Hurricane Sandy (1 Viewer)

Local schools and municipalities completely jumped the gun by canceling school, moving trick-or-treat, closing liquor stores, etc. By tomorrow night, it might not even be raining, yet our trick-or-treating has been moved to Saturday night.Yes, we had some damage, and there has been some localized flooding, but there was no reason to make those decisions on Monday.
If only one child was saved from having a piece of his costume blow away, it was worth it.

so?tick or treat being moved is pretty inconsequential, people who had damage might think that a few days to get straight is a nice thingi am sure the great pumpkin will still find everyone

All schools were cancelled here last night...and then nothing happened. Looks like we dodged a bullet. I left for work around 8:20 this morning and the sun was shining with virtually no wind. It has begun to rain again here, but holy overreaction, Batman.GL to all of those more directly affected by the storm on the coast.

a little birdie told me CYP is doing well and never lost power

no sign of the tarp yet, they are still hopeful it finds its way home

Governor of PA Tom Corbett just did what Fox News would have preferred Christie to do. Something along the lines of, "Yes President called us but Governor Romney also called us and wanted to know what was going on and make sure everything was fine..." Seems to ring hollow, what is Romney going to do? Donate some of his millions to us?

I dont really care one way or the other, I just think that our region tends to completely over react on stuff like this. They do it when snow is predicted too. Rather than wait and see if the weather actually lives up to the forecast, they assume that it will be that bad or worse and change/cancel everything unnecessarily.Just seems dumb to me.

it's better for people if they can plan ahead. Plus had there been some major issues they would not have to field calls from idiots asking "what about tricks or treats???"

Yeah, I know it didn't hit some as hard as predicted but I'd say the officials did a wonderful job. The overreact for a reason because under reacting has the potential to cause harm. Nobody knows which region will get hit the hardest, whose trees will be able to stay in the ground, which part of the infrastructure will fail. So they play it safe and perhaps inconvenience a few for a little but keep everyone safe. Besides, I'm sure in many areas that weren't hit as hard, they still have to do cleanup which is hampered by everyone on the road, etc.

This has to be schtick.

Reggie Thomas, a maintenance supervisor at a prison near the overflowing Hudson River, emerged from an overnight shift there, a toothbrush in his front pocket, to find his Honda with its windows down and a foot of water inside. The windows automatically go down when the car is submerged to free drivers.

The neighbor will get a new one for free. Isn't that what TARP funds are for?

JCP&L doing a really lousy job providing info so far.

I'm certainly not expecting them to know exactly when we're going to get power back, but the lack of info is disturbing.

Hell, pse&g (who provides my gas) is sending out emails every 4 hours and constantly tweeting updates.

Am I down for 2 days or 10? A heads up would really be nice.

How are you down power and still on the computer? Just curios.

And if they don't know how long it's going to be you'd like them to lie to you?

of course not. It's frustrating seeing how one company is being so proactive in communication while another is just leaving us flapping in the wind. Even a very generic update (that they're in the process of restoring power to local hospitals, for example) would be nice

when mine was out after last years storm the only way I knew we were close to getting power back was when the truck showed up.

I live in a condo complex and all of our lines are underground. The issue here isn't a locally damaged line, it's a damaged station further up the chain. So at least we've got that going for us
