Do you hoodie wearers routinely use the hood? It amuses me to think of this demographic rolling around their hoodies. :lmao:
Most of the time - no. But I'm bald and my head gets cold so I'll pull it on if I'm out and about without other headwear or if I need additional warmth besides my knitted hat I usually have with me - conveniently stored in the front pocket when it exists.

When in the cold, I have a cashmere beanie with me. While not bald, I am a number 1 buzz all around.

It's all about how it fits for me. I'm very specific on how clothing fits. At 50, I have a nice body and I need everyone to know that when I wear things. Ha ha

Can you elaborate? Not on the body but how or why you need everyone to know?
Ha ha. Well. I'm not necessarily that guy that wears tiny shirts, but I like shirts that fit my arms and chest. Also, not really so much that I want to show people, that was more of a inside joke my wife and I share. She loves to make comments that I dress like a really strong ninja. Ha ha. Im not the guy to wear these oversized hoodies that I could fit two people in. I just like my clothes to fit my body type.

Why wouldn't he? When I got motivated enough to train for a marathon a couple years ago, I started wearing a lot more form fitting attire. Now that I've gotten lazy again and added back on some of the weight, I'm more than content to hide that fact. I am starting to run again, however, so if I get back anywhere close to where I was a couple years ago, you better believe I'll be wanting to show it off!

Same. I’m certainly not wearing skin tight shirts. But I work hard to not be a fatty. And am proud of it.

My wife knits. This time a year I generally am wearing some nice homemade wool socks and have one of several homemade knitted hats with me. I prefer the hats she knits from sock yarn. It's a little lighter but on particularly cold and/or windy days, the hoodie adds the extra warmth that is needed.

Thinking on it, the only hoodie I one is a white no pocket champion bad boy. I’ve left it in my ski clothes bag out of nostalgia. When it was really cold, sub 15, I’d add it as a layer, AND use the hood!(pre helmets). But haven’t used it in 25-30 years. I should throw it out.

I will if/when it gets cold enough. But, under normal circumstances, no.

I should note that I enjoy all forms of hoodies, pullover, cardigans, fleece tops, etc.

I think the oldest article of clothing I own is the first sweatshirt I ever bought when I went to college. It's the most raggedy piece of crap you could imagine - lots of paint stains, the cuffs are tattered. My wife hates it and tries to get me to throw it out every time I drag it out and put it on but I refuse. It mostly only makes an appearance when doing some kind of work around the house this time of year.

Another follow up question, are you hoodie, hood up!, wearers in cold parts of the country? I know furls is. He may also use the use to hide from his wonderful wife. ;)
I mostly wear hoodies and I typically don't put the hood up (unless it's windy/cold and I need it). I live on the central coast of CA where it is between 65-75 about 340 days a year.

I might be in the minority, but I haven't owned a hoodie since high school graduation. Ha ha

They sure have evolved since the 80s where your only choices were Champion or Hanes. You can find all types even cashmere, some costing thousands of dollars. Definitely a staple in most wardrobes.
Plus they're just comfortable.

Yep. I think a lot of folks in here are equating hoodies to those in the 80/90s that were made primarily for working out or lounging. Much like jeans or sneakers, they have gone from casual to acceptable in more formal occasions as fashion designers have stepped in and elevated the offerings. Love my NOAH hoodies for a little more dressed up relaxed look: https://noahny.com/products/classic-hoodie-2

That's the idea

I will occasionally wear a hoodie with the hood up if the rain is heavier than the everyday PNW rain.

Also, most hoodies I own were given to me and advertise either a bar or some type of construction related company. The only ones I've ever bought were out of necessity where I'm out on a boat and forgot to take a jacket or sweatshirt with me. I think I have three different ones from a local marina/microbrewery.

Scorching hot take. If there's two pockets a with a zipper in-between that's not a hoodie, it's a jacket or whatever. And if there isn't zipper, but separate pockets....? GTFO 🤷‍♂️
I have another technical question. Does a long sleeve shirt with a hood count as a hoodie? How thick does the material need to be for it to be a hoodie?

Yeah - I’m sure I’m wrong but I always referred to a sweatshirt with a hood as a sweatshirt and a zip up jacket with a hood as a jacket. To me a hoodie is thinner t-shirt or similar material with a hood.

Well it's been below 40 here for a month so yes. But I did grow up in a very diverse small town so I still bank on that cred ;)

I refuse to use the term hoodie. It's a hooded sweatshirt. I use to like them without zippers years ago, but only like them with the zipper now. As for the question, for a hooded sweatshirt without a zipper I would think pouch is best.

I mostly wear hoodies when out walking in the woods with my dog. I tend to have a lot of "things" on my person during these walks (keys, phone, poop bags, remote beeper for collar, glasses, gloves if they come off my, sometime my one-hitter/lighter, etc.). I purposely wear the ones with two pockets so I can better organize my stuff and not have to fish around in a single massive pocket to locate something. In a single pocket they all gather in the middle in a massive blob. Also prefer two pockets for golf.

Just picked up a couple more hoodies the other day. Didn’t have the choice of pockets but if did definitely would have gone with the hand warmer pockets (which all my hoodies have).

During late fall through early spring I wear one of these probably 5 days a week. It’s my general work attire and lounging around the house and going out choice.

wearing a zip-up hoodie right now

great for layering in winter weather. i can unzip when getting a little too warm and/or easily shed if things come to that point. also wear the hoodie up as a wind shield when necessary.
That’s not a hoodie. It’s a jacket

That may be a sun shirt. I have many of them. Great for hiking and climbing in variable temps/sun exposure.

I also own a wool hoodie, but haven't worn it in years.
