Do we want to toss these on the playlist every day? I would lean yes but figure the group should make the call.Well since it seems @krista4's reveal has been released (and I'm on my way out), as promised I will list "my idiots" (from the original thread) corresponding song choices each day:
My Idiots #31
Scooter
Oliver’s Army – Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Doug
Son of a Preacher Man – Dusty Springfield
Jeb
Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying – Gerry & The Pacemakers
Chap
The Night – The Moody Blues
Same...but that's not surprising coming from meWow, a lot of artists I don't think I've ever heard of. Looking forward to listening tonight.
If John Peel was pulling this list together, he’d have this higher than 31, as he called it his favorite song and even had some of its lyrics engraved on his tombstone. Just poppy goodness.
45 sougs....3 hours and 16 minutesYeah 22 minutes songs can really “kill” a playlist![]()
Even though I'm just a bystander, I would say "yes". These are the folks that got this thing started.Do we want to toss these on the playlist every day? I thought the Stereo MCs were Americans and were putting on their accents, like Spike on Buffy the Vampire SlayerYeah, the Maxine Nightingale thing messed me up when I saw her on shuke's list. And I only found out during the US countdown that The La's were English.![]()

Nigel AND the Kazoo Boys as opposed to Nigel WITH the Kazoo Boys.386Since I'm working on the artist rankings right now...guesses as to total number of artists in this countdown? For reference, in the US countdown we had 36 lists submitted with 526 different artists.
WINNER! We had a 21-way tie for 352nd place (one point), meaning we had 372 separate artists.
Oops. 371 rather than 372. There was an artist I missed who had a one-pointer and a two-pointer, and I had counted them separately.
I reallythe bed forgetting about Asia.

I like all of these except Bittersweet Symphony (sorry GBY23F). That sounds like what I'd imagine the Pit of Despair sounds like when it's really rocking out or if you whacked a bag full of cats with a rubber hose.One-Point Selections:

Two songs I did not know, at all, and really liked a lot. The Chas & Dave song has to be the most “British” this round.
Cream seems obvious to me, which means it's probably wrong...
Correct. I mean, correct that you're wrong. The answer is George Harrison.
The highest-ranked female artist is at #21.
ELO wins over Oasis.
Now to the 1-pointers!
When we get to a certain point in this, the chalk dust will be flying all over, I expect. And I can already tell reading my list must have been like drinking Maaylox it's so chalky.
I don't think you'll be alone here. Great song and I love this version.I counted 17 songs/artists I'd never heard of in the opening round. There are several others I recognize the artist name, but don't know if I've ever heard the song. Looks like I'm gonna hear a lot of new music right away.
I don't expect a lot of you to be into Motorhead. Hell, I don't even listen to their music all that often. My selection was more of a nod to a pioneering, sneering, hard living, working class, rock and roll band. Lemmy Kilmister didn't give a ****. He was the epitome of the rock and roll lifestyle. Motorhead is now an institution. They're music, persona, and influence live on through countless other bands. I think Ace of Spades sums them up nicely. Its fast, aggressive, gritty.....it takes your woman, steals your bottle, and kicks your teeth in.
It's not my fault that Krista listed me first.Yeah 22 minutes songs can really “kill” a playlist![]()
I discovered it some months back when I created an iTunes “radio station” from a CSN song I loved- “Helplessly Hoping”.I’ve obviously heard of Graham Nash, but I was not familiar with this song. Kind of derivative of early Dylan but I did really like.
Some Brits really DO sound just that British.I thought the Stereo MCs were Americans and were putting on their accents, like Spike on Buffy the Vampire SlayerYeah, the Maxine Nightingale thing messed me up when I saw her on shuke's list. And I only found out during the US countdown that The La's were English.![]()
So over the top.
They're not a band I listen to much but Ace of Spades is monstrous. Bonus points for being covered by Ween in their live sets occasionally.I counted 17 songs/artists I'd never heard of in the opening round. There are several others I recognize the artist name, but don't know if I've ever heard the song. Looks like I'm gonna hear a lot of new music right away.

I thought about trying to slip past a Sir Douglas Quintet song to see if they were presumed to be British.I had no idea Maxine Nightingale was British. How can she be British and Sixpence be from Texas? Doesn’t seem right.
I confused Spencer Davis with Sir Douglas and did not consider them eligible. I still like my pick best for the ace, but surprised no one submitted Video Killed the Radio Star. The Ace Award goes to the artist who has the highest score but only one song selected. Guesses for the award were the tiebreaker question for the SUPER-AWESOME-MEGA-CONTEST!!!111.

This whole thing started when Doc Oc created a thread counting down the top 31 songs by US artists that his text chain of five middle-aged idiots came up with. The thread was very well-received and we decided to do our own US countdown. Now both us and them are doing a British Isles countdown. For us newbs, what means this?Well since it seems @krista4's reveal has been released (and I'm on my way out), as promised I will list "my idiots" (from the original thread) corresponding song choices each day:

I'm gonna have to check that version out......Having listened to the Deaner album, which I thought was pretty damn good, I feel like that's more his style? They're not a band I listen to much but Ace of Spades is monstrous.
