HC Sean Payton, DEN (1 Viewer)

They better play up the Payton vs Hackett drama again soon or else no one is going to watch that once highly anticipated Jets/Broncos game in 2 weeks.

Good chance to win next 2 weeks vs Bears and Jets. Payton has fixed the offense and Russell Wilson. Defense needs alot of work.

Got to be a rough for this team right now. How do they even hold any respect for the HC at this point? Total mess.
whats the contract situation if they want to fire him?

No idea but it's Wal mart money right?

It's not just the money. Denver gave up a 2023 first round pick and a 2nd & 3rd in 2024 to pay this coach all that Walmart money.

But, worry not. These are just growing pains.
Sunk money at this point.

Payton needs to fire VJ ASAP. The offense is looking much better than last year but the D is much much worse, and it's not just today - Miami game magnified the weak spots. This d is terribly managed with awful schemes and no adjustments.

That said, the buck stops at head coach. Payton has to make a move. Firing VJ had to happen. Now.

Best insight of any post in this thread today. The defense was supposed to be the strength of this team. The offense is without a doubt better. With the draft picks they’ve given up the past 2 years, I didn’t think they’d be much better than they are. Should have won last week without a doubt.

Never seen a defense go from so studly to complete wet paper in one offseason. They let two bad teams in the Raiders and Commanders beat them and then just got national embarrassed this weekend. Heads should be rolling.

He's giving Hacket a run for the money at this point....sometimes it's better to shut up and let the results do the talking.
That comparison is taking it a bit too far, but Belichick might be a more appropriate comparison and not for anything good. Not that Bill seems to have been humbled post Brady, but Payton is finding out what life is like in a real division without Drew Brees just like Bill found when TB left town. Easy guy to root against at this point. Being an authoritarian **** only works if you're winning.

It's a popular GOTCHA item right now - but people cannot be seriously comparing Payton and Hackett.
Payton is certainly a better coach but Hackett didn't get 70 dropped on him either. anyway you cut it it's been a tough time to be a Bronco fan. Wilson was supposed to come in and turn the ship around, then it was Payton, now what?

Caleb Williams?

Right? Hackett was 2-1 with a win over San Francisco after 3 games last year. Not fair to him to compare him to this dumpster fire of a coach.

Well they have a rich owner, I'm told. Very rich. Unlike all the other just sort of rich owners. :lmao:

Offense looks good, and the Bears are a solid team to 'get right' against. They can't exploit the weaknesses in the defense like Miami can.

Better days ahead.

Are the Bears good enough to exploit the defense as well as Washington did?

Considering the Bears are one of the best rushing EPA teams in the league...yes. However, one of the worst coached teams in the league, so yeah.

Maybe a few long runs are busted by the Bears. Honestly could be a win for them as well lol

always thought of Payton as a punk of a HC. always aware of the camera location while he's roaming the sidelines, the smug arrogance he operates with. glad to see him get his *** handed to him!! I only hope it continues and he loses 56-12 every week from now on.
dude should never have left the broadcast booth. I imagine he steps down mid season or years end, ala Urban Meyer. I think Peyton has lost the team. I think he lost the team the day he ridiculed the previous regime. boy was he mad on the post game presser huh? hey Payton you can't stand the heat get the F outta the kitchen . you sucked, broncos sucked, and we have 14 more games of this comedy show!!!

This. Maybe another comp is Urban Meyer. A winner in college, but when the dynamic completely changes and he has to coach grown a** men and Purdue isn’t on the schedule anymore, he becomes nothing more than a tinhorn dictator

Broncos did something you want to see from a team that has a chance to turn around... They hit rock bottom - outscored 98-7 over 1.5 games - then came roaring back to score 24 straight and go 1-1 in those two games. They aren't out of the woods, but are showing glimpses of not being a total dumpster fire, especially on offense. And now the Nate Hackett rivarly game is queued up perfectly as a huge fork in their 2023 road.

Agreed. This week vs. Jets will prove whether 2H Bears was a fluke or beginning of turnaround.

Job #1 was "fixing" Russell Wilson and he is currently T3 in QB rating and T2 in TD passes. So that appears to be tracking.

Special teams has been a dumpster fire last few years but huge turnaround there (Mims leading in both KR and PR avg).

Obviously defense has been horrid. But key players coming back this week including Justin Simmons, Purcell, Frank Clark, plus a few others off IR (e.g. Browning)

Regardless, Sean Payton is obviously much more in command of all the coaching details than any predecessor in last 7-8 years.
