Genrepalooza Presents: FG Radio - Tons of Lithium but very little Chill (2 Viewers)

247.8 or 12 - Nekfeu (feat. Ed Sheeran) - Reuf  (Featuring...)

My daughter covers her French Hip Hop and Ed Sheeran bases with a single pick.

Sheeran's appearance on the chorus lifts the song up even though he's singing in a different language from the rest of the song. I have no idea what Nekfeu is rapping about but the downtempo 90 second coda doesn't do anything for me.

I think I took this one before and mixed up what specific version I needed.   A chance to take song with 2 of my obsessions from the last 5 years.   To be safe we need the one re-recorded for 13 Reasons Why.

FEATURING....

Tonight we're moving slowly while the cavalry moves in for the kill...

Somehow 1:31 seems like it's asking for some cushion. I always wanted to cover this in a pop/punk band back in the nineties. Alas, the newer version of the Misfits did. It was terrible. Could have been so good.

Bonus 50s on 5

Gee, I wonder whose guitar playing I should spotlight first?

Round 247:

Guitar Hero

Danger Bird -- Neil Young and Crazy Horse

As mentioned in this song's entry in my Neil countdown, Lou Reed had this to say about it:

(Neil's guitar playing on this song) makes me cry, it is the best I have heard in my life. The guy is a spectacular guitarist, those melodies are so marvelous, so calculated, constructed note to note… he must have killed to get those notes. It puts my hairs on end.
It was also my #3 song in my "next 100" countdown of 1975. It's not known among non-Neil die-hards as much as it should be, probably because Cortez the Killer received all the attention when Zuma came out, and because for some reason Neil didn't perform Danger Bird live until 15 years after its release.

There are spectacular live versions on the Year of the Horse soundtrack and on the new archival release Way Down in the Rust Bucket.

I guess not. 😄

I'm replacing yesterday's storytelling song with this one. Also, today is guitar hero day, and I wanted to add that I think David Rawlings is one of the best guitarist around. He usually plays an archtop guitar that he found in a friend's garage, and it had no strings, bridge, and was covered in sawdust. He liked the sound it gave when he knocked on it, and the feel of it, so he did a trade with his friend, and had it fixed up. He is always on Gillian Welch's albums, and she is part of the David Rawlings Band. They are a couple and music partners, and originally met at the Berkelee College of Music.

Round 246

Caleb Meyer - Gillian Welch  (Storytellers)
