WE DID IT! Finally.

Two movie theme songs today and another version of a song recorded specifically for a movie. Hmmmm.

My special shout-out goes to simey's choice of "Linger" by the Cranberries. "Zombie" seems to be the song of choice around here, but "Linger" has always been my favorite. Also, Ilov80s chose one of my two favorite Kate Bush songs.

Not a lot of new-to-me listening today, but I'm excited to hear the few I don't know.

Linger is one I noticed too. Zombie is an auto-skip for for me.

It got some radio play, but McDonalds corporate people did not approve of the negative slant about a place with Happy Meals and expressed their objection to most of the major radio groups in the country. More specifically: The double title "War Pigs / Luke's Wall" was from the track listing on the U.S.-released album label itself. Later U.S. editions might just have it as "War Pigs".

There are a lot of 80s power ballads, some of them very good, a lot of them very terrible. But they tended to all kind of follow the same pattern; a slow, quiet building intro with some bombastic drums and searing crazy guitar solos that just came across, well, douchy after a while. (I'm thinking probably most explicitly of "Angel" by Aerosmith and "Heaven" by Warrant, especially the latter, which is just so gawdawful.) Def has a song sorta like this with Love Bites, and there are many, many to choose from. So now that I've backed my way into this, I'll note that this song sort of backs its way into its own power, too, with that sort of subtle guitar riff intro, which leads to a somewhat midtempo ballad, a slow song, but not agonizingly so. I find it very spare in its longing, and really think it's one of their gems.

She was 7 years into piano lessons and burning out, but could not take her eyes off of Neil.

When I first heard Delores growl out Zahhmmbeee Zahhmmbee...dat's about the most memorable moment of the 90s, but Linger may be the better song start to finish for me.
