Round 12 - finally catch'n up.
I am still not super clear on some of the category sub-types; this track is listed as: "Blues rock/indie rock/trip hop/neo-soul" according to Wikipedia; so I think I am in the clear.
12.xx The Heavy - Short Change Hero (R&B; 2009) - Spotify link
I came across this accidentally around its release date, in '09. I have absolutely no clue as to how "mainstream" it is. It has been on my favorites playlist since then. The lyrics, while not as powerful to me as some of my earlier picks, are still strong imo.

I can't see where you comin' from
But I know just what you runnin' from
And what matters ain't the, who's baddest but
The ones who stop you fallin' from your ladder, baby
Feel like you feelin' now
I'm doin' things just to please your crowd
When I love you like the way I love you
And I suffer, but I ain't gonna cut you 'cause
This ain't no place for no hero
This ain't no place for no better man
This ain't no place for no hero

Every time I close my eyes, I think
I think about you inside
And your mother, givin' up on askin' why
Why you lie, and you cheat, and you try to make
A fool outta she
I can't see where you comin' from
But I know just what you're runnin' from
And what matters ain't the, who's baddest but the
Ones who stop you fallin' from your ladder, 'cause

I have no idea what genre "Weapon of Choice" is.
very good d lineman as wellDr. Octopus said:Round 12
Genre - R&B
Cold Little Heart - Michael Kiwanuka
This kind of straddles the line between R&B and Rock but his soulful delivery pushes it into what would have been considered soul/R&B in the past. He's a pretty diverse and impressive artist nevertheless.
I have a 10-year-old daughter who had an Echo and an Apple Music subscription atop her Christmas list.I think this is pop, but I don't even know what pop is...
@Eephus12.xx Titus Andronicus - A More Perfect Union (Punk/Emo/Hardcore/Metal/Screamo/Cookie Monster/Grover; 2010)
I saw these guys in a SLC garage venue on this tour. Sadly, there were only about 100 people there. It was an awesome show.
Way behind here, and the FBG forum being down earlier didn't help.I think I fixed it.PS. Not sure if it's just me, but the spreadsheet is bugging out. All the info on the Draft Sheet tab is gone.
Rd 13 Charli XCX and Rita Ora- Doing It
Waited so long just to be here
And now we're bringing this back to life
If you go Data -> Filter Views -> None, does it fix it?Not on my end, unfortunately.![]()
As someone who’s listened (read: been subjected) to pop music on a daily basis since my daughter was old enough to say the phrase “Hits 1” ... 2015 is the decade’s best year in pop like Mike Trout is the decade’s best ballplayer: it’s not close.POP!
13.xx - Uptown Funk - Bruno Mars + Mark Ronson
I was going to try to sneak this in as R & B, but I think that it fits better in pop.
Fun song, even if they did steal it from The Sequence.
I'm fairly certain I'm the one who screwed it up
and I don't really know how to unscrew it up, so I'm settling for getting back to a possibly usable version.####in love the dragonsAs someone who’s listened (read: been subjected) to pop music on a daily basis since my daughter was old enough to say the phrase “Hits 1” ... 2015 is the decade’s best year in pop like Mike Trout is the decade’s best ballplayer: it’s not close.
There are a ton of fun, catchy tunes from that year’s chart like “Uptown Funk” that I’ll still sing along to when they pop up on our family’s playlists - many of them by artists whose other stuff is junk. And - hey, wait a minute! - it’s almost like I scripted that intro:
Genre: Pop
13.01 - Imagine Dragons - “I Bet My Life” (2015)
Really dig the 2/4/4/6 time sig in this chorus.
Love them, love this song. Had a chance to see them in a couple of weeks, but even lawn tickets were pricey and went fast. So I'm seeing Anderson .Paak and Vampire Weekend (seperate shows) for about the same price as The 1975.Round 13 - The 1975 - Chocolate (pop)
The 1975 is one of the few current guitar bands that's had any any success crossing over to Pop. Their personnel still follows the archetypal rock band structure of the past half century--four lads from Manchester with a cheeky pretty boy frontman. But they've been able to reach "big stage at Coachella" level of popularity by using rock as one of many entry points into their unique sound including Pop, Dance, Ambient and House.
They've released three albums that have succeeded commercially and artistically, which is the 21st century equivalent of six albums in terms of career longevity. Chocolate was their first worldwide hit. It's irresistibly catchy but not quite annoying.
Rihanna was one of my first thoughts for both R&B and pop. She has like 20 songs worthy of being picked in this draft.Round 13.xx
Genre - Pop
Artist - Rihanna
Song - (Only Girl) In The World
I think this is pop, but I don't even know what pop is...whatever it is, it's a great club song. Night at the Roxbury heads, unite! Nod your heads. I was going to go with another one, but she ripped off Michael Jackson WHO I DO NOT FEEL BAD FOR. Anyway, this song will suffice as being dope. I'm not sure which of her songs really does it for me -- they all do. Ms. Fenty, do your thing.
Same, at least dance is coming up next round, so I can basically double dip.Really struggling to decide on a pop song. So many options.
Since the Dragons were already taken in this category, I assume you're talking about our other favourite band and yeah, I'd say the newer stuff is.@Northern Voice is our favourite band pop? Some of their songs? I can't decide.
Funny you should mention...That was the pick I mentioned being unsure about in terms of category, so I'll see if this works. Whole album is dope.Love them, love this song. Had a chance to see them in a couple of weeks, but even lawn tickets were pricey and went fast. So I'm seeing Anderson .Paak and Vampire Weekend (seperate shows) for about the same price as The 1975.
Although now I'm looking at verified resale tickets for $48, hmmmm.
I've had a few .Paak songs on the shortlist, happy to see him get picked. Big fanFunny you should mention...That was the pick I mentioned being unsure about in terms of category, so I'll see if this works. Whole album is dope.
12.09 Anderson .Paak, Heart Don't Stand a Chance (R&B/Neo-Soul; 2016)
