over $600.

:lmao:

This.

The fact that Enemkawhatever walked out of the facility under his own power is a pretty clear sign that the team doesn't value Geno. If this was Brady, the puncher would be on a stretcher. All the bull#### unnecessary roughness penalties that Willie Colon takes and he lets a borderline guy suckerpunch his starting QB? Give me a freaking break.
