I drove 13.5 hours today from NC to Kansas City. Google Maps before the trip said it should take 13 hours and 40 minutes.
The unprecedented happened. Family of 5. Three stops. 905 miles.

Stop 1: 20 minutes. Gas, bathroom, food - all at Buc-ees. In and out in 20 minutes. That in itself is damn near impossible.

Stop 2: 9 MINUTES. GAS, BATHROOM, SNACKS. The stop of all stops.

Stop 3: 3 MINUTES!!! Highway rest area. Easy on and off.

I hope you fellas realize how amazing this is. Today was the culmination of 17 years of training.

ChiefD’s Opus. I’m so proud of them I could cry.

this is a little bit longer than it takes my family of 4 to make what should be a 6.5 hour drive.

you're a freaking magician

I’m driving from Detroit to Orlando next weekend (splitting into 2 days)
Tempted to slip my wife an ambien so we don’t have to stop to pee every hour
Then we get to do it all over again a week later (also over 2 days)
The force is strong in my wife. She will happily Pee on the side of the road. She has passed this on to our daughter. I’m A Lucky man.

My condolences on going to Orlando. I was on I-4 last Thursday and Friday and got an extra hour and a half of drive time thanks to seemingly nothing.

16 year old daughter has a girlfriend over. They just told me that 3 boys were coming over. It’s midnight. Yea…no.

Shoulda told her "Sure, they can come over. I'll be meeting them at the door in my flounciest of scarves and taking photos with each of them to post to Insta."

My condolences on going to Orlando.
This. Whatever the reason. This x100.

I must admit...I still get a little secret, metaphysical smile any time I pause to think "It's been X years since we left central FL."

I'm not going to name names but it looks like we only have 6 more threads to go on stuff that is kind of ridiculous to talk about.

The early ones got some traction but it looks like the rest are just dying slow deaths.

A few years ago they would have been pushed off the first page in hours and a decade ago it would've been minutes.

On Friday we drive from Chicago to Sarasota, 2 days down, and then the following weekend 3 days back (will stop in Macon to visit a cousin on the way back who has horses for the kids to ride around on). I hope for the 5 minute pit stops, but I know they will turn into 20 minutes magically. As long as the minivan makes it back in one piece I will be happy.

Drove NJ to Florida and we have one longish stop usually the second stop ~15-20 minutes. The rest are pit and gos ~ every 3 hours

It's all in how you structure them. I try to limit the stops at gas stations if someone just needs to pee. That is an automatic 15 minute stop, because people start browsing around and needs a snack or whatever........too many distractions in a gas station.

Just pee stops HAVE to be at rest areas. Easy on/Easy off. Come in hot - make sure you tell the kids as you are coming in to get off the devices, put on shoes, etc. They can do that while the vehicle is in motion. That saves two minutes EASY. (I like to do this about 5 minutes before I know the stop is coming).

That way when the car hits PARK it's effing ON. Out of the car, walk briskly, get 'er done.

I'm like Ricky Bobby out there. My 15 year old son is my Cal Naughton.

SHAKE AND BAKE!! :headbang:

My rule is we only stop at places I can see from the interstate. None of this "gas/food next exit" and get off on sign points to right *** 2.5 miles

Hi friends.

It's my bday. And I've been in a profound and worsening funk basically since I started my "forever" job in July. Coincidence? I'm so down I can't even tell any more. But the kids are good, so its hard to complain... Yet here I am.
Well ****, that's sounds crappy. Maybe a jaunt to New England would lighten your spirits.

wish the update were better on my part- but I'm always up for a jaunt.

I was at the convenience store this morning. Saw a pickup truck and on the back window was a sticker of a stripper on a pole.

What kind of pole you ask?

A wind turbine pole complete with the blades at the top.

Like this.
i think the average onshore turbine is about 475 feet tall so that would put her at about 375 feet tall and that my friends is a whole lotta woman take that to the bank bromigos

Just got a phone call from my wife. 17 year old son was on his way to an orthodontist appointment and got into his first car accident. The car in front of him slammed on his brakes suddenly and my son ran into him.

Minimal damage to both cars and nobody was hurt.

The other car? A police car.

Go big or go home I always say.

Wow....my post actually got deleted unreal.

Anyway, a confirmed tornado about 15 minutes from my house touched but no injuries.

And the storm has hail and came through the area very very fast

 Glad you're ok.

And for sure, moderators will almost always remove the sex innuendo jokes like that one.

On a serious note, hope the weather clears up there and hope folks are safe.

My middle one (11, 6th grade, 6-8 middle school) doesn’t want to do school soccer even though it’s his favorite sport. Plays for city rec league and practice and seasons overlap but he could likely do both

Little disappointed and I don’t want to push him, but feel like something deeper is keeping him from it. He dropped school swim after 1st meet, but we did kind of force him to join since older bro on team. I think he genuinely didn’t like it, but I also get the impression that he’s worried about failing on a bigger stager. He’s always been kind of shy, but also the type to take over a room if he’s comfortable. He’s probably the best kid on his rec league and embraces it , but with other sports baseball, swim, etc he’s more middle of the pack and I feel like it makes him shy away

Anyway TL:Dr my kid doesn’t want to play for school soccer team even though he’s good at it and it’s his favorite sport. Don’t want to push him but feel like he’s missing a good opportunity to play and bond with future HS teammates. I guess as long as he stays involved in something I should just let him choose

Is it possible rec league and school league is just too much for him?

My son essentially bowed out of school sports because he didn't/doesn't care for most of the "jocks." It was affinity/respect thing for him. He could have played and maybe hung on to soccer and hoops into/through high school. But seeing where he's ended up vs. the kind of kids he didn't want to be associated with, I'm glad we gave him the freedom to choose.

Might not be the same situation, but my gut is if he is generally a good/wise kid give him the choice and respect it. He may not even be able to articulate it yet.

one of my little angels was and is really good at basketball but didnt want to try out for a pretty high level aau team because she was afraid she might get cut and some of the girls on the team were basically pretty petty and i remember being in the driveway rebounding for her and i told her hey if you try out you might make it but if you never try out thats ok with me but you will never know and you will have to always wonder and that hit home with her and she tried out and of course made it and then told me in the car ride on the way home that she hates it when im right which we still laugh about all of these years later i think sometimes that kids just need to hear that it is aok to try out and not succeed or only be a role player and that there is just something good about trying out and having a goal even if you dont achieve it because there is a beauty in the effort that is worthwhile in and of itself take that to the bank brohans

Hostile takeover at my work today. Straight out of the movies. Security escorting the felonious GM out, after they gave him his severance paperwork.

neat

once again I’m not there. New ownership group already reached out to me and I’m valued…bla bla bla. :oldunsure:
