GM's thread about nothing (22 Viewers)

Congo is really a pretty terrible movie.
The book was typical Crichton - great concept and build-up, and no good payoff. And yes, it was still better than the movie.
Completely agree.

I think I end up watching the movie or reading the book once every 5 years or so and never quite learn my lesson.
How they could fail to include in the movie the dramatic discovery that it was apes crushing skulls, in the form of the giant ape statue in the jungle that they stumble upon as written in the book, is beyond me. Crichton wrote out some awesomely dramatic cinematography and they blew it. I remember waiting for that scene in the movie and it never came and I couldn't believe it.

Also planning a New Orleans to Maine road trip. Just going to do the Western one first as there's more of that area I've never explored--haven't been to Oregon, Montana, Idaho before.
Just want to say I'm envious. I love road trips and wish I had the time/money to do this.

I love road trips, too. Really love. It's not a question of money for me, though I intend to be relatively frugal, but TIME is a huge issue. Figure I have to take advantage of this right now and do it while I can.

There will also be a lot of baseball involved. Might make it more appealing for some, less for some. :)

I thought you didn't like non-Nicaraguan baseball.

Krista, I have been meaning to answer your question regarding the Possible Hotness of McNulty. I don't know that I find him hot, necessarily, but I do find myself wanting to take care of him. Cook him a hot meal, maybe lend him some comfy slippers.

A few years back, a few friends and I had the same 64 ounce Bubba Keg insulated travel mug. (used to transport vodka from bar to bar.) To avoid confusion, we all named our Bubba Kegs and wrote their names on them with a Sharpie. I named mine McNulty. McNulty eventually got lost in the shuffle. I can only hope that someone, somewhere, is enjoying him.

I'm sure it's happening... 2 ozs at a time.

I just typed "imbd.com" into the imdb.com search box. Might be time to shut this one down.
I'd love to know how many times people type "google" into the Google search box.

My ex would use the search box that way. I'm sitting there thinking, "just go to the url field and type '.com', #####". :wall:

I grew up with baseball--my family vacations revolved around baseball. If I were feeling more maudlin, I'd post my writings about my (dead) dad and his love of baseball.

But yeah, Nicaraugan beisbol is the best thing ever.

 So awesome. I have determined since posting that...:gavelpound:...not hot. He's just too needy or pathetic or something, which I guess plays into your post. In this case, though, I find it unappealing rather than its appealing to my nurturing side. Still, at a certain camera angle, he looks pretty good. Those are in the minority IMO.

The boys and I are going to a Chuck E Cheese birthday party sans AngryWife in the morning (she's helping a friend move). This sounds like hell on earth, so I'm getting ripped tonight. The only redeeming factor is that some of the preschool moms are pretty hot. I'm sure they'll lover super-hungover bentley.
They have a two beer minimum there, so rest easy, partner.

Finally watching season premier of Mad Men...PV says it'll be a snoozer according to the interwebs.
Think I'm going to fire up season two of the ol' Wires this weekend. Think a one-week break was enough for me to regroup emotionally.
Where can you and I go to talk about it? I hate that you're about to lap me, but I'm about 1/3 of the way done with Season 2 and while a little different, it is no less of an asssssssssssssss kicker.

How did you deal with Wallace? My wife was emotionally wrecked. I've never in my life seen her react that way to a TV show. Only once in real life have I seen her recoil in horror like that. She loved Wallace. :(

Pnc park is consistently voted the best ballpark in MLB. Plus we now have a burger that is 60% beef, 40% bacon, with cheddar cheese, and a fried egg on a toasted sprinkled donut.

I think we were scheduled to discuss when YOU BLEW ME OFF last weekend. ;) Seriously I would like to discuss with someone going along in it, and maybe spoilers are the way to go.

Totally not dealing well; it's why I took a week off. I loved Wallace more than the other characters combined. Might have affected me less as I'd steeled myself since they had telegraphed it for a while. Love that that is what set D off...at least temporarily.I loved that damn Wallace, though.

:excited: We'll be in Pittsburgh area by July in any case. Mr. krista's brother's gf squeezed out a puppy and the happy parents are getting married in July. Isn't there a Permanti (total GM spelling there) at the ballpark, too?

So is this a sign or something? I bought some Powerball tickets just in case.
I interpreted this as meaning you should prepare your will.
Funny, I've been meaning to update it. Should probably call my lawyer Monday.

>

I didn't get on my walk today until very late. Depressing day, cold, cloudy. As I'm walking I get a very serious call from somebody about some potentially life changing stuff and the conversation lasted over two miles. By the time we hang up, I was on the nature trail. It's not exactly in the middle of nowhere but it was in the woods. Right then a squirrel runs across the path about 20 yards in front of me. Except this wasn't any ordinary squirrel. It was brown in the face and body but it had a completely snow white tail. I mean this thing was so white if you compared it to GM you would think Forrest was one of those Nigerian marathon runners. It was really strange to say the least.

It's not quite like seeing an 18-point buck, but whatever floats your boat, Hiawatha.
I've never seen anything like it.
What's it cost to update a will? Mine was $800 after my divorce and I don't have another $800 to spend updating after remarriage and another kid. *OLD UNSURE ICON - SCREW YOU FBG FOR NOT CHANGING IT*

My Saturday morning got a lot better. I still intend to finish getting pissed tonight.

Unfortunately, I think it is a two beer maximum. Pace yourself, grasshopper.

I'm pretty sure this Chuck is in Round Rock. Maybe we can meet up for a 10 a.m. happy hour.

If its the one in round rock I can say this:

1. Perfect 10 is a block away

2. I don't know if this one has beer. They didn't 10 years ago which was the last time I was there.

3. The ski ball is rigged.

Big fan of Perfect 10. I don't think that they will be open or allow two boys under 4 in the place at the time that we'll be there. One of the wildest nights of my life involves bringing home a waitress from Perfect 10 after getting her into into the champagne room at the club.

This is the one I'm looking at

Plus the battery for it is maintenance free.
I have one a lot like that (though older). It's fantastic. We have a french drain that feeds into a sump pit in my basement - my basement is dry as a bone, but when it's raining the sump pump kicks on every couple of minutes. Since we lose power all the time when it rains, the basement would flood immediately without a battery back-up. Despite losing power for almost a week twice in the last year, the battery back-up for the sump pump never failed.

Come to think of it, I might want to look at getting a new battery. I got a Marine battery for that thing, plugged it in, and pretty much haven't looked at it again in the last 6 or 7 years.
Your battery lasted a week? What kind of battery you got in there?

K4 - you WILL be doing Glacier in Montana, yes? Transcendent and I don't think I've ever used that word before. You gotta hit it.

If you go to Maine and can get to Sebago,Lake stay at Migas Lodge. I might have an 'in' for you there. We own an island in the middle of the lake that's worth a day trip. Migas is spendy but well well well worth it. If you get a rain storm at night a more peaceful sleep you will never have anywhere else. Deep in the gorgeous woods with the rain tap dancing off the roof tops. Ahhhhhhh.

If you're going to Vancouver, you might consider Whistler, even in the summer. A European Village with incredible peaks and no shortage of great restaurants and nightlife.

Yes, but if you can do a pretty good job of sealing up the crack from the inside, and then diverting as much water on the surface away from the house you shouldn't have anymore issues. You can probably get away with only digging a 2' wide trench along the house for the length of the crack, the cut side can be shored back against the house with some plywood and 2x4s.

You can also pay people to do the epoxy injection from the inside and they claim it completely seals the crack since it expands into the crack as it cures. Only way to be 100% certain the crack is filled is to expose it from the outside.

Is your basement lower then the rest of the neighborhood (full basement versus split level)? You may just be into the water table during rainy periods.
Yes, lowest point of the neighborhood.

What are you talking about "shoring the cut" side?
